  1. A relegation system can't work with a geographically flawed all-in, unseeded tournament.
  2. Jett ('26) is the son of Jon Goldsberry ('00) who wrestled, played at Purdue as a FB/LB/ST. He then played for the Bills (and Bucs I think) in the NFL. Jon's brother's name is Zach ('02). Was a starting E/CB on the 2000 team. He wrestled at UIndy. Their father Tom was an amazing football player and track athlete at South Spencer in the late 70s/80s. He played in college too, but forgive me for not knowing the full bio. Tom coached interior DL until Zach's senior year. He was a big teddy bear and one of "the favorite" personas and coaches during the Bob Clayton era. He sadly passed away about a decade ago, way too young, but with a lasting legacy.
  3. Faces and playmakers for Chatard? I'm trying to think how many HH athletes have multiple state finals appearance... Goldsberry already with wrestling and football (assuming he plays...) Not sure if his uncle made state in wrestling. 🐢
  4. I'll try to find it... I think I like the idea of having a Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, East Central and Columbus East home and away series... So much success and history with those four teams in Southern Indiana ... great opening weekend! Anyway, I've said too much. No one wants anything to do with East Central this year. Respect!
  5. I'll try to gather some figures this evening. I can start with 2001, when 4A state champion Jasper's only loss was to Heritage Hills. Chatard beat Roncalli or Cathedral how many times it also won 3A? There were some 3A Memorial teams which I believe also bested Reitz in the same years. I swear it's true. 👍
  6. I am the official Memorial spokesman. So, yes. Anyway, I recall Coach Hurley saying something to this effect around 2017.
  7. Creampuffs? Many years the 3A state champion has beaten the 4A state champion. Memorial is on record as saying 3A has been harder than 4A.
  8. Let's do Top PAC Teams of All Time and an All Time PAC Position Team this off-season!
  9. North Posey, you're too slow to compete in this one. Back to pickin melons!
  10. Ben Davis (104.61) is a 14-point favorite vs. Crown Point (90.77) and has about a 74.31% chance of winning (0-point home-field advantage). Now, I can clarify that I didn't use the homefield advantage for these games.
  11. The biggest thing that has separatedv the success of recent HH teams and those of the past is perfection. I was a bit worried that we had lost the recipe for success. We were winning but not dominating. I really like looking at the sidelines now and it is full of former coaches, teammates, and fellow alum. People like Coach Winchell coming back is the excellence needed and expected. (Yes watch out... HH will have a Goldsberry and Winchell on the same field for three years after this.) There's no team I'd rather have to match up with in the state championship than Bishop Chatard.
  12. And here are the predictions, using Jeff Sagarin's Predictor Rating, for the 2023 state championship games! Predict a Matchup Tool CLASS A Indy Lutheran (80.71) is a 2-point favorite vs. Adams Central (78.51) and has about a 54.21% chance of winning. CLASS 2A North Posey (70.4) is a 8.5-point favorite vs. FW Luers (62.02) and has about a 65.55% chance of winning. CLASS 3A Indy Chatard (87.92) is a 10.5-point favorite vs. Heritage Hills (77.67) and has about a 68.71% chance of winning. CLASS 4A East Central (100.91) is a 20-point favorite vs. NorthWood (80.93) and has about a 82.25% chance of winning. CLASS 5A FW Snider (86) is a 1.5-point favorite vs. Decatur Central (84.7) and has about a 52.49% chance of winning. CLASS 6A Ben Davis (104.61) is a 14-point favorite vs. Crown Point (90.77) and has about a 74.31% chance of winning.
  13. Gotta see what wife No. 1 says. We are currently paying Harvard Kennedy a sizeable monthly payment for grad school, so what's another grad degree and some others in 18 years?
  14. (From her:) I am reading it with my friend from Santa Claus, hunny. We have a lot to talk about tonight. Soon to be Ms Dumfries
  15. Whichever... teams are not people. Even if you were to use who/whom, it should be whoever ... it is replacing the subject. Also "lastly" because it is an adverb. Last is an adjective, so... "Whichever has the last ball (will win)"
  16. Was this the year we had rain leading up to Friday then rain on Friday and Saturday so several games had to be made up on Monday? I seem to be associating a 4-3 game with that season. ETA: How was the game archived? Cassette? When did you switch over to a digital recorder?
  17. There are no mountains in Indiana unless you count Paoli Peaks of course. Surely someone from Chatard?
  18. I think 4-2 and 5-4 would be the only more rare scores statistically... 2-0, then anytime a team scores 29
  19. Let's discuss the first game today. If they didn't rematch, Gibson probably just watches the first half and teaches what happens when you let off the gas. I think Heritage Hills reliedon the big play too much but that has kind of been their modus operandi.
  20. Bordering schools meet in state every year almost. HH has played and won enough games in southeastern Indiana to be considered "Eastern." I believe we got the two best teams in 3A playing against each other. Seems like a pretty good system.
  21. Sagarin's Predictor: Westfield (94.26) is a 2.5-point favorite vs. Crown Point (89.94) and has about a 54.5% chance of winning (1.97-point home-field advantage). Last updated: 2023 November 11 Saturday 17:35:16.345 Central Standard Time = GMT/UTC-06:00
  22. Sagarin's Predictor: Leo (81.81) is a 4.5-point favorite vs. NorthWood (79.4) and has about a 58.33% chance of winning (1.97-point home-field advantage). Last updated: 2023 November 11 Saturday 17:35:16.345 Central Standard Time = GMT/UTC-06:00
