Enrollment figures
oldtimeqb replied to TheStatGuy's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I agree that the Evansville schools seem a little low. I think EVSC doesn’t count the half-day students at Tech or AIS. But then they add them back to their home districts for IHSAA purposes. Or something to that affect. I wonder how the state will handle virtual students as well. I think EVSC really pushed their ‘virtual academy’ which also means several hundred students may not be included. -
AAAA State Championship - Hobart v. Roncalli

Chatard along with a lot of underclass returning for Roncalli, Mooresville, and Mt Vernon. But as @Lysander said - only one of Chatard and Roncalli will make it out of sectional. -

4A is setting up to be a bear of classification again next year. -

This is my first time seeing Hobart, so I will defer. I agree though it’s tough to defend in man every down. -

An attempt at zone on that 3rd and 7. Big conversion for Roncalli there Pressure on the next 3rd so they got off the field. -

Great call on the ineligible downfield. In this RPO happy world, I wish every crew could pick up on those. -
Definite tip of the cap to the 3rd team today. Several bang-bang calls with fumbles/spots. The holding late with the 4th down measurement before WeBo decided accept/decline. And the unfortunate kick catch and defensive pass interference calls that were 100% the right call. A penalty is a penalty whether in the first or 48th minute. The crew was top notch in my book as expected.

My point was that if the team in white was St. Webo, I have a suspicion we would be discussing the weakness of a hard 2 year reclassification. Instead you want to turn it into a referendum on every P/P school in the state. I don’t care who wins this game at all. Right now the game is hinging on 3rd and 4th down conversions and protecting the football. Just like every other game. I’m not an odd front fan, but I am curious to see how BL employs it against the Wing T and unbalanced looks of Webo.

Agree completely. 6A would be the only class it would work for. 2A - Luers vs WeBo and Mater Dei vs Pioneer 3A - Southridge vs Chatard and Mish Marian vs Danville 4A - Hobart vs Mooresville and Roncalli vs Marion Imagine you could have had Evansville Central and Hobart being a semi-state matchup. Crazy.

3A State Championship: Chatard vs. Danville
oldtimeqb replied to Knightmare's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Just curious - what are the chances that BOTH teams will be in 4A next year? Obviously Chatard will be, but Danville was one of the largest 3A's this time around. As far as this game, I'm not sure a 2017 matchup under a different coach means a whole lot. I watched parts of both games last Friday and came away impressed with Danville's speed in limiting Southridge. They also had a some interesting schemes to take advantage of what Southridge tries to do defensively. Chatard looked solid on both sides. -
Nickname Hall of Fame revisited
oldtimeqb replied to Gipper's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Consolidation killed nickname creativity here in SW Indiana. The Poseyville Poseys merged into North Posey Vikings. Haubstadt Elites, Fort Branch Twigs, and Owensville Kickapoos became the Gibson Southern Titans. Mt Olympus Olympians consolidated to Princeton Tigers. Holland Dutchmen joined into Southridge Raiders. Oakland City Acorns are now part of the Wood Memorial Trojans. And my personal favorite, the Monroe City Blue Jeans consolidated into the South Knox Spartans. -

If you were trying to be punny, well played. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_of_Old_Vincennes (For the rest of the illiterate rubes out there like me...) -
In the words of Dennis Green ‘They are who we thought they were.’ I was pulling for both SIAC schools but not completely surprised with the outcomes.

Next Weekend’s Schedule...
oldtimeqb replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I interpreted the IHSAA’s intention of setting the schedule as an attempt to boost PAID attendance, not the number of fans at any particular game. For example, fans are going to drive the ‘21 Miles’ to Lucas Oil whether they play Friday or Saturday. But I know plenty of people who drove the 200 miles from Evansville because Memorial (3A) and Reitz(4A) played back to back on Saturday morning in 2009. In 2018 they stayed home and watched both Memorial and Central in because 3/4A were separate days. More ticket sales was the goal not the value of watching two games was my interpretation. I could be wrong and also this year’s COVID math completely changes the equation too.
