It's easy to throw a guy under the bus when he loses to Marshall in year one. Even eaiser when he loses to NIU in year two. There won't be any "fire Freeman" talk if ND loses to Purdue in year three. Freeman is young, he's going to get better, players love him, and there's not a program in the country who wouldn't want him to be their head coach. 

For sure. Jack knew that the opportunity cost of losing Freeman's potential to LSU, then likely some other program, would vastly exceed the cost of Freeman potentially flaming out as a first time head coach because, if nothing else, the recruiting was expected to improve. 

There was a lot of overreaction from the fanbase to some of the losses through the first two years. Objectively, Notre Dame's offense was easy to defend, and Freeman had a lot to learn. 

I hated the loss to NIU, but the more concerning thing for me––what had me wondering if it was going to work out––was Freeman was clearly trying to figure out who to act like instead of just being himself. He made a lot of strange comments in pregame and postgame interviews, and I think the pressure of the job was getting to him. In a funny way, that loss to NIU might have given him the freedom to be himself since his back was all the way up against the wall.

Again, Coach Freeman had a tough learning curve, but one thing he's done, and it's big, is bring back team spirit to Notre Dame football.  It's been gone for a long time and now it's back.  Can't wait 'til Thursday night!

It's less than two hours to the first semi!  The Irish had their customary 7 day turnaround and Penn State had a couple of extra days due to the schedule and the unforeseen circumstances.  I believe that won't have much bearing on this game.  Both teams know how big this one is.

Notre Dame seems a bit off. Makes sense though coming off a big win over the SEC champs.

Decent drive to finish the half; would have liked a TD, but the Irish get the ball to start the half. I like having Angeli in, don't like that Leonard got hurt, but Angeli is a much better passer.

Maybe that'll open up the run game? I think Angeli might be ND's best shot in the second half. I think the biggest piece to this is Penn State's lack of preperation for Angeli.

Phew. There we go boys!  MUCH needed. Angeli is MVP for ND so far. His relief in a pinch was HUGE and gave the Irish much needed momentum.  Keep it rolling.
