I wouldn't be upset about a voter rewarding BYU for playing in the game. Although we know ND would probably beat them by 4 touchdowns. It will be interesting to see what they do. I think ND's stock went way up after seeing the performances of Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. Notre Dame's 3pt loss on the road at Miami is starting to look pretty impressive. I just look at the poll as it stands right now and wonder how they aren't the 6th ranked team in the country...........from a poll perspective. If you ask me, they fall somewhere after IU along side Oregon, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Miami. So between 2-6.

I got A&M and Ohio State ahead of the Irish so 9th at best

The Irish would still be favorites against James Madison and Tulane.

Spread? I'm thinking 28 points. But that's something everyone already knows. The fair thing to do is to the the Group of Five their own tournament. Kids playing in those leagues will never have a chance at a championship in the current format.

Does final Ranking in any Poll matter to anyone who is a fan of football or basketball for the Professional collegiate level?

I know for my team that I love and follow, their final AP/Coaches Ranking in March means nothing to me personally in my fandom

So for this discussion, does final ND ranking if there is one, (which I think their used be, but that was BCS days) change anything for you ND fans?   Like more Pride?  More Anger?   Patches for letter Jacket that @Bobref still has 🙂

It's intriguing due to the amount of news of Notre Dame not getting into the playoff garnered. Wondering where pollsters now see Notre Dame after watching Miami beat Ohio State and reach the final four (maybe further). After watching an unimpressive game between Alabama and Georgia, then an absolute clobbering of The Tide at the hands of a Big Ten school. After watching the SEC, with five playoff representatives, get utterly embarrassed in the bowl season. Yeah, I'm curious where the AP puts them now that everyone has seen first hand how badly the committee got it wrong.

AP voters who don't pay attention collectively as is, will look to see ND didn't choose to play a game, so those who did will naturally get a bump if they won, in the minds of an AP voter......  just my guess

Is what it is. Normally for me, the only thing that matters is the national champion. They are the only team that will be remembered. This year was just fascinating how Notre Dame was Top 9 until they weren't. Then the opt out of a bowl game followed by Miami's dominance and the SEC laying an egg. I'm just curious how high a non-participant could climb. But I get where it could be "meaningless" for the average fan.

As a resident of Indiana though, it's pretty cool to see the rise of a program that carries our brand. Indiana is now a football state. A few years ago when I saw that Indiana was ranked 13th in terms of producing football talent, that was a real eye opener. I also think the Indy Metro area could compete with any metro area in the country. That's pretty telling if you ask me.

Sidenote: Wouldn't be surprised one iota if Indiana and Notre Dame enter the playoffs next season ranked #1 & #2 in the AP Poll. Things are looking pretty good for both programs........especially Indiana. They are the new Alabama, plain and simple, no other way to slice it. Pre-mature prediction? I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

Thoughts? Penn State and Iowa? I was thinking after watching these playoffs that maybe Penn State and Iowa may have provided some much needed competition.

1 Indiana A = 98.06 14 0 74.48( 30) 3 0 | 6 0 | 95.69 1 | 97.73 2 | 101.27 1 | 109.16 1 BIG TEN (A)

News?  Most of what I read was in social media from ND fans angry and each week of the playoffs stating ND could have easily beaten the teams that have been knocked out during the playoffs.  I am not sure I call that "news".  That being said, I don't disagree about the debate with Bama and Oklahoma.  I agree that the SEC got way "too much love".  But, hindsight always is 20-20.

Rankings at any time at any level mean nothing. As was obvious when picking teams for the CFP. 3 of the top 4 ranked teams didn't even show up.

C'mon. It was everywhere. Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit...........Charles Barkley on a basketball show. How can you say it was "just" Notre Dame fans? Lol, good grief. I'm not on Twitter like you are, but I do watch ESPN and listen to College Sports on Sirius when I'm driving. The Notre Dame discussion was log jammed on that channel for a week. I find it hard to believe that it wasn't on Twitter as well. You reposted several tweets disparaging Notre Dame. Although the purpose of your tweets were to antagonize Notre Dame fans, it was still news nonetheless.

If you say so….I am confused. You’ve blasted ESPN repeatedly for being in bed with the SEC and influencing the CFP (I agree by the way) and you are using the 2 biggest voices from ESPN college football making the case for ND?  That doesn’t seem inconsistent to you??

I follow social media and ND fans have indeed been brutal, each week of the CFB. That’s not antagonizing, that’s pure fact. I understand disappointment…I don’t agree with people constantly attacking other programs, always taking a victim approach without acknowledging the team did have opportunities to control its own destiny.

An example….

Who's smoking Cignetti? I think most of the Notre Dame fans on here have been pretty gracious toward IU.

Curious. What does ESPN being in bed with the SEC have to do with some of their commentary favoring Notre Dame? Last I checked, it was the network that's in bed with the SEC. Guys like Herbstreit, Barkley, and Saban are allowed to have an opinion.

Again, I don't get on Twitter, so I don't know what some random ND fans are saying about other programs. I worry about my own life and use this forum as an outlet to discuss football. You have to admit though, some of your reposts are geared toward playing on others emotions and reeling them in.

Where do you think they should fall in AP?  #2?   Top 10?  #13?

I don’t think it matters. Thought I said that once.
Anything different than the regular season ending poll would be hypothetical in re ND.
Bring on 2026. Until then, I’m cheering for IU.

I hope some of you have been watching the FCS Championship game. Illinois State has come back from being down 21-7 to a tie late against the 2nd ranked Montana State. Illinois State is coached by Brock Spack, former DC at Purdue under Joe Tiller. They have been a road underdog the entire post season and even knocked off the number 1 team at North Dakota State. Illinois State was driving for a game winning FG but had it blocked. Montana State was in great field position. A sack and a bad snap got them to 4th and 28, so that took them out of FG range. Going to OT now.

Posted

Illinois State gets the ball first in OT, and gets a quick score. the PAT was blocked. The kicker had to make a tackle to keep MSU from putting points on the board. I am not sure how that works out in college OT?
MSU gets the ball, decent gain on first down, but a procedure call and a sack back them up to 4th and 10. ISU sends the house, but the MSU QB, starting just his 11th college game as a true freshman, finds a receive open in the end zone to tie it and the PAT wins it.

Huge props to Coach Spack and the Illinois State program on a great run.

Sorry I missed it. I don't stay awake for those late games. Presumed Montana State would roll when they went into halftime up 21-7. Even more exciting than the FBS, the Group of Five would make for some entertaining games during the week while waiting for the CFP on the weekend. More revenue for everyone, right?

Hey, the fella in the this thread asked questions, so I asked him where he thought they should be........

You see, I quoted @23andCounting and asked where you think they should fall, it was in same post where I corrected the term "twitter" for the term "X" because that is the appropriate way to talk about that social media platform, since you find the need to correct all things that are misspelled, grammar , etc, I wanted your approval if I did it correctly, then posed the question about ND

Then you go:  "WHO".  I Said "ND" as in the theme of the questions posted by 23.......

Then you go, It doesn't matter as you said you already stated your stance, but in reality, I was still asking 23

Hope that clears up the "confusing"

SO 23..... where would you think your team should be appropriately placed in a poll that means nothing in a few weeks??

Not all things. I fixed that for ya. It really amazes me that people get so butthurt when someone corrects their spelling. I guess it's part of the dumbing down of America.
