  1. I was sugar coating. I can’t imagine Sectional 32 was the result of a bong hit either....whatever a bong hit is.....sounds like it might hurt, though.
  2. Since this thread is now premiering on The Food Network (admittedly my fault), I am leaning heavy toward the Acme. Going to call them to confirm the chili, though I’m thinking “Big Eyed Fish” as a fallback (liked their menu) if no chili at Acme. Considered impressing the better half and getting reservations at “Club Soda” but me being that thoughtful might be too much of a shock to her system. Add that I’m cheap. Safe travels to everyone attending. Just an FYI to Fort Wayne HS football junkies that might be looking to go to a live game. This Chatard team is pretty fun to watch. I know Carmel is in town and will be having their standard wine and cheese event pregame and a cotillion postgame.....but if you just like football.......
  3. It wasn’t only in drawing up Sectionals South of the Line of Disrespect that they were hitting the bong.....
  4. Yeah PBJ, with you on the whole “golf” thing....never have cared much for it and finally gave away the clubs. As to partying, well........I’m a mobile party...
  5. “The Line of Disrespect” - One of the pithiest and, yet, most astute observations/questions I have ever seen on the GID. I would suggest that there is probably another line somewhere around Lafayette based on certain other Northerly grumbles I have heard over the years as well. For the record, Tango, consider that phrase stolen.
  6. Good question. Wondering the same. Or is it number of years as an HC?
  7. Lip, I played against that ‘77 Tiger team for Brookville and the late HOF Coach Joe Codiano. We played that game at Brookville. Both Lawrenceburg and Brookville were undefeated at the time and both were ranked - I believe it was probably 5-6th game of the season. Tigers were No. 1 and the Greyhounds were No.4-6 (can’t remember....and didn’t even know they ranked HS teams until I saw it in the paper) in a bigger class per the Enquirer. Since Southeast Indiana wasn’t exactly rife with a lot of ranked teams it got good coverage in the Cincy Enquirer and they (apparently) had a reporter and photographer there. We ran the Houston veer offense and passed maybe 2-3 times per game. We had been getting stuffed the whole game and, in ABSOLUTE desperation, I was sent downfield on a streak route and somehow miraculously ended up catching (probably) a 60 yd pass. I thought I was in the clear but the safety for the Tigers ran me down like I was running through concrete. Ended up being the longest single gain we had that night, I believe. I also, had an open field tackle of Bryan Way (?) that ended up as a feature picture of the game in the Enquirer that my Mom still has in an old scrapbook (probably the only tackle I had in the game). We were beat soundly that night - can’t remember the final score. That was one helluva Tiger team, though. We were pretty solid and they laid waste to us. Found out 2-3 weeks afterwards that Lawrenceburg had to forfeit the game and we were (at least technically) undefeated. We were 9-0 the last game at Aurora - at Aurora HS’s last football game ever. If we won, we were in the playoffs (however they figured them in those days). We lead the whole game and through some bad decisions and equally bad execution found ourselves up 2 points with seconds left on the clock after Aurora had scored late on a desperation heave. I was a corner when I bit on the wrong que and my assignment got a 2 point conversion and sent it into OT. Furious, Coach yanked me out in OT. They ran the exact same play in OT against my sub and scored easily....winning the game. No playoffs. Long bus ride home. Season over. Funny thing is, I can’t hardly remember anything about the other 8 games we won that year. Yeah, I remember the ‘77 EIAC season like it was yesterday. Apologies for the digression.
  8. I think that’s the case. Lets be honest. More than a few of us here have talked about how 4A was weaker at the top than 3A was at the top the last few years. You might not have been one but I know some were from Memorial. I certainly said it (and still believe it). There are a variety of reasons for that (I believe) having, in part, to do with (a) a run of some exceptionally good teams in 3A; (b) the move into 5A of certain perennial 4A powers and new powers (Columbus East, Cathedral, New Pal, Dwenger..) and (c) some temporary(?) declines in certain teams that had some fairly long runs as exceptionally great teams (ex. Reitz, Roncalli).. All of those factors coming together resulted (in my opinion) in, at least, the top 2-3 teams in 3A being better than the top teams in 4A. It might well only be a temporary thing. Unfortunately, only Memorial actually clawed their way out of 3A and has to prove the premise. Admittedly, it may have only been a truth those 2-3 years. Still, I wish like Hell Chatard had made it stick originally...or could trade places with you guys as far as being in 4A. At that time, it required 4 points which should have been doable except for New Pal and Columbus East barring the way as they notched themselves up to higher levels. Add that a slightly down Chatard team was upset in Sectional (blown out) by a Roncalli team they had beaten earlier that year. Water under the bridge.... But yes, my understanding is that if you win Friday, you have 3 more years in 4A. In a perfect world (if you win Friday), I hope you have some 3A company in a couple of years.
  9. Yeah.....that’s the troubling part. The kids that follow pay for the success of those before them. I think the 2 points were the IHSAA’s “response” to the 4 years proposed by the IFCA. Less points needed but only 2 years. But even 2 years can be problematic. I used to kind of debate Coach G (good guy) who effectively put forth the IFCA program on this and my position was that the intent of the Success Factor was to keep the peace but in doing so it was actually (and quite intentionally) targeted at a handful of P&Ps. My arguments was just to move ALL P&Ps up a class and be done with it. Forget multipliers. That said, I’d be the first to admit that I just wanted to see Chatard play in 4A. For all that, it seems to be working but the law of unintended consequences (at a variety of levels) has clearly resulted. That said, some teams see “playing up” as a point of pride and I think that’s probably a good thing as regards improving quality but it still actually hurts those schools that just happen to have that 1 or 2 freakishly great classes and then the school reverts to form. No great solutions....just compromises..
  10. PBJ - That’s not what I’ve been told. I’ve heard you spend a lot of time down at Mar-A-Lago hanging out with your buddy playing golf and partying.
  11. Right now, if I am reading the correct document from the IHSAA it currently only takes 2 points in 2 years to stay up these days. If that is correct, then a single Regional or 2 Sectional Championships over the 2 year period will keep you up a class. Someone more in the know might want to confirm that.
  12. “Doing more with less”..... Sorry....done here.....just couldn’t contain it.
  13. Heh, with regard to the one “situation” I can just about guarantee that my little angel was no angel. I never really quite knew whether to believe the story I heard from the chain gang until I noticed your guy had a different helmet on the rest of the game. It was confirmed to me later by a coach. Still surprised they both didn’t get caught. No doubt the Statute of Limitations have run out for that game. Just a couple of years later there was absolutely no bad blood in that State Championship game between the teams from what I could tell. Oh well....days gone by....back to 4A.
  14. Definitely remember the HH game the week before. My home was robbed in the middle of the day THAT day....while my youngest (8th grader) was at home sick (Kid keeps a baseball bat under his bed to this very day). The following week there was a certain 63 yd TD called back in the Creek game that struck a little close to home as well. Same kid that “became friendly” with HH’s #13/23(?) the week prior. It caused a little stir at the time. Coolest thing, though, about that HH game was talking to Bud Wright and the Sheridan crew in the end zone for about 30 minutes prior to the game. Class guy.
  15. He actually lost in SemiState in ‘10 while at Indian Creek. He had a quality team. My personal opinion is that it was good enough to win at LOS if he had made it past that Semistate game. He had some real studs on that team.
  16. No kids currently in HS (or even college these days) so I don’t know what tuition is currently but my guess is that there is a $2,000.00 (or thereabouts) discount for North Deanery Parishioners from that Bishop Chatard number. That’s how it used to be. Still not certain if the point was being made in a prior post that teachers were paid more at parochials (or if the opposite was being said). Parochials, unfortunately, are not generally known for their great pay. Neither do they usually have facilities that compare favorably to public schools (Chatard just got a home field after almost 60 years). No sushi or Starbucks at parochials, either. Fish on Fridays, though....
  17. No problem. I just wasn’t following. Did you mean teacher pay was more or less in public schools? I just wasn’t sure which you meant. Also, I wasn’t sure where or what the diocese was with the golden shiny thing and the reference to the “bishopric”. I just wasn’t clear on the references. Apologies....I’m just not clear.
  18. Going with Webo. The improvement at HC is really very impressive (and they are ostensibly members of the CCC although they only play Guerin) and the Scecina win surprised me but I still have to go with the defending champs.
  19. Let me know if I need to send Uber money to Screagle and some others if the ocean parts and Memorial “somehow” wins (as well as Roncalli). I’m assuming he will have bet the farm on Mooresville since it’s a sure bet and he’ll no doubt need a lift....and the farm.
  20. Yes. But then, that’s almost always been the case. Lots of standouts over the years - only so many that can be nominated each year.
