24-25 DOE Enrollments
oldtimeqb replied to HoopsCoach's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I can't comment on your insinuation. But it did spark a curiosity for me. Looking at 2017 numbers, FWCS was by far the largest pool of voucher recipients. FWCS - 4,711 Indianapolis PS - 3,584 South Bend - 2,630 Evansville-Vanderburgh - 1,569 East Allen Schools - 1.011 I get the MSD Township schools of Marion County are in the 500 - 900 range, but what is it about FWCS that made them so voucher-heavy in 2017? -
Open Coaching Positions

You also cannot take an existing teacher in the building and throw them into the position with minimal background. Might work with individual/team sports like XC, track, tennis, golf, etc. Never would work for football. I've seen schools try this. Bad move. -
24-25 DOE Enrollments

For what it is worth, Providence named a new principal at the start of 2022 and he took over July 1, 2022. Crazy thing is I didn’t know that until a google search 2 minutes ago. But looking at enrollment numbers I guessed that might have happened. If a p/p school has - shall I say - less than desirable leadership, enrollment can quickly suffer. -
I think there is one SW Indiana school who would be interested in joining the SIAC. From the rumors I have heard, there were two other SW Indiana schools who don't want any part of it. I think the other drawback is there are two or three current EVSC schools who have little to no fan support for football.

That is what most were expecting to happen. I had even heard him referred to as the Coach in Waiting. Now we just need to wait for the white smoke from St. Boniface.

Well this is gonna change. 14 news reporting Goebel has announced his retirement

Neighbors to the West, Unhappy

So about Illinois (see above) Their multiplier is pretty much what I would say is pretty inconsistent. No playoff wins in two years and the multiplier is waived. And classes aren’t set until the playoff qualifiers are selected. What it boils down to: 7/8 of their state championships were won by P/P schools. Public school fans weren’t happy. Indiana - success factor. 5/6 titles won by public schools… and public school fans still aren’t happy. As @foxbat said. There will still be complaints regardless of the system due to perceived advantages. -
This to me is the big question mark. I was not necessarily surprised by the change, but that breaks up a relatively stable group of "experienced" coaches in the SIAC. 1. Goebel - 28 years 2. Hurt - 19 years 3. Hurley - 17 years 4. Salters - 8 years 5. Paridaen - 7 years 6. Lewis - 6 years (now open) 7. Brunson - 5 years 8. Sutton - 5 years 9. Mullen - 4 years 10. Artis - 2 years I want to say it will be a wide open conference race next year. But I have thought the same the last few years and the winner has been 9-0 every year since 2020.

@Titan32 are you suggesting the conference could soon have two wildcats and two knights? Or I guess alternatively Alice could be putting on her western wear?

No kidding. But it’s all about the kids right? it’s just another example of the Indy-centric thinking by the IHSAA brass. They fail to realize that Indianapolis is a destination point. it’s not just mom and dad, but also grandparents, older siblings, aunts, and uncles, and so forth who are spending a holiday weekend together. They’ve all gathered to watch Johnny play in the state championship. They just want to give him a hug and congratulate him. They may not have the ability to drive back to Fort Wayne, Evansville , Crown Point, etc. it’s no big deal to go back to the high school to celebrate when it is barely past 465. But if it’s a 2+ hour drive away it’s a completely different story.

Live From The State Finals

You jinxed them Bob. Although I appreciate these refs admitting the inadvertent whistle unlike the officials of the Raiders - Chiefs game. -

Good to see the 7th official in the stands. He is having a good game. 😀 -
In the Bears’ clock fiasco Thanksgiving day, I wondered about a play during that drive. 4th and 4 the Bears ran a ‘pick play’ and Kmet interfered with the defender. Obvious call in my book. NFL enforcement was 10 yards and replay. Under NFHS rules, would the ball have turned over on downs to the Lions after the loss of down?

Would @Bobref have allowed that double shift punt alignment by Brownsburg? -
I’m happy for Coach McDonald and the turnaround he has done at Providence. Sadly their success will get overlooked with all the regular debates.

I’m trying to remember the last time all 12 teams were outside 465. Is Decatur Central the only Marion County school left?

Uniwatching the semi state round

So you're telling me 5A and 6A have multiple uniform combos, while 1A and 2A have guys playing both ways. They're really two different worlds. -
Things that can improve the tournament
oldtimeqb replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I second this idea. I would also add that I like the Illinois model of Saturday afternoon games (between 1pm - 7pm) unless BOTH schools agree to Friday night. So the Indy-centric sectionals could still play Friday night, but those games like Linton vs Brownstown or Providence vs. North Daviess don't require students to leave school mid-day. Not to mention fan travel, etc.
