  1. For a few years, our PE teacher would have weight lifting as part of PE. Worked out fine. The team could still lift after school. I believe they "contracted" with a fitness gym until a weight room was built at the school. Also with the way things are these days, you could trade off in advertising for services rendered. There are many businesses that have commercials during the Linton broadcasts on the radio. They could just put up a sign on the fence at the football stadium. No difference really.
  2. 13 players??? Yikes! Looks like there is no "luck of the Irish" as far as the virus is concerned. Seriously, it's too bad another game is getting cancelled.
  3. I already looked. Some of the teams are from the WRC are in sectional 45. And speaking of the WRC, I can't recall when this conference has had a more down year than this year. There are usually 3 or 4 teams fighting for first place. This year there are only 2 and everyone else is really having it tough. Fountain Central winless? Wow. North Vermillion only one win? Wow. I am really shocked. You are correct in that West Washington doesn't play anyone either. I brought them up because like PH they are beating up on other teams but NO ONE is talking about them. No one is calling them a "juggernaut" even though they have put up big numbers. They went 12 and 2 last year so apparently they have a lot of guys back from that team. I think they are every bit as strong as PH. If they happen to meet in the tournament, it might be a VERY fun game and they might burn the lights out of the scoreboard. LOL
  4. I would agree that all of that is important, Patriot 04. I wasn't overlooking those kind of things. I was looking at it from the initial standpoint. Those types of things would come later. Most of the weight stuff is High School due to the younger kids' bodies not being able to handle it especially at the youth level. I would think it would be like that for ALL classes regardless and not 3A and up. I think some of the smaller schools may not do those things (or some of them) because of the $$ involved. They only have so much money for sports and football takes up about 40% of a schools athletic budget from what I have been told.
  5. According to Sagarin, PH is worse. Their SOS is 292 and South Put's is 230. So PH has beaten up on teams and being called a "juggernaut" because playing a weak schedule allows you to do that. They should finish the season at 9 and 0 and be challenged by no one. They won't be challenged in the sectional either because it's mostly teams they will have beaten up on during the season. The team they HAVE to beat is West Washington. That is in the team in the south that NO ONE is talking about. They are just as dominate over opponents as PH is. So I see PH at least getting to the regional with no trouble. Juggernaut? Don't think so. They had a chance to challenge themselves on their schedule and turned it down. Hmmmmm.
  6. Some good thoughts and observations on this topic of discussion. I'd like to see more topics like this on here. I would like to add the following: If a school hires a new coach I would think his first order of business would be to meet with the head coaches of the junior high teams and the youth league(s) to discuss his offensive and defensive philosophies with them. If a kid has played the same defense and offense through junior high then in high school he'll know it backwards and forwards when he gets to his freshman year. I realize mostly in the youth leagues they are being taught techniques for blocking, tackling, etc but they do run some offense and defense. And if a coach is hired by a program that has no youth league, then I would hope his first order of business would be to get one started. I also realize some of the smaller schools may only have one grade school. In that case, they could still have a team but play other schools in the area. Maybe you'll only have a 4 or 5 game season, but at least they would be getting experience and exposure they can use at the junior high level. That is how I see a program being built and a program being consistently successful. You wouldn't build a house without a good foundation under it. So that is what I see: you MUST have a good foundation to have a successful program. Hey, just my two cents and maybe not worth that much in some people's eyes, but there it is.
  7. Actually BD averaged 46 points per game. My bad. Here's the thing: In 2016 Linton won the 1A title and they outscored their 6 opponents 293 - 77 or an average of 48 to 12. Does that say that Linton should be considered one of the greatest of all time? Of course not. My point is you can't just say someone breezed through a tournament year to call them the greatest of all time.
  8. That 2001 BD team outscored their 6 tournament opponents by a score of 279 - 83 or approximately a 49 - 13 average. The scores were sectional games: Pike 51 - 12, Southport 48 - 0, sectional title was Decatur Central 68 - 14, regional was Warren Central 56 - 21 (the season meeting was 38 - 28), semi state was Evansville Reitz 61 - 20, and the state final was 35 - 16 over Valpo. Not so sure you could just use these scores to justify making them the greatest of all time, but it was pretty much 6 blowout games during the tournament.
  9. We are heading down the homestretch now. Week 6 finds the Miners at the undefeated Cougars. While the Cougars have yet to be defeated, their opponents combined record is 4 - 13. Last week saw the Miners lose to 4A Boonville in OT while the Cougars beat 1A Rock Creek Academy, 40 - 7. Harrell is predicting a 35 - 24 Miner win. I'm expecting it to be more than 11 points as the Miners are going to be fired up after losing last week's game. Good health to the players and safe travels for everyone.
  10. I've read yours and why I was replying to it. I don't see why you are so upset (In your opinion) over Andrean's SOS being wrong. Like I said, take it up with Sagarin if you think it's wrong. I only used Sagarin's numbers. Not "butt hurt" or "sensitive" al all here. Don't try to make something out of nothing. Moving on.
  11. Go back and look at my original post. I did say I used this week's ratings and the ratings will change from week to week depending on the opponent. No need to argue that a team SHOULD BE higher. If you think it's wrong, take up the argument with Sagarin. It's his numbers that I used. Andrean at 171 didn't make the list this time. They probably will in the future. Linton sits at #130 this week but have all lower ranked teams left on their schedule. They will more than likely drop off this list after another game or two. Like I said, it changes weekly. And I DID say, "I was bored".
  12. One last comment and an FYI: Today, Navy was a touchdown underdog to Tulane. The score at halftime was 24 - 0 Tulane. Final score was 27 - 24, Navy! The rushing game finally got going in the second half and they also had a good passing game which was a surprise. Navy hit a field goal to win it as time was running out. Great comeback win for the Blue and Gold! Again, can't wait to watch Mockobee when he puts on the pads at the academy!!!
  13. Yeah, the ICC is a really good conference. A few state chamions come from that conference in recent years not to mention a few blue rings also.
  14. Okay so I was bored. Over the years there have been a lot of arguments (some of them heated) over who plays no one and who plays a meat grinder for a schedule. I thought I'd check to see who played the toughest schedules in 2A. I used the Sagarin ratings for this list. I have the school and their state rank for their schedule. I only used the top 15 since most years that is where the eventual champion comes from. Here ya go: 1) Ft. Wayne Luers 23 2) Evansville Mater Dei 61 3) Speedway 89 4) Cascade 98 5) Monrovia 101 6) Rensselaer Central 106 7) Shennandoah 109 8 Woodlan 114 9) Providance 115 10) Eastern Pekin 118 11) WInchester 119 12) Lewis Cass 124 13) Linton Stockton 130 14) Scecina 144 15) Triton Central 146 Keep in mind these are the ratings for this week. They will change from week to week depending on the opponent. Again, I was bored. And I apologize if I left someone out.
  15. Good win for Cathedral and a win for Indiana (first Brownsburg, now Cathedral). To me, it didn't matter much what the final score was. A win is a win. Week 9 is going to be the game of the year. How appropriate it is the last week of the regular season. I still say it should be on ESPN. That would be like icing on the cake as the saying goes.
  16. This was one of those games, it is a shame someone had to lose. Both teams played hard and seemed to leave it all on the field. Mockobee is as advertised and Navy is getting a good one. Best of luck to him in his future and I am looking forward to watching him on television on Saturday's. And good luck to the Pioneers in the 4A tournament in a few weeks.
  17. This was a very entertaining ball game. Of course I'm sorry the Miners lost. They had a couple of chances in regulation to win it, but that's football. Mockobee had 38 carries for 209 yards. At least that is what the announcers said. He was averaging 252 yards per game but on a LOT less carries. The play of the game was what looked like a Linton int but went through the defenders hands and was caught for a HUGE gain with the clock winding down in regulation. Boonville would score, get the 2 and send it to overtime.
  18. Overtime Linton 36 Boonville 36 this has been one heck of a ball game
  19. HALFTIME Linton 14 Boonville 14 The Miner defense has played pretty well. Mockobee has 16 carries for 78 yards at halftime. The Miner offense has given up a couple of fumbles and given Boonville short fields. The defense has bailed them out. The second Boonville TD was a fumble return for 6.
  20. Thanks for the info. He sounds like quite a specimen. Can hardly wait to see him play for the Midshipmen. Every so often Navy picks up a stud RB. The last few years it was the QB. Hope that Mockobee is the next great RB at Navy. And I'm glad he chose Navy and Navy accepted him. You don't get accepted there just from having perfect attendance in high school. And you have to have a letter of recommendation from either a congressman or a senator. I can't remember which. Linton is no stranger to defending good RB's. They have played against several over the years. Of course most of them weren't D-1 recruits, but several were still good quality backs. Speed and power is a deadly combo in a high school running back. I hope that Eslinger is at full strength for the Miners in this game. IMO, he's the best LB on the team and is always around the ball. He has a motor that just doesn't stop. Good health to both teams.
  21. I would agree Coach but with one change. I don't see how the ND head coaching job could outweigh ANY NFL head coaching job let alone just Da Bears. The opportunity to win a Super Bowl is a bit more prestigious than a college football championship. Besides, ND is stuck in the past and lives off of it's reputation and former glory. These days they are a shell of their former football selves. They choose to remain independent and all in the name of their "integrity" or whatever. I'm thinking they should just drop football altogether since they are no longer relevant. Some of the teams on their schedule need to be replaced with better competition. I get that they still play Navy because of how Navy bailed them out of closure during WWII but it's time to say your thank you and move on. I am expecting a hell and brimstone sermon now from Bobref.
  22. I'm sitting here wondering: who would win between Brownsburg and Cathedral? The reason I ask is Brownsburg has already beaten St X (in OT). Brownsburg is #2 in the 6A poll and #5 in the Sagarin ratings. Cathedral is #1 in the 5A poll BUT #2 in the Sagarin Ratings. So could Cathedral beat the team that beat St. X? I would think that Cathedral will be favored in this game with St. X. Then I look and see that week 9 is going to be the battle of the season as Cathedral will be at #1 and nationally ranked Center Grove. Wow, just wow! Hope that someone gets in touch with ESPN and has them broadcast the game. Not a fan of either team. Just a fan of high school football. And I believe Cathedral/Center Grove would be a great promotional game for the state of Indiana.
  23. That is freakin' awesome! Being a retired Navy man myself, how can I not like this kid? LOL I still hope the Miners win, though.
