temptation Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Ben Davis @ Avon: Two teams I picked to win last week whose openers resulted in disappointment. Expected "some" growing pains at BD, but to nearly get shut out on your homefield is concerning. Thought Avon was farther along but maybe I am underestimating Lafayette Jeff. I think BD gets back on track a bit here and wins going away, 27-10. Carmel @ Westfield: Last year I called this game a "changing of the guard" and Westfield earned the win. The 'Rocks had a huge road win against CG last week, handing the Trojans just their second home loss since COVID. They have to be wary of a let down. I think this one has all the makings of a classic. Westfield wins 23-17. Carroll (Fort Wayne) @ Center Grove: A brutal open to the season for the Chargers though scheduling these games early will help them late. CG let an early lead slip away against Westfield last week and though I don't really buy into much of the "emotional aspect" of high school football, you think I am crazy enough to pick against CG here? Long ride back for Carroll. CG wins 34-14. Lawrence Central @ Zionsville: Both teams coming out of backyard brawls with losses in week 1 and wins are going to be hard to come by when looking at their remaining schedules. Both teams desperate for a win here. I'll take LC 24-20. Lawrence North @ Fort Wayne North: The Wildcats make the trek up I-69 to take on North Side in a game I expect them to win. Won't be "that easy" as the Legends had a solid week 1 win over Northridge. LN wins 35-17. North Central @ Hamilton Southeastern: The Panthers made the final score look respectable last week after getting down early against Fishers. HSE went on the road and put it to a good Carroll team. This one won't be close. HSE 49-7. Pike @ Fishers: Nice win for Pike last week and I think the Red Devils are improved and could surprise a couple of teams this year. But not this week. Fishers wins 38-14. Warsaw @ Warren Central: No disrespect intended as Warsaw could make a deep run in 5A but this one is simply a numbers game. A see another shut out for the Warriors. WC wins 30-0. What say you? Quote

The thing about North Side, when you punch them, they punch back. They don't care that they don't have much history backing them. They wanna play football. This is a typical 6A vs 5A (almost 4A) game. One has more resources than the other. LN will be too much. Ditto on the score. Quote

Let’s re-visit this, I thought the game was at Carroll originally and about 2 weeks ago you gave me a mulligan on that. After week one play, it was very apparent that Carroll is not who we thought they were, hence my saying if I hate picking week 1 games as we have no visual data on teams at that point. Having said all that, CG is coming off a surprising loss at home and Carroll was steamrolled at home by HSE. I think that CG is going to be fired up and that will spell trouble for Carroll. If somehow Carroll pulls off a shocker, it will be crickets from me about calling for the upset previously 2 Quote
LC_Bears_04 Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Ben Davis should respond from their disappointing loss to Cathedral with a beatdown of Avon. Carmel at Westfield: Westfield proved they are a state title contender with a win a Center Grove last week. Normally, this is a spot for a letdown. However, every team in Hamilton County gets up to play Carmel. If Carmel couldn't beat Westfield the previous 2 seasons, they sure as hell aren't doing it this season. Westfield avoids a letdown and wins by 14-17 points. Carroll at Center Grove: Carroll got ran over figuratively and literally by Hamilton SE. And now they have to play a pissed off Center Grove team. If HSE can run through Carroll, so should Center Grove's wing-T offense. Center Grove cruises by 21-28 points. LC at Zionsville: LC only lost to LN by 7. Zionsville wasn't competitive against Pike. LC should win by about 7 points. LN blows out Fort Wayne North. Hamilton SE blows out North Central. Pike at Fishers: Pike showed signs of improvement last week against Zionsville. Fishers had a dominant first half against North Central. Fishers wins by 10 points. Warsaw at Warren Central: I don't see how Warsaw is gonna run the ball on Warren's defense. Warren's offense has also had a week to get the kinks out. Warren Central wins by 17-21 points. Quote

Warren Central Warrior Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Well, I'm half/half on the MIC so far. Pike pulled off an impressive win over Fishers this afternoon. Warren Central pitched another shutout last night 34-0 over Warsaw. Ben Davis could've won, but Avon won in overtime 29-28. The defending Class 6A champions are 0-2. Quote

Ben Davis made a lot of mistakes. Got down 14-0 and 21-7. They finally got the offense rolling in the fourth. Forced overtime only to lose on a well-designed two-point conversion. The offense is still struggling. Can't figure out why. Too many holds and hankies on the field, too. With the way Pike is playing....who knows? I think the Giants will figure it out at some point, but I clearly didn't expect seven-consecutive scoreless quarters on offense to start the year. Credit to Coach Gibson and Avon. They were the aggressors for most of the night(s). Edited September 1, 2024 by BDGiant93 Quote

BDGiant93 Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 It should also be noted that Coach Brevard has assembled a laundry list of former Ben Davis players and assistants helping him/coaching with him at Pike. Pretty impressive. I am really happy for Pike. I just can't cheer for them this week. Quote
