  1. And that’s the reason I think it may never happen. Too much control at stake and egos can get involved.
  2. I think I have seen it used as ‘double sticks’ - meaning it was 3rd and more than 10 yards. Although now I’m wondering if those also might have been 4th down plays, so the clock would stop regardless of outcome.
  3. 3. Reitz 4. Castle 5. Memorial So I guess it’s a fair assumption that Sokeland thinks the top 2 teams in SW Indiana are in the PAC. A debate that won’t be settled until November.
  4. Great in theory but mathematically impossible with an odd (9) number of teams. It works for Reitz, but they are the only team with a non-conference game week 2. Jasper (week 9) already filled their opening with CN.
  5. That’s why they are playing Saturday. And those distances are common come playoff time. Both GS (TW in 2021) and Reitz (Cathedral in 2009) have had Indy trips for semi state and state in back to back weeks.
  6. https://www.courierpress.com/story/sports/high-school/2025/07/28/ihsaa-football-high-school-quarterbacks-to-watch-in-southwest-indiana-evansville/85275446007/ Good article from @kylesokeland in today’s Courier. Mentions most of the SIAC QB’s. A lot of good talent in the conference.
  7. Is it time to talk East-West split or is North/ South still the best dividing line for the state?
  8. I agree that I like the new NFL rule. Get rid of surprise onsides and 40 yard sprints just to run into another player. The idea of a ‘landing zone’ for a HS kicker is where I think the modification needs to be made. I’ve seen plenty of kickers at the varsity and lower levels who have no idea where it will go when they kick it. I also love the 4th and 15 instead of the obvious onside. I would rather have defensive players out there rather than every WR, RB, and maybe even QB trying to field a kick to preserve a win.
  9. My guess is athletic competition was not the driving factor of this merger. Mainly to save $$ by reducing overhead on educational spaces and administrative costs. But a presumable 6A school would be a long way from similar sized opponents
  10. I think all of them. I would assume everything is still tentative though.
  11. There was a schedule floating around last month. Heritage Hills, Forest Park, SS and Washington were the only PAC teams I saw. I guess they are the only ones working on their passing game this summer.
  12. Nine teams means there will always be a team with a bye or non-conference each week. The bigger miss is not adding three teams and going to divisions, IMO. Jasper might have been able to get some bigger gate $$ with one of their more traditional rivals like SR, HH, or even GS. But they chose to go big school route for playoff prep.
  13. I'm hoping the 2017 "West Lafayette" was a typo. Either 2017 Ev. Memorial or 2009 West Lafayette (w/ Mr. Football Wodicka at QB). I could be convinced of either of those. 2017 WL was 11-2 and lost in regional. A good year, but would be an outlier amongst the other state winners at the top.
  14. https://www.ihsaa.org/sites/default/files/documents/050625.Fall Sectional Assignments.pdf Let's see how my link pasting ability works. *Fingers Crossed
  15. Nope. Don’t like this at all. I would never want a coach to be forced to put his starting D back in the game to preserve a point spread. I could see some sort of exception - down 35 at half and receiving the second half kickoff - you get one possession of normal time. Then if still 35 it runs. I also don’t like seeing a team up 27 score a TD and feel like they have to go for 2. 33 points (5 scores) should be enough if reached in the 3rd or 4th.
  16. Home field advantage on grass? I will have to dig up the picture of the field for the Memorial / Brownstown regional game in 2016. A farmer would have been embarrassed with a cow pasture that bad. 😀 (BTW I think the OL/DL decided that game, not the horrible field conditions.)
  17. The biggest ‘mud game’ that comes to mind is 2006 Jasper @ Ev Central in the sectional. Best team Central had in school history (at the time) ended up losing to the Power Pitch of the Wildcats in standing mud. 8-7 final score. I would guess Central wins by 2-3 TD’s on a dry field. It’s the main reason all EVSC schools got turf a year later.
  18. Wouldn't be the first time, amiright?
  19. Rather than rehash the same tired recruiting arguments... The original post asked about Success factor. I think Providence will also move up to 2A based on enrollment. Any idea when new sectionals will come out? At the next IHSAA meeting?
  20. Thanks for posting all these. Hart and Paridaen were both external (although Head Coaches elsewhere). The other five are long-time assistants who were internal candidates earning promotions. I wonder if that is the norm or just the case in SW Indiana this year?
  21. I agree. For example, I just looked at one of the recent posts: This seems tame compared to some of the other stuff. But this still falls into the category of things a site administrator shouldn't post under the username. Just unnecessary, IMO.
  22. Congratulations to Coach Nero. Best of luck in his future *ahem* roles.
  23. Imagine if South Gibson could not do anything until the East Gibson and North Gibson schools could afford it as well. And there's no doubt a certain EVSC is favored over all others when it comes to athletics. It will be even more difficult with transfers.
  24. I've seen plenty claims of "other coaches actively recruiting" immediately, but did not see any actual ones myself. I'm not naive enough to think it hasn't happened in DM's, but that has been going on for years. I just haven't seen any public displays.
  25. Just a guess by me. But Coach Ward has a daughter graduating this May. I think she is going to play volleyball in college. In his statement, he mentioned thanking his daughters for sharing his time with football players. Nothing more than that IMO. https://x.com/BoonvilleSports/status/1899162549439897753
