Just bumping this to the top after seeing last Friday's score. Cascade beats Greencastle in a close one: 98-13. I'm not Muda or DT, but how in a running clock era can the final score be that lopsided?

Evansville could benefit by consolidating 5 schools into 4. They would end up with two 5A’s and two large 4A’s.

My mistake. I was thinking the Bloomington Schools were paired with Castle/North. BHSS looks to be a tough regional opponent for the winner of 16. I like the SIAC chances for 5A better against Floyd/NA.

Perhaps a brain teaser for you and @Bobref of a play I saw Saturday during a D3 football game. (If NFHS and NCAA rules differ, please feel free to correct me.) During a punt, the receiving team was called for an illegal block. It was a high kick, so the flag was thrown while the ball was still in the air. The punt returner muffed the kick and a kicking team member fell on the ball. This is where I was confused. The kicking team member was not happy with the illegal block and cheap-shotted an opponent. Clearly dead-ball post play foul. Enforcement - I think because microphone system cut out - was kicking teams ball 1st and 10, 15 yards back from the punt recovery spot. I think it was live-ball foul on R, muffed kick, dead-ball foul on K. But only deadball foul on K was enforced. Thanks for any clarification.

The eyeball test tells me the conference is down a little this year. I don’t think it’s as bad as 2013, but no way of knowing until sectional finals week. Hopefully by then enough connections will be made to calibrate the rankings. It a possibility that no SIAC teams advance to regionals - which I think last happened in 2013.

A couple things I am wondering. 1. What to make of last week's Southridge/ Mt Vernon game? Were the rumors of SR's demise a bit premature? Is MtV's schedule front loaded with winnable games (excluding GS) and now they face tougher opponents like HH? 2. Does PC have a shot to break the 0-fer against SS? Or do the Rebels get their 2nd win of the year? 3. Boonville - Princeton is intriguing. Based on week 8 & 9 opponent records, this may pose the best chance a win for the remainder of the year for both.

Fair enough. Counterpoint - coaches and non-participants are not allowed on the field of play or the white of the sideline - yet there are sideline warning penalties if they occur. My question was ‘what if.’

What's the ruling if a punt hits a drone mid-flight? I guess it could be a pass or kick off as well.

And that’s the reason I think it may never happen. Too much control at stake and egos can get involved.

I think I have seen it used as ‘double sticks’ - meaning it was 3rd and more than 10 yards. Although now I’m wondering if those also might have been 4th down plays, so the clock would stop regardless of outcome.

3. Reitz 4. Castle 5. Memorial So I guess it’s a fair assumption that Sokeland thinks the top 2 teams in SW Indiana are in the PAC. A debate that won’t be settled until November.

Great in theory but mathematically impossible with an odd (9) number of teams. It works for Reitz, but they are the only team with a non-conference game week 2. Jasper (week 9) already filled their opening with CN.

That’s why they are playing Saturday. And those distances are common come playoff time. Both GS (TW in 2021) and Reitz (Cathedral in 2009) have had Indy trips for semi state and state in back to back weeks.

Is it time to talk East-West split or is North/ South still the best dividing line for the state?

I agree that I like the new NFL rule. Get rid of surprise onsides and 40 yard sprints just to run into another player. The idea of a ‘landing zone’ for a HS kicker is where I think the modification needs to be made. I’ve seen plenty of kickers at the varsity and lower levels who have no idea where it will go when they kick it. I also love the 4th and 15 instead of the obvious onside. I would rather have defensive players out there rather than every WR, RB, and maybe even QB trying to field a kick to preserve a win.

My guess is athletic competition was not the driving factor of this merger. Mainly to save $$ by reducing overhead on educational spaces and administrative costs. But a presumable 6A school would be a long way from similar sized opponents

I think all of them. I would assume everything is still tentative though.

There was a schedule floating around last month. Heritage Hills, Forest Park, SS and Washington were the only PAC teams I saw. I guess they are the only ones working on their passing game this summer.

Nine teams means there will always be a team with a bye or non-conference each week. The bigger miss is not adding three teams and going to divisions, IMO. Jasper might have been able to get some bigger gate $$ with one of their more traditional rivals like SR, HH, or even GS. But they chose to go big school route for playoff prep.

I'm hoping the 2017 "West Lafayette" was a typo. Either 2017 Ev. Memorial or 2009 West Lafayette (w/ Mr. Football Wodicka at QB). I could be convinced of either of those. 2017 WL was 11-2 and lost in regional. A good year, but would be an outlier amongst the other state winners at the top.
