Chatard’s head football coach the last 3 seasons is a partner at a law firm....he’s lost 2 games the last 2 seasons. He’s far from the only head coach there from outside the building (or even the teaching profession).

WOW!! That is simply awesome! I’ve been wanting to see these two play each other FOREVER! It would be great if they could sustain the series...I think it would definitely help both schools come playoff time. BTW, I just noticed Chatard is also playing Warren Central second game of the season. This might not be the best year for Chatard to take on these two Indiana powerhouses given their graduation losses from last season but I am glad to see it happen regardless. Hoping these sort of games set the tone for the future. They will be good for all involved. I’d imagine there will be some degree of hype and buildup surrounding this late season match-up.

He’s going to be hard to replace. His 2016 team was heads and tails ahead of any 3A and “Success Factored” 4A team at the time (in 2016, traditional 4A teams like Cathedral, Columbus North and New Pal had already moved on to 5A). In 2016, Concordia was an absolute MACHINE. As an ancient EIAC guy, I felt terrible that Lawrenceburg drew THAT short straw. Even last year, he came up with a game plan (minus, perhaps, his top offensive player) that fought Chatard (who ended the year as the 6th ranked team in ALL, repeat, ALL classes per Sagarin) right down to the very, very end. To be clear, the 3A State Championship games last year were ALL played in the North between Chatard, Concordia and Mishawaka Marian (the Lucas Oil “State Championship” game was an afterthought.........thanks Tri-West AD, btw). Not that it needs reminding (but I will), the 3A State Champion defeated the 4A State Champion during regular season play..... Back to the point, BIG SHOES need to be filled at Concordia.

The powers that be will undoubtedly place Chatard and Roncalli in the same Sectional next year. There can be only one (to coin a phrase) so it’s likely that either Chatard (a) moves back down into 3A in a couple of years, (b) remains or (c) moves up and Roncalli either (a) remains or (b) moves up. Unfortunately, all things considered, I think the likeliest scenario is that in 2 years Chatard goes back to 3A and Roncalli moves up to 5A. Just a guess, though.

That’s exactly how I felt. I honestly couldn’t believe that game was still going on.

Yeah ....the SEI guys do a nice job. I still am amazed at how they managed that 5 plus hour Lawrenceburg/Brownstown Central game during playoffs this past Fall on a Friday night/Saturday morning.

Looks that way-nice pick up. I think it says a lot about the direction they see themselves as going as well. Been a long time since Roncalli has played an actual Cincy team if I recall correctly (though some might argue that East Central may qualify). Roncalli is going to be an absolute beast this Fall.

Chuck Freeby and company of WHME TV-46 out of South Bend are easily the best I’ve seen in watching more than a fair number of broadcasts around the state over the years.

Is it beyond people to stick to the point or is it just too much fun to resist acting like the idiots in DC? A question was submitted and it seems to break down as follows: 1. Is it fair to biological women to allow transgenders into their sports? if it’s fair, then - discussion over. 2. If it’s not fair, then what do we do? (a) Set up separate transgender sports or (b) Do nothing and just say there are no sports available for transgenders To be clear, I don’t care what God apparently tells you neither do I care what bromide you think you are supposed to say because you identify as Left or Right (at least the religious folks to their credit think they are getting it from God vs. some dumb@ss politician or celebrity). Damn few here are even attempting to discuss what we should do....if anything. Whether I think it’s BS or not, the situation is here....it exists. How do we deal with it?

Societally it seems we (not me personally but I’m unfortunately along for the ride) are committed to the continual fracturing and subdividing of the country. There are whole industries committed to it as well as a major political party. Admittedly the trans community probably accounts for 1/10th of 1% and regardless what I think of it, the currently dominant political party, the media and “academia” (excepting those who are actually scientists in this area) thinks they are more important than 1/2 our population (women). With that fact and the ongoing commitment to break our society down into ever small sub components and factions for political gain, I don’t think there is any other option.

In some cases, I think “being transgender” is simply a declaration. No surgery, no hormone treatment, etc.....at least not initially. That, obviously, is a problem for women’s athletics. Even following surgery, treatment, etc., it’s still problematic for women’s sports. I recognize that this whole thing is extremely complicated (I’ve been reading speculative fiction about this for decades and folks can’t begin to imagine just where this takes us societally) and that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg as to how it relates to the greater society BUT an easy call has to be that women’s sports are limited to biological women. If it’s not, then we may just as well get rid of women’s sports in their entirety because it becomes meaningless. With that, it appears that the best alternative is that we we add Transexual categories of sports all to themselves. If some women or trans men want to play “up” in Men’s sports that’s fine by me. But the reverse is an easy “No”. Honestly, I don’t care what people do with their bodies, who they sleep with, who or what they love so long as they don’t look at me to pay for it. Otherwise, people can do whatever the Hell they want regardless of my personal belief or opinion. To be clear, lest someone mistake this as coming from some “kumbaya” place of great tolerance or love on my part, it’s not. It’s cold-hearted, curmudgeonly ambivalence.

Which is usually 10 practices after Thanksgiving for your kids these past few years.

Ok...I’ll bite (before this is quickly kicked over to the OOB). I can’t see Indiana ever permitting transgenders in women’s Jr. High and High school sports unless it is forced by the Feds. Even if that were the case, I think common sense (and science) will prevail in the Supreme Court in the end. Most likely, the result will be separate sports set up for Transgenders while Men and Women’s sports will go on. Any other solution will ultimately destroy Women’s sports at every level. There is a question as to what different collegiate sports will ultimately be dropped as colleges have to further split limited resources to now fund Men’s, Women’s, Transgender Women and Transgender Men. Do I personally find all of this ridiculous? Yes, but I think that is how it eventually works out.

I admit to being a “die hard old timer” but the days when Bobby Knight might show up at an Indiana HS gym and the surrounding communities talk about it for generations are long, long gone......and never coming back. The magic is gone. I hate to break the, now decades old, news but HS basketball and IU basketball are empty husks of what they were. The last time I went to a HS game those in attendance were parents, a handful of students and a bunch of football players who had earlier been lifting down in the weight room.

If an average football team has 30 players (guessing on this) and the average basketball team has 10 (guessing again) then we’ve got 9600 kids playing football and 4040 playing basketball. I’m not making any statement other than crunching these numbers (if those estimates are sensible ones - they might not be). Curious how many D1 scholarships there are comparatively between the 2 sports and how those have tracked over the last 20 years. Admittedly beyond my kin (or ambition) to try tracking it myself.

I can’t speak to the relative academic strength between NAIA vs. NCAA....not something I know much about or would dare speculate on. That said, I think (solely an opinion from my observations) the whole comparison between Division I (FCS), Division II, Division III and NAIA is relative to the sport (and maybe geography). As regards college football in Indiana, my sense is that outside of DI Notre Dame, IU, Purdue and Ball State the next best teams would be NAIA Marian and St. Francis. I realize it’s anecdotal but last time NAIA Marian played DII UIndy (2017) it was a mauling by Marian....no comparison....Men v Boys (at least from my perspective watching the game). As to how that comparison holds up nationally, I couldn’t begin to tell you. But if you go to a completely different sport like lacrosse nationally, the best college programs in order would be found in DI, DIII (yes, DIII....the top 10-15 DIII lacrosse schools are competitive with most any DI school), DII followed by NAIA. I’m not even sure there is DI (FCS) but there is club lacrosse at schools like Purdue and IU but they don’t really rate in comparison. As an example, some years ago, defending DIII Champion Salisbury defeated preseason No. 1 ranked DI Duke in a scrimmage....DII is catching up, though (UIndy is swiftly building a nice DII program). Pretty certain @Impartial_Observer probably has some...errr.....”observations” on all of this he might share.

I felt the same way on another thread when I mentioned that Noblesville has generally underperformed in football....then things went off the rails for pages....

I’m not necessarily one of those guys screaming for single class basketball but I will admit that I basically lost interest at that time. As was also pointed out, although I love Butler and Purdue, once IU firmly became the 3rd best college hoops program in the state (very deservedly) much of the interest has waned....it’s fun watching all the East coast IU fanboys beat their chests, though....at least til they go back home. Yes....and it’s been that way for at least 10-15 years. HS gyms have all the gala of retirement communities these days.

It’s not as if this is a first. BS cancelled their last game of the season with Chatard abruptly this past season because of “COVID” reportedly.....after assuring them up until quite late in the week (on Friday, if I recall correctly) that there would be a game. So far they have no cross conference CCC games scheduled for this Fall. Are the wheels coming off the whole Conference Indiana/Circle City Conference cross-conference schedule scheme because of one or two CI teams......or am I becoming DT?
