  1. Maybe it's because Purdue is at home. I guess they could have played at night.
  2. Brownsburg 30, Irish 14. At least the Irish held the Bulldogs under 40 this season. Brownsburg is good. They took advantage of every Irish weaknesses.
  3. Bob, I was trying to defend Bob Lamey. I for one enjoyed him calling out officials when they clearly messed up. I also was thinking about Joe West and Angel Hernandez, among others, that played with their own set of rules for years without much criticism from announcers or their superiors. I happen to be a friend of Bob, well I used to be anyway, while he was the voice of the Indianapolis Racers.
  4. He's a good friend of mine. Oh, and I went to Cathedral with Dick Dullaghan.
  5. Lightning delay. Game to resume at Marian U at 12:30 tomorrow, weather permitting.
  6. IMO, that kind of attitude is why officiating will neve get any better. It seems they are subject to a different mindset. Players get penalized when they do something wrong, but officials never get the kind of publicity they deserve And I abhor homers, and there aren't as many as there used to be, but they're still a few around Nothing personal, just my own opinion!
  7. This should settle the early season #1. It's good for the Irish to get the Bulldogs away from their home field. Not a lot of visitor seating, but it hasn't been long since visitors had limited seating in Brownsburg.
  8. Not only am I a Lamey fan, I'm a Lamey friend. His talents were wasted with slow moving football. He was a natural born hockey announcer and earned the name Hockey Bob while he was the voice of the Indianapolis Racers of the WHA.
  9. Terry Taphorn spent 6 years as Irish DC, and revamped the Irish defense that Adam Barth still utilizes today. In fact Coach Tap was probably the best DC at both Ben Davis and Cathedral. It is good to have Doug Armstrong back and he showed that he will be a big addition to the already loaded Irish coaching staff. As I stated above, I believe the Irish staff is as good as any in the entire state.
  10. I was thinking the same thing. Cathedral at least should have been in the "others receiving votes" column.😉
  11. I still haven't seen the JV score. If anyone has this please post it.
  12. I have no likes left, but I like this post!
  13. I've seen a lot of Cathedral football since 1955. Papa Joe Dezelan would be quite proud of the Irish game plan last night. Papa Joe didn't like throwing the ball a lot. He would have loved the effort too.
  14. Bless you! JV score?
  15. Arlington just had too many upkeep problems. The field was not really as big an issue as some thought, but the infrastructure needed much work and proved too costly. It's a shame that Cathedral can't seem to have a home field.
  16. Thanks for your added viewpoint. Yes, the Irish played quite well, and it was good to get the Giants in week one. They will get much better with that much talent. The Giant QB looked like a good one, but their running game never got going. Hope to meet again in the Regional.
  17. Yes, Ben Davis was consensus #1.
  18. Cathedral 24, Ben Davis 6.
  19. Never underestimate the Irish coaching staff! They're as good as any staff in the state of Indiana. This score is not indicative of the closeness of the game. Ben Davis moved the ball, but their offense was held scoreless. The Irish played it a bit loose at the end of the game. Next up, Brownsburg at Marian University. It doesn't get any easier!
  20. I live on the westside, in fact I live only 2 miles from BD. My tickets are in hand and I'm anxious for gametime.
  21. Ironically Cathedral ended last season against Ben Davis and will play them the first game this season. It's the first tough test for the Irish with a schedule full of tough tests.
  22. I attended the Cathedral at Franklin Central scrimmage, and it sure was nice just being back in the stands. Both reams threw the ball a lot, which I found interesting. Normally it's just vanilla but the Flashes even tried a flea flicker tonight. The Flashes have a lot of speed and will win a lot of games this season.
  23. It's almost time to hit the sidelines.
  24. Cathedral will forever be 6A, and that's OK. The Irish play wherever they're placed.
  25. A couple of more thoughts on the game: I like football players with emotion. I thought Mahones was almost sleepwalking during the first half, but he got the juices flowing in the 2nd half and OT for sure. Kelce the same, he played better when the game was really on the line. I thought the 49er offensive line was terrific the whole game. The Chiefs barely laid a hand on Purdy all game, and the ground game from McCaffrey was exceptional. They just had some penalty and turnovers that cut their drives short. Also the Chief defense came up with some timely plays. My wife watched the entire game! It was a first for her in a long time. She used to attend games with me when we were younger, but not for many years now. I had a relative call from Florida, that lives on a busy street, and he said the traffic was as light as he'd seen it in his 10 years of living down there. I did have one female technician at the eye clinic that confessed she hadn't watched the game, but she was in the vast minority, or so it seemed.
