adambetz Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Adams Central (12-1) @ Andrean (9-4) Andrean with a much tougher schedule, although AC mostly handled business except against 3A regional champ Garrett. You'd think Andrean will come in with a size and speed advantage, but don’t count out AC's scheming. A squad that spent recent years in 3A against a squad that spent recent years in 1A. I think this will be fun. Linton-Stockton (11-2) @ Indianapolis Lutheran (12-1) Can Linton defend through the air? That's the key in this one. Lutheran can taste a 4-peat. Both squads played Monrovia and won. Lutheran had no trouble in two attempts and Linton had a bit of trouble but won 22-20 on week two. Quote
WWFan Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Seen Lutheran QB broke his hand sectional title game and didn't play against Lapel. Does that change things for Linton? Quote

If you get the ball anywhere near the WR's they have a great chance to pull it down. Their QB also does not play defense. If you thought Brownstown was fast, Lutheran is faster. They seem to have that "city speed" I have read about on here before! Lord I apologize for that. 😅🤣 1 2 Quote

Monrovia @ Linton was 22-7 at half and Linton could not really adjust in the second half to Monrovia's adjustments. The team really did not have much of an identity either. I would say after about week 4, they started to trust a bit more and know who they are. With that being said, Linton was coming off a very "humbling" defeat to probably the best high school team I may have ever seen in person, especially at a small school level. Once again, Linton will not come into this game afraid by any means. Not many gave them a shot outside of the community last week and the same can be said for this week. I will definitely not give a score prediction, but I think this one will be closer than a lot of people think. Quote

Does that change things for Linton? Would love to have Jackson Willis available to finish a stellar career as a 3-year starter. However, Mason Shrum (6-1" Jr) has been patiently been waiting for his chance, and took full advantage Friday (14-18, 190 yds, 3 TDs). It's certainly a challenge to take your first meaningful snaps in the sectional final, but he's played well. Lutheran QBs have historically not played defense. Even in the single years when other skill guys have had to step in (Andre Jones 2017, Tez Clay 2021), their defensive snaps dropped. That certainly helps. Quote
Miner_Pride Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I am only now recovering from Friday's Linton win. But I do know Lutheran will be heavy favorite. Linton will have hands and legs and guts full dealing with Lutheran Speed and Passing attack. We've been in this position before with the Saints. It's just awesome to still be playing.... 1 Quote

Miner_Pride Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Linton will absolutely need pressure on the QB and not let him slip out ala Greencastle's QB.... With all that speed and talent on Lutheran's receiving corps I can't expect to cover them while the QB scrambles. Obviously there have been concerns there. The South Vermillion game was how we will have to come out.. but I think Lutheran is a different talent level all together. Our Kids won't back down...not in their nature, and they won't give up if they get down. We will have to be able to move the chains, eat the clock and get scores to offset Lutheran's offense. I know they can run as well....I feel good about our run D. I know the weather is likely gonna be a factor. I will be in he broadcast booth.. my first trip to Lutheran. Quote

I'm amazed how Noah Bryant had 176 yards rushing in Monrovia's 1st meeting and then had 48 in their sectional meeting. It does appear that they have been healthy on offense from what I could tell since early in the season with the current exception of Willis. Lots of size and speed on display. Something we are used to seeing off and on over the years. We are no slouches either as I thought last week proved we had some pretty good speed ourselves. On thing I notice was the number of players on Lutheran's roster. I believe it is it around 44? I saw several players going both ways on film. Lutheran hasn't had to play any real meaningful minutes in the 4th quarter since the Triton Central game. Linton has had to play meaningful 4th quarter minutes several times this season. That could be key if it comes down to the 4th quarter or it could mean diddly squat. 😄 Lutheran is definitely the favorite for a reason. If we can get pressure and limit the passing game, we have a good shot. If they are able to pass at will, we could be in for a long night. The same can be said for Linton too. If we are able to get the passing game going, it makes the game much more interesting. Of course, that will be easier said than done due to the wind that is suppose to be around tomorrow. I expect a good hard hitting game. 16 minutes ago, jets said: HEY - happy to see MINER PRIDE back on the forum! I was happy to see them both end up in 3A. 😄 Although I do miss the battles we had with you guys. Quote
260AC Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 I'm surprised by the amount of people picking AC to win on the gridiron pickem/ around the state. I'm pretty sure if AC wins this game it would probably be the biggest program win outside of the state championship they won, no offense to NJSP. Look at Monroe on a map. Go Jets! 1 Quote

From a p/p vs public standpoint, would love to see the Jets get to Lucas Oil and get a rematch against Lutheran if they can pull it out against Linton. How many times have two teams been bumped up a class from success factor(I understand AC was going to be there anyway with enrollment but still) and still find a way to meet each other again in the state championship? That is cool. From a selfish standpoint, if Andrean wins that's one step closer to them being in 3A which is where I personally think they belong. Either way, I think this is going to be a great game won in the trenches on Friday night. Gonna root more for the Jets on Friday night. Go public schools! Quote

Willis was evidently injured late in 1sthalf in the Monnrovia Sectional game. The 2nd half saw Shrum play, and then again last week against Lapel. Willis has undergone surgery on his throwing hand. Shrum was 13 0f 17 for 201 with 3 TD passes in the 35-0 win over Lapel. Willis is widely considered one of the best QBs in the state and had big time numbers: 134 of 171 for 2,633 Yards…that’s a 78.4% completion rate. 39 TD passes and only 3 Interceptions. Add to that 7 rushing touchdowns on 51 carries for 277 yards. That put him 3rd in rushing behind the other weapon the Saints possess; D’Marco Wilson. He has 20 TDs and 1700 yards on 187 carries, 9.1 yds per game. Not bad for not having a single carry in 2023! He replaced Braydon Hall and his 2,117 yards and 32 TDs! Willis has been the starter for three years, throwing for 4,186 yards and 55 TDs as a sophomore. Wilson has 7 100+ rush games, of those three are 250+ with a high of 262 on 25 carries against Heritage Christian. The only other guy with any action at RB was Ridner #15. 323 yards on 58 carries 2 TDs. He did have 175 yards, 25 carries in week 2’s win over South Putnam. Wilson had 5 carries so I assume he had injury in the game. Lutheran runs a 4 wide spread offense with QB in shotgun, single back. Two receivers with 30+ catches: #6 Hazelwood 32-590 6TD and #1 Ward 35-601 11TD. #21 Jones has started most of the year and had 12-221-3. #85 Mills 22-479-8 and #8 Clark 18-397-6. #11 Cooper has 19-412-4. Wilson adds 11 catches for 179 4 TDs as well. So lots of targets all with tremendous speed. Shrum just needs to put the ball out there. Ward had 6 catches for 176 yards and 4 TDs against Speedway. Hazelwood 9-167 vs Monrovia. In those other 12 games they allow 205.0 yards per game. 88.3 ground 116.7 air. Monrovia has 269 rushing yards in their midseason meeting. Heritage Christian 242 passing yards. Only 2 opponents had individual 100 yard rushing games- Eric Montgomery of Scecina 104, and Noah Bryant 176 from Monrovia. The above lineup was from Lapel. VS Monrovia, a run based opponent, they used a 4 front lineup with #63 Hicks at DT, and three DBs Ward, Hazelwood and Jones. #33 Garrison seems to alternate with Luna-Nix, as well as #13 Scearce. #85 Mills leads in tackles with 129, #76 McHaney 98 from DT (22 TFL 12 sacks). #66 Lecher is 3d with 88, #6 Hazelwood from safety with 87, then #77 Kennerk with 78, including 17 for loss and 8 sacks.
