2A: Andrean vs Mater Dei

Dawson Wunderlich and Mason Wunderlich are two completely different kids. Not sure what you are talking about. 😀 -
2A: Andrean vs Mater Dei
oldtimeqb replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I forgot Mater Dei led the game 9-7 with 11 minutes to go last year. I think the Wildcats are better offensively this year, but they will need to convert red zone chances with TD's instead of FG's. -
2A: Andrean vs Mater Dei

Western Boone 2018-2020 has entered the chat. (To clarify) I have no issues with this. But if it were Bishop Western or St. Boone, they would be talked about completely different. -
Should Sectionals be Gerrymanderd?
oldtimeqb replied to BendNotBreak's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
A. Your post implies that sectionals have not been gerrymandered in the past. B. The success factor is flawed. Adding a second flaw would not improve the situation. -
3A: Bishop Chatard vs Lawrenceburg
oldtimeqb replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I echo @Lysander’s comments. I have some thoughts I would like to add, but that is unfair to Lawrenceburg and Coach Knigga, as well as BC and Coach Doyle, who have earned the right for this matchup to occur. That said, this game is the one I am most curious to see. 6A is just a foreign concept to us south of I-64, and I have followed much of the 2A, 4A, and 5A tournament as a fan of SIAC football. Not many of the 3A south ‘big games’ have been streamed, so this Saturday will be the first time I will get to see what 3A has to offer this year. -
Scores: Semi-State Week

Bermuda grass. Great for a grass football field. At least until the first freeze of the year. Then it turns brown. -

East Central blinked first. 3rd and 5, EC goes empty set and strip sack is the turnover. Roncalli driving tie game with 1 min left -
Running clock at the semi state? The answer is yes I think.

All MD thus far. 17-0 Wildcats. -
Interesting idea. And now that most other sports have 4 classes it's not out of line. For reference, that would be a cutoff of Tri West (#160) for the 2A/3A split. https://legacy.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick resources/Enrollments & Classifications/2022-23 2023-24/2022-23 2023-24 Football Alignment.pdf And from a quick glance, Cathedral and Memorial are currently playing above their class in that scenario as well.

State Finals Dates and Times by Class

What the IHSAA said they were going to do, and what they have actually done are not the same, IMO. -
Roncalli vs. East Central Rematch
oldtimeqb replied to 1 Trojan Place's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
This seems to sell Brotherton (15 carries for 96 yards) a bit short. Not sure who would be the ‘best RB’ on the field, but I would say EC has the most dynamic running game with their two backs. Like all November games this one will come down to protecting the football and playing defense. Whichever team does that better will win and have a favorable matchup at LOS. -
I can picture it now. Haubstadt Sommerfest 2035, @Titan32 and @Screagle trying to round up the 2021 Titans and Tigers to play the big game that never happened. I can’t wait to see Brady Allen in those white cleats!

Related - I feel like the NFL has given up trying to make sure the inside/slot receiver isn't covered up by the wideout. I watch games and there is no way one of them is off and one is on. I can't be the only one watching games on Sunday and think "No way is that guy eligible to go downfield."

It would make sense to think of it that way. 22 1st team and 22 2nd team = 44. So 42/47 wouldn't be all that out of line. I'm more suspicious of a team like Forest Park (0 Conference wins) getting 8 players named or Tell City (2 conference wins) getting 7. I heard a rumor that Southridge was moving to "Big" division next year with the addition of Tecumseh. Has that been confirmed?

Simple answer: Tradition. It is sponsored by the Evansville Downtown Quarterback Club and has been for 83 years. Any group is free to name whatever team they would like. Some large metro areas have all-city and all-county teams. Is there an All-County team named by the Clarion? There is one for Cross Country. https://www.pdclarion.com/sports/state-finalists-headline-2022-all-county-xc-teams/article_5202e882-9677-58b7-a660-2ec6b76e0d39.html

For a little bit there was a City vs Area all star game. A few years it was sponsored by Hardee's (or more likely the local franchise owner) and played at the University of Evansville. Once UE dropped football, the game lost its luster - playing on a college field - plus I think the City was something like 13-2 against the area.

Mater Dei (2A) enrollment 496 Memorial (4A) enrollment 556 Memorial’s seniors played all four years of HS football in 4A.

4A East Central at Memorial
oldtimeqb replied to TigerFan20's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Yes and No. As far as SOS and only 1 win against top 64, the answer is yes. EM's overall lower Sagarin rating is due to losing weeks 1 & 2 against teams that are lower rated. Here is what it looks like on CalPreps. It doesn't matter at this point, but I would be curious what the rating would look like if the results in red were different. -
Cinderella is a myth
oldtimeqb replied to Footballking16's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Close. For a school with ONE winning season in its 49 year history, a qualification format would be a once-in-two-generation pipe dream. Prior to this year, they had a collective 1-37 tournament record. http://www.almanacsports.com/football/team.php?team=PIKEC -
Cinderella is a myth
oldtimeqb replied to Footballking16's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Perhaps the thread title should be ‘David is a myth.’ Because I agree that the David’s of the world (bottom 32) rarely if ever beat the Goliaths. Cinderella still attended the ball and had a blast, but the clock eventually struck midnight. So IMO absolutely a school like Pike Central is a Cinderella story… even if the clock runs out and their season is done. They don’t have to be David on Friday night vs Owen Valley -
Gibson Southern (10-0) at Owen Valley (10-0)
oldtimeqb replied to Titan32's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Great story. Until this week I didn’t realize OV was the only high school in Owen County. OV and their opponent next week, Pike Central, are disproving my theory of single HS county schools don’t have postseason success. (Albeit, Pike Central’s success this year is for a completely different reason than OV) I assume Owen Valley is a consolidation of smaller HS, maybe Spencer and Freedom had separate schools 50 years ago?
