Live From The State Finals

You jinxed them Bob. Although I appreciate these refs admitting the inadvertent whistle unlike the officials of the Raiders - Chiefs game. -
Live From The State Finals

Good to see the 7th official in the stands. He is having a good game. 😀 -
In the Bears’ clock fiasco Thanksgiving day, I wondered about a play during that drive. 4th and 4 the Bears ran a ‘pick play’ and Kmet interfered with the defender. Obvious call in my book. NFL enforcement was 10 yards and replay. Under NFHS rules, would the ball have turned over on downs to the Lions after the loss of down?

Would @Bobref have allowed that double shift punt alignment by Brownsburg? -
I’m happy for Coach McDonald and the turnaround he has done at Providence. Sadly their success will get overlooked with all the regular debates.

I’m trying to remember the last time all 12 teams were outside 465. Is Decatur Central the only Marion County school left?

Uniwatching the semi state round

So you're telling me 5A and 6A have multiple uniform combos, while 1A and 2A have guys playing both ways. They're really two different worlds. -
Things that can improve the tournament

I second this idea. I would also add that I like the Illinois model of Saturday afternoon games (between 1pm - 7pm) unless BOTH schools agree to Friday night. So the Indy-centric sectionals could still play Friday night, but those games like Linton vs Brownstown or Providence vs. North Daviess don't require students to leave school mid-day. Not to mention fan travel, etc. -
Fair enough. And I hope my post didn't come across as negative. Coach Lewis did a great job at Jasper. 20 games over .500 is quite a record for a 5 year span. I wish him the best of luck in whatever path he takes next.

Eh. That's always the company line. I'm pretty sure Oxley (Harrison), Schnur (Bosse), and Coultis (Central) all stepped down/ resigned from their coaching positions but were going to stay as a teacher. Then all 3 ended up at a different school in a coaching capacity by the next fall.

End of Danville-Brebeuf game
oldtimeqb replied to Tin Cup's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I think you were referencing my comment. I just went back and re-watched it. So forgive me for my use of amateur descriptions and not official terms. 1st and 10 40 seconds left pass complete to the right flat Brebeuf player steps out of bounds. Official does not give a windmill motion or stop the clock motion. Only raises a single hand. Clock stops. 2nd and 4. 36 seconds Ball is spotted on the right hash and the white hat gives the wind the clock motion. Clock begins ticking again. Should the clock have continued to run the entire time since forward progress was in the field of play? Or is the momentarily paused and restart the appropriate mechanic? -
End of Danville-Brebeuf game
oldtimeqb replied to Tin Cup's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Since we have some officials and some armchair officials in this thread, I have to ask about another play. Around 40 seconds left, right after Danville takes the lead 36-35, Brebeuf runs a quick out and the receiver steps out of bounds at :36. The ball is spotter and the white hat winds the clock. Brebeuf then calls a timeout with :29 seconds left, losing 7 seconds in the process. Can someone explain that to me? -
From the state of Wisconsin, which I admit I am not familiar with. Just saw this on social media. https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/high-school/2024/10/21/high-school-football-wiaa-facing-controversy-over-playoff-brackets/75777790007/ The short of it - The state organization (WIAA) selects playoff teams and seeds them according to a somewhat vague formula with tiebreakers. Or at least appears to maybe have not followed their own precedent. No worries though. The teams left out have put in an inquiry which will be answered by the WIAA - in December.

Sectional 32 - 2024

Allegedly I have also heard the submarine races are best viewed from atop Reitz Hill. -
There is discussion this morning about the genius of Oregon in that they sent out a 12th man on defense with 10 seconds left. Play happened - incomplete pass. Ruled illegal substitution. 5 yard penalty but now only 6 seconds left. The gamble that it wouldn’t be caught pre-snap paid off. But under NFHS rules, is that 15 yard illegal participation? How is this enforced under NFHS rules?

Thanks for the explanation. *Had the whistle not blown - Can K Team advance a blocked kick, provided the ball did not travel past the neutral zone? But a tipped FG kick that travels beyond the neutral zone is effectively a "punt" - where the ball is not live until a player from R touches it. (a la Leon Lett) Is that correct?

Sectional 32 - 2024
oldtimeqb replied to HereComesTheBoom's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
The other tired "should be" conversation. Has anyone checked out Sectional 31? Amazing difference in Sagarin. Sagarin 1-7: Sectional 32 teams 8-12: Sectional 31 Teams Bottom 3: Princeton, Edgewood, Owen Valley If we had a playoff where the Sectionals (or Districts) ranked #1 - 7 played against each other, all 7 games would be won by Sectional 32 Teams. And Princeton would have a slight edge over the bye. (Just kidding)
