Stupid is as stupid does. Not surprised - but am really starting to question the integrity of the process/committees. How some of the people I've met have sat on important committees ...I guess this is what people mean when they say "old boys club" and "have's and have-not's?" and all that??

Anyway ...

Two things stick out to me.

1. They put 7 teams in Sectional 31 and 8 in 32.  If I am not mistaken, but Heritage Hills earned 2 points last year by winning the 4A Regional.  If they win sectional 24 this fall, they will stay 4A.  If they lose in sectional, they will revert to 3A for Fall 2027.

2. Scottsburg (Sectional 31) would have a much easier drive to North Harrison and Corydon as opposed to Vincennes or Washington.

If you look over the Executive Committee - it is really not that hard to figure out. I could have told you (within a team or so) whose sectional a certain school would/would not be in.

And that's a shame really....

Or even just slide Princeton into 31 so that slot is available for HH to come back down.

Here are 31 and 32 on a map...just curious on how you would have like to have seen this done?

Good question - not sure there was a great answer either way. (You might even have to bring 30 or 29 into the equation for a total rebuild)

Looks like they went with the North/South separation for these 2...I (personally) would tend to lean to the East/West version of things- simply by drive times. For example - Mt. Vernon to Corydon and/or North Harrison is quite the hall compared to going to VL or Washington.

The longest drive in the current format is 2 hours, 9 minutes

The longest drive if you go East/West is 2 hours, 6 minutes

So that's not much difference (obviously) - for me, it is more about the appearance of one school (on the committee) trying to avoid a sectional. Might not be true - but seems that way.

I thought the same thing... I am not sure how else you do it.  Maybe he just doesn't want to be in a sectional with GS, Mater Dei, Eville Memorial?

It's tough...even if you go more with the Major roads...Hunitingburg is always kind of a tweener.  That said....31 is always so crazy weak.

I was a bit surprised on the alignments, I was expecting Washington to slide into S32. However, the visual does make sense with the North/South separation between the sectionals. Assuming that was the direction the Committee was going for.

That's how THEY will justify it (I've been in this game long enough to know that) - but it doesn't hold water or make much LOGICAL sense when you actually start comparing drive times

The true explanation is much simpler - and much more slimy.

250 miles round trip from Corydon Central to Mt. Vernon!

That being said, there is so much changing within 3A over this way. Charlestown and Madison bumped into 4A and Salem dropped to 2A, that really changes what the committee can do.  However, potentially 250 miles round trip for a sectional game is crazy!

Makes little to no sense to put 7 teams in 31, unless the committee believes HH will win sectional 24 next year to stay in 4A.

Would the separation have anything to do with Time Zones ?

Not gonna shed a tear one way or another. We lived a pretty tough route for years in 2A (Mater Dei, Linton, etc...), has been about the same ( or tougher) in 3A.

This has never been about that - it's been about pointing out the glaring obvious without saying it out loud. We don't publicly shame on the GID, but if you're smart enough, you can put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Maybe the aging eyes are having a trouble reading between the lines. Are we suggesting Washington did not want to land in 32?

Here would have been my suggestion.  Move Sullivan up to the western Indy (which now includes Crawfordsville) sectional.  Move Indian Creek to an Indy/ East Indiana sectional.  Move Corydon and NH to the Southeast corner.

Alternatively, I could be talked in Sullivan in 32 which would push HH/ SR to the east in 31, which is how things were during the 2010's.

29. (7): Crawfordsville, North Montgomery, Tri-West Hendricks, Western Boone, Sullivan, Owen Valley, Edgewood

30. (8): Indianapolis George Washington Community, Speedway, Purdue Polytechnic - Downtown, Indian Creek, Heritage Christian, New Castle, Centerville, Rushville Consolidated

31. (8): Scottsburg, Corydon Central, North Harrison, Batesville, Franklin County, Greensburg, Lawrenceburg, South Dearborn

32. (8): Evansville Mater Dei, Evansville Reitz Memorial, Gibson Southern, Mt. Vernon, Princeton Community, Southridge, Vincennes Lincoln, Washington

Common Sense has left the building... This looks really accurate as to how the sectionals "should" break down. The only problem with this format is that you have to anticipate HH falling back to 3A next season into 31/32. cant have a 9 team sectional.
