I lived the 1950's and I know some things. Most folks of that era remember the "whites only" signs and the open hostility to those who were different. When I was in the US Army, one of my best friends was an African American and we were thrown out of a lot of places because of his color, and that was in the late 1960's Oh, he was a technical advisor for CBS News, but it just didn't matter in Louisville, KY. It lasted for a long time.
