  1. I’m ok with the change. However this is a bad justification. If the offensive coordinator calls a play where a player and presumably the ball are 10 yards behind the LOS so a hold can occur should be flagged for a dumb play call. Lol i would assume enforcement would be more efficient as well.
  2. Interesting. Perhaps something like Decatur, Franklin Central, Perry Meridian, Center Grove, Southport, and Whiteland? As someone completely outside Indy, what if some of those 6 joined with Warren, LN, LC, and Pike in a "new" MIC? Then North Central and Ben Davis were to join the HCC?
  3. I would have thought the same about Decatur and Franklin Central. I could see Perry Meridian being in the mix for MIC consideration as well.
  4. Not a bad guess - at least given Temp's vague clues. But the TH Schools (who could also fit the "package deal" clue) dropped out of the MIC some time ago because of travel. I can't imagine in an era of budget tightening that schools would want to fund 2 hour round trip bus rides.
  5. Unfortunately my sons did not want to play QB. I guess it must be a recessive gene? That, or they just take after their mother. Lord, I apologize for that.
  6. Yes. Lots of SIAC and area QBs. Or at least I read that online.
  7. I notice you said clear shot and not straight shot. Lol If I had to drive north from Spencer on 231 on a daily basis, I would want some hazard pay! Especially during ice/snow season.
  8. Interesting tidbit. I did not know he was not residing in the Spencer/Owen County area. That would have been a tough daily commute.
  9. Showing my age, but I played youth football in the era of the "Ickey Shuffle." When I scored my first TD, guess what I did? The referee's flag after I spiked the ball and then the reprimand from the coach quickly got my attention. So my career stats include 1 (and only 1) Ickey Shuffle celebration. My irritation with the clip isn't with the 3rd graders. They are just imitating what they have seen on TV/YouTube/TikTok. It does bother me that a coach and parents allow such behavior.
  10. Mythical championships must carry a lot of weight.
  11. Your explanation made sense to me. But here are some examples as well. 4 year rolling cycle would mean the IHSAA would look at success in 2019-2022 when determining which class a team should be slotted for the 2023 tournament. Evansville Mater Dei: Sectional (19), Regional (20), Semi (21), State (22) = 10 points If you looked at 21 & 22, Mater Dei should be up in 3A next fall. But SF only includes 2022 success and will be re-evaluated AFTER the 2023 season. A 4 year look would probably say EMD should be bumped up. Indianapolis Roncalli: Sectional (19), State (20), Sectional (21), Regional (22) = 8 points East Central: Sectional Loss (19), Sectional Loss (20), Sectional (21), State (22) = 5 points East Central will get bumped to 5A if they win regional in 2023. Under a 4 year roll, Roncalli would have more sustained success, especially if they replace the 2019 Sectional point with 2, 3, or 4 in 2023. But Roncalli will get bumped up ONLY if they win state in 2023.
  12. That is just too logical and makes too much sense. If I designed the system, it would be exactly that.
  13. I would be curious what ‘hard caps’ would look like. But I also know that it would only work with some sort of qualifier - I.e. you can’t have a class of 75 schools fill out a 64 team bracket. For example: 1A < 350 2A 351 - 550 3A 551 - 800 4A 801 - 1250 5A 1251 - 2000 6A 2000+ Really, though if they just figured out a way to get more than 32 teams in 5A, I think that would even out 2,3, and 4 better from a competitive standpoint
  14. Regarding the last play, the tackler had the ball carrier in his grasp and they were in the process of going to the ground. This was the second defender coming in on the play and as @Irishman pointed out there were multiple indicators of targeting. I saw it as targeting live during the play but figured there was no way they would call it given the time/score. (Watch any Hail Mary attempt for OPI/DPI as examples of not calling a penalty due to time/score.) Then when they reviewed the hit, I assumed they would have to call it since it was so obvious, IMO. As far as the TD, I do not see any clear/obvious evidence to overturn the call on the field. Bad decision - which became magnified with Michigan's worse decision to attempt a handoff to a converted defensive player. And don't even get me started on trick plays on the goal line.
  15. 1. Probably focused on beating Cleveland and didn't look ahead 2. Very hard 3. No
  16. Thanks. I figured there was some reason like that but was just curious. I was trying to sketch out the 3A sectionals and they are in 32. Had a heck of a drive to Heritage Hills last year for round 1. Evv Mater Dei could win regional next year and be success factored up to 3A which would cause reshuffling of the southern sectionals as well.
  17. Someone have any inside information on Madison Consolidated? (SE corner of the state.) 2019- 2020 they were 867 (4A) with over 200 students in each grade. https://ihsaapublic.blob.core.windows.net/portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick resources/Enrollments & Classifications/Enrollments 19202021.pdf They lost 130 students in enrollment and dropped to 3A with 737. https://www.ihsaa.org/sites/default/files/documents/2022-23 2023-24 Football Alignment.pdf The numbers above show them at 847. I’m sure there’s a logical reason, I just am wondering what causes 20-30 students in each grade to disappear/reappear in the counts.
  18. Hard to tell rumor from fact on conference realignment. Is Tecumseh joining the small PAC for fall 2023? Is Southridge moving to the Big division? I have heard both but I don't know if either is true. I thought MV could make some noise, as most thought their JR group last year - seniors in fall 23 - were their deepest class. The coaching change is always a big question mark though. I think BV graduates most of its skill talent. I agree a two team race GS-HH for the title. Small division? SR should take it, IMO. I don't have much of an opinion on anyone else, other than not even Knute Rockne could win at PC as they try out their 5th coach in 8 years.
  19. I had an "I agree" that I deleted before posting. I agree with NCAA yardage enforcement as you mentioned. I think the down should be replayed and a first only if yardage dictates. But I don't get to write the rules LOL.
  20. HS football is filled with double tight, wing T, wishbone teams who throw the ball once every quarter. DPI on their 5 yd TE dump pass shouldn’t give them 15 yards. Is the extra 15 yards for intentional DPI (making it a 30 yard penalty) still in the rule book? Have you ever seen it enforced?
  21. I think it will be Bowen. Here are some stats: 1. 220/336 (65.6% completion) - 2,911 yards, 29 TDs, 11 INTs. State runner-up, state champ Jr/ Sr year 2. 247/386 (64% completion) - 3,868 yards, 51 TDs, 7 INTs. State champ, State Runner-up Jr/Sr year If Michael Lindauer (stat line #2) didn't win Mr. Football, Wunderlich (#1) probably won't either. And if it wasn't for some Karlaftis guy currently running around KC, Lindauer would have been 2 time state champ.
  22. I agree. 12 games in 13 weeks, culminating with a conference championship for some. I think it would be a 5 week playoff, but the point still holds that USC in that bracket could play 18 games in 19 weeks. Oh. And the players could occasionally go to class and take a final exam sometime during that playoff as well.
  23. Move-in To me, the term transfer at the HS level implies that a player switches schools without a change of address. Charlie Spegal comes to mind. He moved into New Pal.
  24. It appears the TD call was the game winning score. At least from the news sources I have been able to find. Egads. https://www.si.com/.amp/high-school/2022/12/10/controversial-touchdown-call-georgia-high-school-3a-state-championship-video
