  1. The Cascade - Lawrenceburg game is like Fight Club. I guess we don’t talk about it. Last Friday it was one of the few games not streamed. I couldn’t find a streaming radio link or even a reporter live Tweeting it. Even postgame coverage not much to find. Just crazy all around.
  2. If the entire state was on Central time (like it should be) - then a 2.5 hour drive on a Friday wouldn't be an issue. But losing the hour is a HUGE deal for students, fans, and parents that want to drive. That said - Saturday night game is a BIG deal for GS. You basically have given a great coaching staff two extra practices - Friday afternoon and Saturday morning before they get on the bus. If I were Cascade, I would have asked for a 12 noon CST kickoff on Saturday.
  3. I have pointed this out before. Both HH and GS potentially have to make 2.5 hour trips in successive weekends should they win Semi State. Gibson had to do it in 2021 and Memorial in 2017 as well. But if we’re adding rules, no team should get to host 4 of 5 tournament games at home. That would be my first change.
  4. HH had an easier road through sectional than GS. Not to open up a ‘pound for pound’ discussion, but I would argue Sectional 32 has been deeper than 24 the last few years. A 3A school has won 5 out of 6 tries. Memorial - 2019, 21, 22, & 23 Reitz - 2024 (no 3A team in sectional) Heritage Hills - 2025
  5. I don’t have much to add to the conversation. But I wanted to say North Daviess has a wonderful looking facility. I see it from I-69 and occasionally cut through to 57 for work. Not sure if anyone from there reads the board, just wanted to say it’s noticeable how well they take care of it.
  6. Marian (adj.) - of, or related to Mary. I would have to double-check, but I think she's pretty important, right?
  7. Chances for a Public school sweep tonight in 3A? Marian at Knox Luers at Mississinewa Guerin at Cascade Gibson Southern at Mater Dei
  8. I feel like the wording of this rule has changed in the last few years. The rule is no more than 4 in the backfield, correct? A team only has 10 on the field, with 6 on the line and 4 in the backfield. Legal. A team has 11 on the field. Only one team wideout is on the line, so 5 are in the backfield. Illegal formation. Is my understanding correct?
  9. Even more odd - Reitz was 5A when it was the largest class. So they have played Ben Davis, Center Grove, and Avon but never the Patriots. I remember watching Avon at the Reitz Bowl.
  10. They tried the bye during week 14 (SS for 1A-5A) in 2013-15. I guess they didn’t like it? Don’t know why it changed.
  11. It’s having 32 6A teams (5 weeks) vs 64 for other classes (6 weeks). Everyone gets to finish on Thanksgiving weekend. IIRC - First year of 6A, they started week 10 but then the state finalists had two weeks to prepare for final. (Bye semi-state weekend.) That was scrapped the following year.
  12. Videos on Facebook/ X have been circulating about the ending to this one. Alexandria attempted to kill the clock on 4th down, but QB threw it away with 4 seconds remaining. Eastbrook attempts the Cal-Stanford Band play and scores. But there is a hold on Eastbrook. Following the penalty the ball is marked ready for play with one untimed down. Hail Mary - TD. 2pt conversion good and EB wins in OT. Two questions 1. Can a game end on an offensive penalty? This caused the most confusion with the announcers I saw. Does the fact EB scored - and penalty had to be accepted - change things? 2. In hindsight, IF Alexandria’s QB runs around an extra 4 seconds but one of their OL holds or there is intentional grounding. Does that end the game?
  13. I agree it would be horribly inconsistent and tough to monitor. What would be easy to enforce would be breaking the huddle with 12. That should absolutely be a rule in HS.
  14. First criteria is non-host for the sectional or regional. This year the IHSAA has designated "Odd" sectional numbers as the regional tie-breaker. Then Semi-State, the lower number has tie breaker. Since Chatard is Sectional 22 and HH is 24, that means Chatard would lose a tie breaker to Yorktown (21 winner) but hold the tie-break against HH. Which is fitting, because @hhpatriot04 can tell you, the IHSAA always makes the Patriots play Chatard in Indy. They never play in Lincoln City.
  15. Thanks. And I wasn't being critical of Cascade, just curious how a conference game - and I think a relatively new conference? Would have such a mismatch between teams.
  16. Just bumping this to the top after seeing last Friday's score. Cascade beats Greencastle in a close one: 98-13. I'm not Muda or DT, but how in a running clock era can the final score be that lopsided?
  17. Evansville could benefit by consolidating 5 schools into 4. They would end up with two 5A’s and two large 4A’s.
  18. My mistake. I was thinking the Bloomington Schools were paired with Castle/North. BHSS looks to be a tough regional opponent for the winner of 16. I like the SIAC chances for 5A better against Floyd/NA.
  19. https://sports.wabash.edu/sports/2021/10/28/wabash-college-video-network.aspx?B=2829500 Didn’t think about the livestream but here it is. Announced as an illegal crack back block. https://sports.wabash.edu/sports/2021/10/28/wabash-college-video-network.aspx?B=2829500 1 hr 32 minutes into the stream. 1:29 left 2nd quarter. Crew huddle for quite a bit given the unusual nature but sounds like they got it right.
  20. Perhaps a brain teaser for you and @Bobref of a play I saw Saturday during a D3 football game. (If NFHS and NCAA rules differ, please feel free to correct me.) During a punt, the receiving team was called for an illegal block. It was a high kick, so the flag was thrown while the ball was still in the air. The punt returner muffed the kick and a kicking team member fell on the ball. This is where I was confused. The kicking team member was not happy with the illegal block and cheap-shotted an opponent. Clearly dead-ball post play foul. Enforcement - I think because microphone system cut out - was kicking teams ball 1st and 10, 15 yards back from the punt recovery spot. I think it was live-ball foul on R, muffed kick, dead-ball foul on K. But only deadball foul on K was enforced. Thanks for any clarification.
  21. The eyeball test tells me the conference is down a little this year. I don’t think it’s as bad as 2013, but no way of knowing until sectional finals week. Hopefully by then enough connections will be made to calibrate the rankings. It a possibility that no SIAC teams advance to regionals - which I think last happened in 2013.
  22. A couple things I am wondering. 1. What to make of last week's Southridge/ Mt Vernon game? Were the rumors of SR's demise a bit premature? Is MtV's schedule front loaded with winnable games (excluding GS) and now they face tougher opponents like HH? 2. Does PC have a shot to break the 0-fer against SS? Or do the Rebels get their 2nd win of the year? 3. Boonville - Princeton is intriguing. Based on week 8 & 9 opponent records, this may pose the best chance a win for the remainder of the year for both.
  23. I'm not a smart man, but how are team passing yards per game and team receiving yards per game different?
  24. Fair enough. Counterpoint - coaches and non-participants are not allowed on the field of play or the white of the sideline - yet there are sideline warning penalties if they occur. My question was ‘what if.’
  25. What's the ruling if a punt hits a drone mid-flight? I guess it could be a pass or kick off as well.
