Stinky, Stink, Stink 1.2..3....

this is not shocking to anyone especially me!

One of the best programs in the State you see

After year one, Mann it was a disaster, and all should agree.

Two things are just wild to me (though likely all of the details are private as they should be)...

1.  A coach can lead a team to a state championship and be gone two years later...in HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL.

2. The BD job has now become one that seems to come up 2-3 times per decade and will be hiring its FIFTH coach since the departure of Dick Dullaghan just over 20 years ago.

1) Tom Allen (left for Wabash)

2) Mike Kirschner (Resigned with no immediate plans to coach the next season...then came back at Mt. Vernon after they pursued him)

3) Jason Simmons (left for Miami of Ohio)

4) Russ Mann (resigned)

What's your thoughts/insights about this move???  Without a doubt, you are our BD expert!!  I realize this may be sensitive, so I ask in a way to protect those impacted.....

I enjoyed getting to know and working with Russ these last three seasons. He's a good guy, and he has a fun and different way of looking at things. I think he'd admit that it didn't end exactly like he thought it would here. I'll always appreciate the work he did that first season. That team was expected to be good, and it still had to complete a gauntlet run to the state championship. It was full of landmines. That was a fun run. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the highlight. I think the arrow points way up for the program. He's leaving it in a pretty good position to move forward. We'll see what the next coach could do.

I remember meeting him for the first time. He was like, "You're BDGiant93!"

Anyway, he's a friend, and I'll leave it there.

Great insight...I know Coach Mann will have some excellent future opportunities.

If he wants to coach again, he'll definitely coach again somewhere. He's a big pro-school guy. He really gets himself immersed in the school culture. He was at everything. He's a kid magnet.

Excellent take! I think you will agree with me. The Ben Davis Head Football Coach position is tougher today than it was a long time ago.

1.) Anyone being HC at Ben Davis has a large looming shadow (Dick Dullaghan) to follow with Champion Caliber expectations.

2.) With Open enrollment and the landscape of Indiana High School sports there is a large competition with kids let alone athletes Ben Davis, Avon, Brownsburg all in the same vicinity all 6A.

3.) The conference and non conference schedule don't give you many breaks.

Ben Davis Head Coach is a great job to have but also a high pressure job to have.

I always wonder if a program is in good shape/trending upwards, why a coach is “let go”?

It looks like technically the HC wasn't let go he resigned.

First, one of the local TV stations had on their web site that he was told that there was going to be a change in a different direction. Oftentimes, especially in the business world, the word is that they "retired', left to pursue an other opportunity", and so on.

Second, point #2 could be the big reason. Compare these three schools and city/town's populations. Avon, a town, is now estimated at around 23K, Brownsburg, also a town, at estimated at 32K, and Wesfield, a city, is now estimated at 51K. Now look at the school enrollments. Brownsburg's is 3,464, Avon's is 3,476. Westfield's is 2,960. That tells me that either Westfield is a much older community, so fewer kids in the schools, which it is not, or there are a lot of kids from other areas, particularly Wayne Township driving across the county line to Avon and Brownsburg.

Fair point.  Just in general…

Yes I agree with what you are saying about a change in a different direction. I was just stating that technically he resigned and was not let go (which is better for his resume).

I am pretty sure Avon and Brownsburg have been getting kids for several years that would have been at Ben Davis. Some of them have actually moved (with new apartments/houses going in left and right) in Avon and Brownsburg.

Giants on their fourth phone call in search of a replacement…

What does this mean? Where did this info come from? Are they calling and choosing to interview rather than seeing applicants?

They’re gonna need a track coach too. Maybe looking for a combo.

You’re speaking out of pocket.

I didn't mention any names of current coaches. You did.

It's not unusual for a football coach to be on staff in other sports.

Here is the opening I was referring to, I'm surprised you don't know about it. Administration needs to do a better job disseminating information.

You are. You look much better grayed out. Very rare that I even look. I looked at this thread because I knew you'd respond to my comment. So predictable.

Yep.  Never pass up an opportunity to watch you make an ass of yourself.
