wabashalwaysfights Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Well this has been... something. I feel like WR is razor thin as a position group now and LB isnt too far behind. Im guessing the plan is to address those in the draft. Honestly, trading Franklin hurts more than Pitt I think. Quote

Still have Pierce obviously, Downs, and Warren, realistically you need a #2 receiver from the draft and you are okay. At LB, again you can find something in the draft. If you watch tape on Franklin, yes he has a lot of tackles per year but if you watch his run fits from a coach perspective you aren't losing much. Both him and Leonard were not very good at attacking the open windows and gaps. Overran a lot of plays allowing for cut backs. The one thing I did think Franklin was better than Leonard at was pass coverage. Pratt played very well after we picked him up through the season last year. I think we have him and you draft a guy to play alongside him to learn from and we will be okay. A healthy Buckner and Stewart can make mediocre LB play look a heck of a lot better. Quote

Hopefully the Ohio State guy we drafted last year in round 2 comes back from his injury and lives up to what he is supposed to be. I believe the name is Tuimoliau or something like that. 1 Quote

I will grant you the above and as evidence, if you check the stats over the past 4 years, Franklin was top 5 in tackles from 2022 to 2024, the same years Stewart and Buckner we fully healthy whereas this year he was well down that list. Counterpoint: Pratt had/has more experience in Anorumo's (spell check please) system, which is perhaps more the reason Franklin's numbers dipped this year. I guess my thing is this: production is production and while a guy like Franklin may not be in perfect run fit position on every snap, I think he'll be tough to replace, especially if you're relying on the draft. You're spot on. I think the trade off for cap space and what you could get in the draft was greater than what Franklin brings to the table. Good LB absolutely, game changer no not really. The Colts must have thought he wasn't worth the $6 million this year and the $8 million the following. I would agree, but it wouldn't be hard to argue the other way as well. Quote
wabashalwaysfights Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I would agree 100% on cap space: it seems like that was a big part of moving on from Pittman too, which is unfortunate. Quote
Bash Riprock Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Looking like Colts and Jones agree on a 2 year deal for $88M. https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/daniel-jones-colts-reportedly-agree-to-2-year-88-million-contract-extension-152222956.html Quote
Irishman Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Interesting move. Kind of surprised at the number of big men at various colleges that don't make the NBA who could have transitioned to football. Luke Harangody was another from Notre Dame that I thought should have gone that route. Antonio Gates is the one I always think of when I see a move like this. Quote
Coach Nowlin Posted March 18 Posted March 18 The Antonio Gates move Seemed to work out ok there 🙂 1 Quote

Both very productive NFL tights ends....not at the Gates level, but excellent ROI players. 2 Quote
Coach Nowlin Posted March 18 Posted March 18 I wonder if Mo Allie Cox was on that VCU team with Shaka that beat Purdue in Sweet 16 at the United Center, then went on to beat Florida St I think who knocked off Notre Dame, I was in attendance Quote

I remember going through VCU athletic dept to get the S16 tickets. Just like I did this year going though IOWA's Athletic Dept to buy face value for Boiler road trip 1 Quote

Lol A side note to the Harangody “hypothesis”. His brother (I believe maybe @Bobref can fact check this from memory) Ty was a stud TE/H-back at Andrean and IU. Quote

Dave Harangody was a tight end at Whiting and IU in the late 1970s. 2 Quote

Irishman Posted March 19 Posted March 19 And Luke spent most of his time in the D League; including here in Fort Wayne when the Mad Ants were still here. Quote
Coach Nowlin Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I think at the end of the day, Colts nation will be sad not to be drafting in the 1st round NEXT YEAR. Be interesting to see who could have been tonight and next year Quote

Coach Nowlin Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Listen if SAUCE truly locks it back down and can take care of what ever side he plays and or flips to their #1 and truly locks down then all will be good trade imo. If he continues to not stay healthy and become just pedestrian in his cover skills then yes, that salt is going to sting Quote

Jets had a solid 1st round draft last night with 3 picks Quote
