  1. To say the least it was an interesting weekend of college football this week. Lots of big time programs, notably Clemson and TCU, had trouble hanging onto the ball. Hats off to Prime Time for winning over TCU and Mike Elko for putting a whoopin' on Clemson. It was a fun weekend for sure.
  2. Should be nice and cool for this one. I just hope the Irish aren't overlooking the Trojans. Playing other Catholic schools is always an adventure.
  3. It will be homecoming for Cathedral and it will be a hard fought Catholic school battle. Also it looks like the weather will be good this Friday night.
  4. Cincinnati St. Xavier JV 10, Cathedral JV 3 Cathedral Freshman 19, Cincinnati St. Xavier Freshman 7
  5. Maybe just call the BIG the American Conference or the American League.
  6. I thought that was called back, but I stand corrected Final score, 35-6.
  7. Cathedral led 35-0 at halftime, thus the running clock in the 2nd half, and it was scoreless. The Irish won 35-0. There's still some things to clean up for the Irish, but they had fewer penalties and caught the ball tonight. Not much of a running game which is quite strange. Most of the running plays, except for the QB keeps, were right up the middle. If they had run outside guard it would have seemed like an end run. Bishop Chatard is up next back at AMS. The field was no factor tonight. Oh, and it's Cathedral's homecoming next week. Tonight was senior night which had to be early when the Irish only playing a couple games at "home.' I also want to thank Penn for coming down to play at AMS twice in the last four years, and I wish them well the rest of the season.
  8. And the Colts cut Emil Ekiyor earlier in the week. I sure hope he can catch on and play somewhere.
  9. To further recap the Brownsburg game, the Bulldogs receivers made more catches in double and triple teaming than I've seen in a long time. Hats off to them for that. The Irish DB's need to spot the ball better and make some plays. It's a beautiful September day here in Indianapolis. Of course every Friday night is beautiful this time of the year! I hope to see a lot of Irish fans tonight at AMS! Gametime is 7:30 BTW.
  10. I can't find the JV and Freshman scores from yesterday. If someone knows the scores. please post 'em.
  11. Sam Hartman is pretty good!
  12. The grass field at Arlington is as well kept as possible. Unless it rains it's still a fast track, or it seems to be for the Irish anyway. I'm working from memory, but the one turning point happened at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. The Irish defense holds the Bulldogs to 3 and out, and on the first play Danny O'Neil runs for 8 yards. Instead of going for the first down, O'Neil throws two long passes that had very little chance of completion. It seemed like the 3rd quarter went downhill for the Irish after that. The Irish have two good running backs, Jalen Bonds and Desare Thomas, but they only had about 10 carries between 'em last night. And the game scheme was quite basic, not much misdirection, if any. I was surprised at that. And it seemed that O'Neil had time to throw all night, but just wasn't seeing the field well. He threw more into double, or even triple, coverage more than I've ever seen him. After all that, I believe both teams will be a factor come playoff time.
  13. It was almost a carbon copy of last year at Brownsburg. You just can't give breaks to a good team like Brownsburg. A lot of penalties, dropped passes and missed open receivers ain't gonna win a lot of games. Brownsburg is going to be tough to beat this season, but I hope the Irish get another shot at them in late October or early November! BTW, the weather wasn't all that bad. It was quite comfortable after the sun went down.
  14. Yeah, if you're going to change it make it a full hour. Oh well, that's more than I expected.
  15. I guess nothing has changed for this game. I have not received, nor can I find, any change from the 7PM start. I still can't remember why or when gametimes changed from 8PM to 7PM. It makes more sense for a later start for all games, imho.
  16. Those towers are actually Central Soya, where I worked for a few days when I was quite young. They housed a bunch of beans. I'm not sure they're still in business. I found the history of Central Soya: Central Soya Company, Inc. - Company Profile, Information, Business Description, History, Background Information on Central Soya Company, Inc. (referenceforbusiness.com)
  17. I still remember those days whenever I drive by whatever CYO Field is called today. That game in that picture must have been an out of town school, or a non Cathedral game. That must be a CYO jamboree picture on second thought. I also played CYO ball my 8th grade year on that field. It was hard! I caught a pass for about a 3 yard gain that day.
  18. CYO Field was grass at the beginning of the season, but not much was left at the end of the season. With Cathedral, Scecina and Sacred Heart all playing home games on that field, and Cadet football on Sundays, it got used up pretty badly. Varsity games were played on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in those days. Field Turf is not as hot as the original Astro-Turf and some of the artificial "grass" that was on fields in the early days. Field Turf is quite "grasslike" nowadays in fact.
  19. IMO, and I'm just a viewer and not an all in fan, is that he was injured last year and he needs to have a good final contract year to prove that he deserves elite money. He's an asset when healthy. I think Irsay has dealt with him on an honest basis.
