  1. That would make too much sense. But anything to make EVSC AD’s lives easier. Plus now they can pay 1/2 hour less of Bud the janitor’s triple OT wages to clean up the locker rooms.
  2. Fair points, but I don't know that I could say the bold part is true of ALL schools. And a 'thud' 11 v 11 is a different animal than a live play, tackled to the ground. The maximum is 48 plays per athlete in the scrimmage, which amounts to about 1.5 quarters to a half of a game. Professional athletes in the NFL have pre-season games where they play less than a half, so I think HS athletes could use the same. I would rather see a jamboree style event with offense/defense and turnovers on downs.
  3. I would like to hear your reasoning for this. I don't like this idea, because I don't think 10 practices is enough to prepare a player for a full 48 minute game. At least one that "counts" in a W/L sense. There are 387 basketball shootouts and 127 baseball tournaments over the summer, so some teams really don't have a full roster until Practice day 1. Several Evansville schools give the last week of July off to hit the ground running on the first practice day. But I still saw plenty of football players take that week to play one last AAU tournament or baseball showcase. If the season were extended an additional game, it should come in October, not August.
  4. I can see why a fully seeded state tournament would be popular, especially amongst the Indy donut coaches. I agree 6A would be the perfect place to do it. It only works if there is some sort of geographic restrictions. Just looking at Illinois last year, their playoffs resulted in several St. Louis suburb schools (East St. Louis, Belleville, Collinsville) playing Chicago suburb schools - a 5 hour drive by car - for first round playoff games. East St Louis drove to Oak Lawn, IL to win 71-0. At least the win made the 10 hour round trip worth it, I guess. .
  5. The crazy thing is they redrew 2A south a few years ago, meaning EMD would potentially face Triton Central in the regional, if both teams advance. So after all the success the last 4 years, the MD Wildcats may never be bumped to to 3A.
  6. I wouldn’t be upset to be proven wrong. As they absolutely would be 4A once the rolling SF model takes effect.
  7. My guess tells me the 4A comment was made by a newscaster who misread the new rolling points factor. Starts next year. I would go with the IHSAA document that states their 5A until I hear otherwise.
  8. Honestly, that isn’t bad form. She should keep running her feet post contact, especially with the higher impact point. But the eye tracking and footwork to get into proper position are superb!
  9. Let’s not forget what is really important: making game day scheduling and operations easier for these ADs.
  10. Listened to a little bit of the Mater Dei preview show tonight. Sounds like Coach Goebel thinks this MD team might be the least experienced team in the history of football😀 Straight from the Lou Holtz playbook. #Sandbag
  11. Some schools/ school corporations will mandate a week off this week, especially if they start classes the first week of August. Coaches might also give the week off so that the players are fresh come day 1 of practice
  12. 15-2.6 Competition Days a. all sports teams, with the exception of football, may participate in up to Ten (10) Competition Days (a day when a School’s coaching staff takes Two (2) or more players from a School’s team to either participate with or compete against One (1) or more players from another member School or Non-School Team). See rule 15-2.7 regarding football. b. Prior to the first day of Summer, a School’s coaching staff must designate to the School’s principal or athletic director the specific Competition Days in which the School’s team plans to participate. 15-2.7 Football A School, and players from the School’s football program, may participate in Football Activities (participation in any football related activities while wearing helmets or shoulder pads) under the following standards: a. Students may not participate in any Full Contact Football Activities (any intentional football activity by a player where the goal is to take One (1) or more competing players to the ground as the result of a collision) during the Summer. b. Schools may sponsor up to Twelve (12) Football Activity Days (a day when a School’s football coaching staff coaches Two (2) or more players from the School’s football team engaged in Football Activities) during the Summer. c. A School’s Football Activity Days may include up to Five (5) Football Competition Days (a day when a School’s football coaching staff takes Two (2) or more players from a School’s football team to either participate with or compete against One (1) or more players from another School or Non-School Team). The maximum time for a School’s Football Activity Day held at a member-School facility will be Three and one-half (3 1/2) hours of activity over a Five (5) hour period. d. A student’s football equipment during Summer Football Activities is limited to a helmet, shoes, shoulder pads, a girdle and a mouth piece. e. A student may engage in no more than One (1) session of Football Activities during a Football Activity Day and the maximum time of the session is Two (2) hours. f. Prior to the first day of Summer, a School’s football coaching staff must designate to the School’s principal or athletic director the specific Football Activity Days and the Football Competition Days in which the football program plans to participate. https://www.ihsaa.org/sites/default/files/documents/2023-24 By-Laws.pdf (Pages 69 & 70) Football = 12 Activity days (pro pads) and 5 Competition Days (vs other schools) Other team sports = 10 Competition days [my commentary] 10 competition days, but feel free to play 3 or 4 basketball games per day. Really good idea to play 8-9 basketball games over a 2 days span. Only counts as 2.
  13. I'm not sure what is uglier. The black or the red/blue/orange/yellow lines on it. I guess the soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey teams all get to share the field as well. And you thought band directors were protective of "field time" LOL. But until yesterday I had never heard of Morrisville, NY. So mission accomplished.
  14. My gut tells me you have East Central too low, but I don't know enough about the MIC/HCC teams to see how they would stack up. It's always dangerous to play the transitive wins game, but we should have a decent comparison after week 4, since Moeller starts out with Ben Davis, Dwenger, East Central, and Center Grove.
  15. @Bobref am I correct in assuming that this September, if a player spins the ball in the end zone and encourages his teammates to celebrate with him that it will be flagged? (42:40 mark of video)
  16. Lots of unnecessary extra curriculars. White hat (who might be a poster here?) gave the coaches a warning. Another late hit on the next play, so he called the game with just a little over 4 minutes left. The only question I have - I get it's an "All Star" game. However #18 of the South makes an unbelievably athletic interception (42:20 mark of the Youtube video.) He then proceeds to run to the opposite end zone, spin the ball and dance - joined by his South teammates. No flag whatsoever. However the game deteriorated from that point with trash talking and shoving after the play. Even a North player head-butted a South player and was ejected (1:09:05 mark). Finally #18 from the South also started the course of events that resulted in the game being called. (2:52:55 mark). It's not fair to judge in hindsight, but I wonder if #18 had been flagged in Q1, would the escalation of the trash talk have continued to the end result?
  17. I have heard Castle and Boonville both for 2024. At least that was the online chatter around the time they scrimmaged a few weeks ago. Unsure about Tecumseh.
  18. Has anyone seen a promo or schedule for the SIAC coaches preview show with Dan Egierski? That has been a highlight of July the past few years and I hope it continues
  19. Thanks for the input. I appreciate the perspective. And saying ‘Well, those 96 kids at Covert shouldn’t get a chance to play football because they will play against Bangor in basketball’ is a pretty ridiculous viewpoint. Glad for them MHSAA doesn’t take that stance. But that is just me.
  20. Under the current system school year 2023-24 is the end of a two year cycle. The press release states it will start annual counts 2024-25. So my assumption (and you know grandma said about assumptions) is for football this fall (2023) teams like MD and East Central have 4 points from 2022 to be added to their fall 2023 results. If they have 6, they move up for 2024 & 2025. Any points earned in fall 2023 will be added with points earned in 2024 to measure against the 6 for ‘bump up’ purposes. The fall 2022 & 2023 point count will go on as planned but the first ‘rolling’ count will be fall 2023 & 24 (school year 2024-25) as stated in the press release. This is my interpretation anyway
  21. I take it they were ‘small school’ division and GS was ‘large school.’?
  22. I saw Coach White took the HC job at Owen Valley. I thought he was always the one that scheduled the tourney. Is it still on for this weekend?
  23. The next Jasper roster available online will be the first I have seen. You need to have national security level clearance to get stats on the Wildcats too.
