  1. BTW, I think Park Tudor is turf (in case your chart is saying it’s grass).
  2. Chatard now has a home field (after some 50+ years) where playoff games can take place. The new home field is turf. So, that would appear to be a change needed on your chart.
  3. Slightly different circumstance, but Andrean, while in 3A was “bumped” to 4A. While in 4A, their enrollment became 2A. They spent 2 years in 4A (while 2A in size). They did not acquire the needed points to stay “up” in 4A and so they dropped to 3A after 2 years - even though their population remained at 2A. They spent 2 more years in 3A before they finally moved back to 2A (after not acquiring enough points to stay “up” in 3A). Essentially, as I understand it, it took them 4 years to move back down to their enrollment “proper” class (2A) once they had been moved up.
  4. What absolutely jumps out (and blows me away) from those numbers is that the 4A Champ only has 48 more students than the 2A Champ. Amazing. Honestly, just can’t give Memorial enough credit.
  5. Pretty good list (particularly given how quickly you generated it). Being from Southeast Indiana, I’d make a case for Lawrenceburg on that list. Historically a power in Southeast Indiana (well before there was an East Central) and a couple of State Championships the late 70s. Bearing in mind that 4A is as large of a school size as that portion of the State has, Lawrenceburg ruled the roost for many years there.
  6. He was an assistant then - I thought I read. I only got to know him later when we double dated the Andrews Sisters just after Truman beat Dewey.
  7. I didn’t realize Southport was willing to do Home AND Away. That’s a fairly big haul for a 6A Indy team to make to play a 3A team (no matter who they are). Kudos to GS. No one could have guessed when those college fraternity photos of Southport’s AD would come in handy....
  8. Just a guess.....but it’s likely there’s gonna’ be some hate on this thread.
  9. Pretty much agree with your thought, but I still don’t buy this recently “reinvigorated” HHC as of yet. Excepting New Pal, as a football conference overall, it still punches well below its weight. Mt. Vernon’s recent Semistate appearance says more about the terribly weakened condition of that particular portion of the 4A bracket than it does anything else. I do agree that the prospects long term are more than good for Mt. Vernon and Pendleton. Add that I do have a lot of respect for Kirschner.....but just how much longer is he going to keep plugging at it?
  10. I’d consider it of equivalence with coaching at HSE without some of the parent issues one might find at HSE (despite some of Wimmer’s challenges in that arena over the last few years). Agree that it is likely the most attractive opening currently out there. A little saddening to me to see him go when I realize he was coaching his first year at Rushville when I played against them my Senior (and last football playing) year.
  11. I was aware of that.........AND I understand the benefits of having all your games committed every season (and the added benefits of a large conference to all the other sports) but, as a fan, I think I would really dislike it. Its been a huge blast to see other teams and places over the years. It’s actually one of the kicks I’ve gotten out of this CCC/CI cross-conference relationship. There was a brief time when I used to be able to see Dwenger live. These days NOBODY sees SAC teams until playoffs. It just feels like certain parts of the state are becoming more isolated from one another than ever. Just a fan’s rant on my part. edit. - given the current state of 4A, there is a more than decent chance Memorial moves up again.
  12. Seriously, if it is possible to send the full size rendering of your Avatar via GID Personal Messenger, I would truly love to have it. I honestly think it is one of the funniest things I have seen here. Thanks in advance....hopefully.
  13. 2013. Chatard won by 3. Ironically, I think the game was played at LN.....if I recall correctly. No games after that but I believe Chatard picked up Lawrence Central the next 5-6 years afterwards. Big time staff connection between Chatard and North Central these days, though. If that might mattter.
  14. True. The Deanery school teams used to run whatever they wanted. I assume that is still the same. If I recall correctly, when Doyle was Freshman coach at Chatard even he didn’t run the varsity offense (players may correct me on this, though).
  15. Totally agree. I have never not seen this as an advantage. P/P participation rates are generally high. Chatard football participation rates are insanely high by any standard....including P/Ps. Yet Memorial last year kicked Chatard’s butt and supports 2 State Championship level Men’s Fall sports. The year prior Danville (a public) did the same. High participation is great but you still only field 11 players at a time.
  16. Heck....it’s worse for an old adult in the stands. Felt like I was watching a shell game at LOS. I loved watching your offense....even though I never knew who had the ball.
  17. Random thoughts: 1. P/Ps do not limit school size for athletics. Aside from financial and likely physical constraints (nowhere to build), the argument begs against common sense. As has been stated, it’s a struggle to keep class sizes up. If they could grow to Carmel size, they would. 2. I agree with Irishman in that special needs kids that aren’t ever going to play a sport shouldn’t be counted toward totals for the purpose of classes. 3. I argued against the Success Factor from the beginning making many of the arguments @MHSTigerFan is making today (and I still agree with him). It’s Orwellian and reminds me of “Harrison Bergeron”. I always said just move all P/Ps up a class and be done with it (because the same untruths and complaints will always promulgate....as we are seeing here now). That thought didn’t get much traction either, though. But today, I think we are stuck with the Success Factor because for some, it’s now a point of pride. I have a feeling that New Pal, Columbus East and Cathedral all want to compete “Up” these days to show their stuff. I’m personally PO’d that Chatard didn’t stick in 4A (which still had New Pal, CE and Dwenger in it at the time) although I think 3A has been better than 4A the last few years (I personally think Memorial’s success there helps evidence that). Still, aside from the reason for its creation, there is a whole new contingent of teams that like being bumped up.
  18. Chatard’s football numbers are pretty public as are the affiliate feeder schools. The varsity roster is 76-77 (forget which) and the Freshmen team has 35 for a total of 111 kids. Assuming roughly 700 kids that’s 16% of the entire student body or 32% of all boys if the school is divided 50/50 boy and girls. Chatard’s situation is unique (possibly shared with Cathedral) in that it is very typical for parents to strongly encourage their Freshman boys to go out for Freshman football as a head start in getting to know their male classmates (assuming they don’t participate in any competing Fall sport). The role of the Freshman coaches (which was lead by Coach Doyle up until 3 years ago) was obviously to teach and coach up kids but a very important role of the Freshman coach was to make it fun and RETAIN kids for the next year move up to Varsity. The fact that parents almost utilize Freshman football as a pre-Freshman summer camp for their boys sets the stage for markedly higher football participation rates than normal.....even for a P/P. Funny thing is that sometimes that 98 lb hopeless Freshman who didn’t quit before he even started, sticks with it, then has a Jr. year growth spurt and turns into a gorilla his Senior year. Doesn’t always happen but it does happen. That said, are we supposed to penalize/punish/bump up (pick your word of choice) schools for high participation rates? Maybe, rather, we should seek to model that. Edit - God forbid what Chatard would be like if it wasn’t splitting almost 50% of its North Deanery football players with Cathedral and Brebeuf. Could you imagine combining Chatard and Cathedral into a single North Deanery parochial.....
  19. Outside of a Ralph coming in, it’s probably going to have to be a system based solution. You can’t just plug in a cookie cutter system like the other HCC schools and expect a new result. There lies madness. No tradition there....none. Going to take a bottom up fix there.
