Can Purdue find an offense in the transfer portal?: https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/purdue/2024/12/10/purdue-football-roster-transfer-portal-offense-needs-help-wanted-everywhere-barry-odom/76811737007/?tbref=hp

Purdue football coach Barry Odom may have a defensive background, but he’ll need to lay a new offensive foundation with the Boilermakers.

The mediocrity of 2023 gave way to the misery of 2024. Purdue ranked among the nation’s worst teams in scoring (134th out of 134), first downs (133), plays of 30-plus yards (130th) and third down percentage (129th).

Consistency, explosiveness, physicality — Odom needs to upgrade essentially every aspect of the offense. That’s true regardless of whether highly thought of offensive coordinator Brennan Marion comes with him and brings his trademark “Go Go” offense.

The portal is open, so what better way to start the off season topic with the initial entries. You can click on the current school logo to the right to see all the entries from that program. Who is next to strike it rich? Who will bust. IU relied on it pretty heavily, but so did Florida State.

Clicked on the link this morning. Nice to see that it updates each day.

If guys on playoff qualifying teams’ rosters entering the transfer portal isn’t a sure fire sign of Armageddon, I don’t know what is…

Watching the Fox pregame shows Sunday, and when asked their thoughts, Edelman, Brady, AND Gronk all laughed at the thought of him as the head coach of a college team. They took a few jabs at what may happen as well in certain situations. The upside in this era of college football is bringing in a guy who has experience running a pro team including being a GM. And now we all know he is good at recruiting young talent. 🤣 What I do NOT see him doing well is kissing up to the wealthy alums. He has been so used to doing his own thing without being questioned.

So many places I could have posted this one, but chose here since the guy will be playing next season. It does lead me to thinking, how many guys will choose to stay longer in college now? Potential for better or equal pay; avoid being drafted by the Bears or the Browns.

May be an image of 2 people, people playing football and text that says 'Trevor Lawrence Cartersville High School Cam Rising 2017 Clemson University N Newbury Park High School 2018 Clemson University University of Texas 2019 Clemson University University of Utah 2020 Jacksonville Jaguars University of Utah 2021 Jacksonville Jaguars University of Utah 2022 Jacksonville Jaguars University of Utah 2023 Jacksonville Jaguars University of Utah 2024 Will probably still play for the Jaguars University of Utah 2025 Eligible for another season in college @BROOKSGATE'

Rumor I heard is that he is thinking of coming back and Texas said they wanna see what Manning has instead.

I read the same. Wasn’t sure of the accuracy of this…can teams make offers known BEFORE a player enters the portal?

I believe that’s called tampering.  Miami already doing it with the freshman WR at OSU.

Just crazy to me that these discussions are taking place when teams are preparing for the playoff.

There are currently over 2,000 players in the portal. Rosters are going to be cut to 105 players for the upcoming season. The current limit is 120. How many players end up with nowhere to go? One interesting thing that came up last night was the OSU backup QB has entered, but still on the team. The decision to keep a player on the team or not is up to the schools......seemed a bit odd to me.

You mean guys in a winner take all who punt from midfield down 3 possessions with under 10 minutes to go?

Lol.  I didn’t say that, but I listened to his post game answer about that and he was very honest as to why.  Give it a listen.  Would bet it’s on YouTube.

“Our defense was fighting.”

correct me if I am wrong, but your probability of scoring points and getting back in the game is much higher with your offense on the field than it is with your defense.

As it eventually played out, correct.

It seems to me we are on the cusp of losing that which has made college football unique. Instead, the game is rapidly becoming a watered down version of the NFL: a minor league of pro football, with free agency, bidding wars, player holdouts, and everything that comes along when it becomes less about sport and more of a business transaction. I’ll still watch it because I love football. But the players are more and more looking at it like a job, rather than a game. And to me, that’s sad.

I sure can't disagree with that!
