Bob Trumpy, a Pro Bowl tight end for the Cincinnati Bengals and a pioneering voice in sports broadcasting, passed away peacefully at the age of 80. His death marks the loss of a man whose impact on football extended far beyond the playing field.

Born March 6, 1945, in Springfield, Illinois, Trumpy’s athletic journey began as a standout at the University of Utah, where he played both football and basketball. Drafted by the Bengals in 1968, he quickly became one of quarterback Greg Cook’s favorite targets and earned Pro Bowl honors in 1968 and 1970. Over his 10-year NFL career, Trumpy amassed more than 4,600 receiving yards and 35 touchdowns, helping define the tight end position during the league’s formative years.

Trumpy’s legacy grew even stronger after his retirement, when he transitioned into broadcasting—a field he helped shape with his sharp analysis and commanding voice. He spent decades as a color commentator for NBC Sports, covering Super Bowls, Olympic Games, and countless NFL matchups. His work earned him the prestigious Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014, recognizing his excellence in sports broadcasting.

Known for his wit, candor, and deep understanding of the game, Trumpy was a mentor to younger broadcasters and a trusted voice for generations of fans. Whether calling a dramatic playoff game or offering insight into locker room dynamics, he brought clarity and passion to every broadcast.

Condolences to his family and friends and may he Rest in Peace.

Special thanks to follower Dottie Ann for her notification of Trumpy's passing, it is appreciated.

Fuzzy Zoeller, a 10-time PGA Tour winner and one of the most colorful golfers in tour history, has died, the PGA Tour announced Thursday, Nov. 27.

Zoeller, who was born in New Albany, Ind., was 74. No cause of death was disclosed.

hough he blended his golf skill with humor, his racist joke about Tiger Woods created a firestorm.

The controversy took place as Woods was on his way to win the 1997 Masters when Zoeller referred to Woods as "that little boy" and urged Woods not to request fried chicken or collard greens for the Champions Dinner before next year's Masters at Augusta. Zoeller apologized but the comments haunted him for years.

"The PGA Tour is saddened by the passing of Fuzzy Zoeller," Jay Monahan, commissioner of the PGA Tour, said in a statement posted on X. "Fuzzy was a true original whose talent and charisma left an indelible mark on the game of golf. Fuzzy combined competitive excellence with a sense of humor that endeared him to fans and fellow players alike. We celebrate his remarkable legacy and extend our deepest condolences to his family."

...

Truly an Indiana Icon.  He will be missed.

Sonny Jurgensen, a 1983 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee and one of the purest passers of the 1960s, died at at the age of 91, his family announced Friday.

"It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, Sonny Jurgensen," the Jurgensen family said in a statement released by the Washington Commanders. "We are enormously proud of his amazing life and accomplishments on the field, marked not only by a golden arm, but also a fearless spirit and intellect that earned him a place among the legends in Canton. But to those of us who knew him beyond the stadium lights, he was the steady, humorous, and deeply loving heart of our family.

"He lived with deep appreciation for the teammates, colleagues, and friends he met along the way. While he has taken his final snap, his legacy will remain an indelible part of the city he loved and the family he built.

"We are comforted by the knowledge that he brought joy to so many. This weekend as we enjoy the game that he loved so much, join us and raise a glass, share a story and a smile, as we celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who was, to us, the greatest of all time."

With an 18-year career that spanned from 1957 to 1974, Jurgensen sparkled as a thrower during an era when offenses more commonly operated in a cloud of dust. He led the league in passing yards five separate times, earning five Pro Bowl nominations and one All-Pro nod, which came in his first season as the Philadelphia Eagles' starter in 1961.

The Philadelphia and Washington quarterback was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1960s alongside Green Bay Packers QB Bart Starr and Baltimore Colts QB Johnny Unitas.

..

Truly one of the greats.

Big Red One was underappreciated in its day and is largley forgotten now...easily one of the best WW2 portrayals until SPR in the late 90's.
