Snider was certainly capable of scoring more points than they did, but Dwenger did look a little better than what I was expecting them to. Maybe because they get jacked up for this rivalry. But I am interested in see how the Saints match up with the likes of Leo, Columbia City, and East Noble...........arguably the most interesting sectional in the state. Because of the target on Snider's back, I'm starting to accept ugly wins versus Dwenger, Homestead, North Side, and Carroll.
-
I wanna say that North Side jumped out to a 7-0 lead against LN. Going off memory here, I'm pretty sure, not positive. I think you'd find that Noblesville and Fishers are pretty strong when not faced with the constant grind of Central Indiana.

Roncalli vs. Cathedral at Butler Bowl
BTF replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Yes, I asked FootballKing a question and you felt the need to "interject." I asked him because I respect his opinion on the matter. This was never supposed to be a "beat up" session on the Irish, a program I happen to respect. Simply wondering why they are playing at a higher level now then they were a couple of decades ago. When I don't know, I ask. But thank you for proving my point that Dwenger and Cathedral weren't much different in the 80's and 90's. You always stalk my posts and make snide remarks when I mention something good about Fort Wayne. Just seems to be a trend is all. But hey, I'm all in. The entertainment you provide me when you attack is priceless. -
Roncalli vs. Cathedral at Butler Bowl
BTF replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
The games look pretty competitive to me prior to 2010, not so much after that. Thanks for proving my point. Why do your feelings get massively crushed every time I mention anything good about Fort Wayne. What kind of trauma do you have that's associated with this city? I suppose you also think Cathedral would have beaten Dwenger in 83, 90, and 91, lol . The Saints would have been competitive with Cathedreal in 15, 18, and 19...............which does actually contradict my point. Still wondering though, why the hatred for the Summit City? Is it their 22 state championships? Is it the massive number of athletes they produce for the size of the city? Where is this jealousy coming from? Relax, take your time. -

Strength of schedule matters too, does it not? Hard for me to argue your point on Ben Davis. But I'm not betting on them beating Chatard, HSE, or Carroll. They'd be a flip of the coin against Snider or Merrillville. Yes, Merrillville. I do like their chances against most of the other teams though. If you want to know why I still have decent regard for Snider, it's because I still think they have one of the best defenses in the state. It could keep them in most games outside of your Top 7.

So if your life depended on it, you bet on New Pal beating HSE? If my life were on the line, I'm taking the Royals.

Roncalli vs. Cathedral at Butler Bowl
BTF replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Every game since 20 years ago has been a blowout, can you blame them? You have to admit, for whatever reason, Cathedral is playing at a much higher level now than they were 20-30 years ago despite no change in enrollment. They were no better than Dwenger back then, now they're rumbling with the state's best. What changed? -
Agree, that was a blowout. Poll looks good, I still think New Pal is too high. They haven't beaten anyone to garner Top 10 credibility. Sorry. The Sagarin guys are will disagree with me, but look no further than where he has East Noble ranked. For the love of God, I hope you're not using Sagarin as a source.
-
Look, I'm a realist. I'm not going to pretend to know Indianapolis like you guys down there. All I have to go by is numbers. I also looked pretty foolish in predicting a Roncalli upset, so maybe all my credibility goes out the window. But................give a team like Cathedral two weeks to prepare, and that could be all she wrote for Lawrence North. Not saying it will happen, but it could. Underestimate the Irish and you're done. I think LN is hungry, so they won't be underestimating anyone. They just have the misfortune of facing Cathedral when the Irish have two weeks (potentially) to prepare. If I'm Cathedral, I'm BEGGING to draw LN in the first round. For the same reason I'm begging for Snider to draw Carroll in the first round. Good coaching staffs are difficult to beat with two weeks on the table.
-
I really think four, with Cathedral, WC and Center Grove on the outside looking in.
-
Hey, they're good, I get it. I saw their offense first hand. But Westfield, Brownburg, and Crown Point are well run programs. Hell, give Cathedral's staff two weeks to prepare, and they could upend LN.
-
No need to be sorry, Snider's not great this season. Warsaw isn't even on the radar of being great. Snider will be a non factor up north unless they revisit the offense they ran against Homestead. And even if they do that, they're still just a Top 10 team instead of Top 15. The state champion is going to come from one of four teams this year. That's just the way it is.
-
Can we honestly say that? Let's not pretend that Brownsburg and Westfield aren't REALLY good. And Crown Point gets better every year. Hard to count them out completely right now. I still think it's a crapshoot between three, maybe four teams. There's something missing at Warren Central. I don't know enough about the inner workings in their program, but something just seems off. Maybe it's just lack of playmakers on offense.
-
Not counting them out completely, I just have my Top 5 at this point, and WC sits at #6. I really think the state champion is going to come from the Top 3 right now.

Roncalli vs. Cathedral at Butler Bowl
BTF replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
You have to go back two decades to really find any competitive games between these two. I doubt Roncalli ever had any intention of extending this series beyond a home and home. It's a big rivalry game because they meet in the playoffs sometimes? Help me out here. I'm far away and don't know any better. -
I guess I spoke too soon. Good teams find a way to win.
-
I certainly get your point, but I'm going to remain stubborn. This is looking like a three horse race, which might be unfair to Crown Point. Cathedral might have something to say, I just have a hard time overlooking their loss to Brownsburg by three scores. Which begs the question: Is LN rolling CG more impressive than Brownsburg rolling Cathedral?
-
Wait, certainly DC didn't win that game.
-
I'll keep them at #3. Good debate though.

Ya think?

Leo vs Columbia City-End of Game Officiating??
BTF replied to Bullhorn99's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
It's my understanding that when blocked and recovered BEHIND the line of scrimmage, the offensive team can advance the ball. It should have been a touchdown for Columbia City. It's a shame for Leo, all they had to do was recover the ball after it was blocked, but the team started celebrating instead. -
Dwenger at Snider - Dwenger doesn't match up well in this one. It's a rivalry game, so all bets are off. I'm going to call the goose egg though. Snider 31-0 Luers at South - South will struggle to score against Luers defense. Luers will find a way to score enough to win like they've done in most of their games. Knights 17-7 North at Wayne - Tough game to call here. North's best win came against a 2-5 Northridge team, where Wayne's best game came in a one point defeat to Carroll in a rain Storm. Gimmie the Generals 21-14 Northrop at Carroll - Northrop will score. Carroll will score at will. Chargers 56-14 Homestead at Concordia - There's just not much optimism right now with Concordia. It feels like their best weeks were at the beginning of the season. Should be an easy one for the Spartans. 35-14
-
14 to be exact. Carroll should be #10.
-
I really don't know much about Hart other than he's been around awhile. What's his age and will he even be around long enough to reach a Center Grove type level?
