  1. They were “success factored” but, like you, I can’t recall if they might have actually also been 5A coterminous with the bump up….in any event, it was close I believe. With that, I’d argue the only true 5A school to actually win 5A is Snider (in, arguably, the most exciting State Championship game I’ve ever watched). I realize that Westfield was technically 5A when it won but by everything I’ve read or seen both then and now, they were well into 6A student population the year they won. Truthfully, 5A has only ever had one legitimate “home grown” power - Snider. Every other champion has generally been jumped up 4As or a sole 6A on its way out. I’ll not pat myself on the back too hard but I called it back when 5A was given its mutant birth. 5A is essentially where every good 4A team wants to graze because the pickings are so easy.
  2. I was at the ticket booth (already freezing) and decided, screw it, drove 6 miles home and watched the televised live game on TV-along with a few cups of hot chocolate.
  3. BTW, Tango, if my aged brain recalls correctly weren’t we trying to gather at the nearby Skyline pregame that year but you had to cancel the planned dogsled trip up to these northern climes?
  4. Like many, I remember that game well. With that, the weather that day was tailor made for Coach L’s offense in those days…..that game played at LOS would have looked very different.
  5. Get your phrases straight - it’s “Dirty, Cheatin’ Catholics”.
  6. I could see them taking down Mooresville certainly but I don’t think they have the horses to handle Roncalli……that said, I ate a lot of crow after the Roncalli/Mt. Vernon game last year. Still consider that a monster upset.
  7. It’s always a great game. As much as I admire Roncalli, I am of the opinion East Central will have to wait until next year for a Roncalli rematch. I think New Pal is likely the team to beat this year in a strong, resurgent 4A.
  8. Outside of the Indy Metro, any Sectional south of I-70 and east of I-65 with East Central as a participant IS by definition an East Central Invitational. They are the dominant team in any class for that quarter of the State - in any class. The almost annual Roncalli/East Central (or Chatard/East Central in those years Roncalli was unavailable) is a great game for Indiana HS football.
  9. Columbia City 25 Norwell 24 Final "Down goes Frazier"
  10. Roncalli 21 East Central 19 Final Turnover laden game with EC having, I believe, 4 turnovers that most likely cost them the game. No question EC is the dominant football team in Southeast and East central (no pun intended) portion of Indiana.
  11. Chatard 16 Cincy Elder 21 Final Elder clinches it with a 1st down on a 4th and 1 with 47 seconds to go.
  12. Chatard 16 Cincy Elder 21 1:49 left in 4th
  13. Chatard 10 Cincy Elder 21 6:51 left in 4th Roncalli. 21 EC. 19 8:53 left in 4th
  14. Chatard 10 Cincy Elder 21 6:51 left in 4th
  15. Chatard 10 Cincy Elder 14 3:25 left in 3rd
  16. Chatard 7 Elder 7 6:00 left in 2nd Roncalli 7 East Central 6 9:22 in 2nd
  17. Chatard 35 Terre Haute North 0 Half I don't think North has a single first down
