Turf 2020 and Beyond
oldtimeqb replied to btownqbcoach's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I have heard Castle and Boonville both for 2024. At least that was the online chatter around the time they scrimmaged a few weeks ago. Unsure about Tecumseh. -
Has anyone seen a promo or schedule for the SIAC coaches preview show with Dan Egierski? That has been a highlight of July the past few years and I hope it continues

IHSAA Tweaks Success Factor
oldtimeqb replied to tango's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Under the current system school year 2023-24 is the end of a two year cycle. The press release states it will start annual counts 2024-25. So my assumption (and you know grandma said about assumptions) is for football this fall (2023) teams like MD and East Central have 4 points from 2022 to be added to their fall 2023 results. If they have 6, they move up for 2024 & 2025. Any points earned in fall 2023 will be added with points earned in 2024 to measure against the 6 for ‘bump up’ purposes. The fall 2022 & 2023 point count will go on as planned but the first ‘rolling’ count will be fall 2023 & 24 (school year 2024-25) as stated in the press release. This is my interpretation anyway -
The next Jasper roster available online will be the first I have seen. You need to have national security level clearance to get stats on the Wildcats too.

Two short answers: closed conferences and logistics. The SAC and SIAC have no games against outside opponents. There might be more conferences that I am unaware of that also fall in this category. Last fall had 6-3 Jasper, Ev Memorial, and Boonville. Jasper beat EM in week 1, but BV had no opponent that played an SIAC school. So coaches would have to go off a ‘hunch.’ Honest question. When do the wrestling seeding meetings take place? Football plays week 9 Friday night. When would seeds and pairings be determined? I don’t know a football coach that would want to wait until Sunday. Even Saturday afternoon or evening would be late for game prep for many of them

The entire study is available on Google Scholar if anyone wants to read the whole thing. From the article: “Based on the results, it appears a reasonable policy innovation would be to increase the TSF point value from 6 to 7 that is needed to trigger the move up in classification, or use a historical metric that includes TSF points over prior cycles. These changes would eliminate most of the isolated cases of success and target the most successful programs that should be competing at a higher classification, which meets the spirit of TSF.” I would agree with 7 points & more than two years would improve the process.

Thanks for the info. I was just wondering. There is about a 5-10 year blur when my SW Indiana trivia knowledge went out the window. I went to college and when I came back Tecumseh and Wood had left the PAC, Gibson Southern and Tell City joined the PAC and Mt Carmel was playing in the Big 8.

Was Perry Central a former Southwest 7 member? Back when Linton was Class A and Wood Memorial had a team? They always seemed to come west back then and now the PLAC sends them more SE Indiana.

Twitter? Surely you can find a better source than that. 😂

Good to see HH investing in the S&C program which benefits all students. I wish more schools could do the same. I thought HH already had a S&C coach. Coach Mundy? I think? Where did he go?

My comment was mildly facetious, but I will respond with earnestness. We will probably never completely agree on the topic, and that is fine with me. I respect your opinion and understand your viewpoint. My contention is that I do not find the term "Indian" offensive. I say that acknowledging I am neither the perpetrator (Catholic) nor aggrieved party (Native American) in this scenario. If someone wants to change names, focus on things like Angel Mounds. Can you name the group or tribe who inhabited the area and built the mounds? I had to wikipedia it myself, and I have been there numerous times. The name Angel comes from the family who owned the property in the 1800's. That seems like a more noble cause for a name change. I can't tell you off-hand the name of the Mississippi Indians and how they inhabited Angel Mounds (to save people from googling) but I could tell you there once was a chief named Tecumseh and the Kickapoo Indians once inhabited Indiana. I may never heard those names or had a curiosity sparked, if the people of Lynnville or Owensville had changed them. Indian names and imagery are completely imbedded in the language of this state, Indiana. Mississinewa, Wapahani, Maconaquah. The merging of cultures and histories, warts and all, is something I would rather see embraced than erased. I will end with another facetious comment. According to Ludacris and Missy Elliot, "Minuteman" is as about a derogatory term as a someone could be called. Hey-ooo.

Thank you!! I thought my memory was playing tricks on me. I looked but couldn’t find the details

I *think* something like this happened before, but I will have to see if I can internet sleuth it later today for confirmation. Vincennes Lincoln in its 4A power hey day (2000-06 era) sent its JV to play a smaller school in Illinois - Edwards County? Robinson? Oblong? on a Friday night, the same weekend their varsity played a conference game.

Agree with this re: the HS teams depend on the youth system. Here's to all the youth coaches who worry about teaching first and having fun first. And not the youth coaches whose first priority is Jimmy Jr. playing QB and Johnny Jr. being RB.

Why would you say interesting? Not sure a candidate from out of the area like Coultis or Burgess would be interested after the recent decline. First step for a new coach at Central is to keep your players from being poached by other schools. I would think he could help in that area.
