My experience with education is you get out of it what you put into it. My guess is results in the classroom are much more tied to home than whether you go to this special program at that special school. Larger schools by their very nature of being larger have more options to offer, across the board, education, extracurriculars, clubs, etc.

As far as listing in all the magazines, follow the money.

I agree 100%. I wasn't giving an opinion, just what's on paper. Doctors and Lawyers have graduated from every school in Southern Indiana.

First, my family moved from Seymour to Columbus.  We have 5 kids.  We witnessed first hand how the curriculum is more intense.  My oldest is a high ability learner.  BCSC's advanced curriculum (AC) program is awesome.  Seymour didn't have one at the time. Not sure if JC has one or not.  BCSC has two one at Parkside and the other at Southside.  My other children who are not AC kids were challenged quite a bit more at first.  Once they got used to the difference they started to thrive.

Take a look at NICHE.  JC scores really low on math.  North is higher in every aspect of education.  It just is what it is.

My oldest was challenged because there were kids that were doing trigonometry in the 6th grade.  He's competitive so it made him work harder.  It's not a slam, it's just facts.  Someone has to be first and so on.  Columbus North doesn't rank as high as a Fishers or Carmel but for this area it's number one.

That does not mean that kids can't be successful at other schools.  But for those that want to be challenged more and experience more, North is a better school statistically.

I agree with you about the AC programs being available at BCSC elementary schools whereas they aren’t there in JCSC elementary schools. I wasn’t considering that in my original reply so I concede to you on that. I was strictly looking at it from a high school vs high school perspective.

Given my background in education and my experiences with both school systems, I feel like I’m qualified to throw in my thoughts. I know both schools offer AP courses and both have students in C4 programs (although some travel may be required for JC kids in certain courses). The biggest difference between the two schools, though, is the clientele. I cannot overstate to you or anyone else how much of a role money plays into how well schools perform in the metrics. The more money your students’ families have the better they’re going to perform in school.

I can tell you both schools have some great teachers who work very hard to ensure their students succeed. Unfortunately, the teachers at schools with a high poverty rate are going to struggle in comparison no matter how hard teachers try. It would be great if all students started at the same level development-wise and learned at the same rate. However, there are so many different levels students can start at and not all kids develop at the same rate. This is why the “No Child Left Behind Act” was one of biggest BS laws ever concocted and passed but I digress.

I just want to make sure everyone understands that what the metrics are measuring isn’t reflective of the entire situation. There are some rare exceptions but, by and large, why do most schools outperform others in the metrics? As @Impartial_Observer stated, follow the money. That’s not an indictment of schools with richer clientele. More power to them. They’re not doing anything wrong. All I’m saying is that we need to consider the reasons for why some schools’ metrics are bad and not indict them for being bad (or lesser) schools.

I haven't heard one person have one good thing to say about the "No child left behind act." Not one.

It’s proof that bipartisanship is good in theory but is usually a bad thing because it just means both parties came together to screw over the country.

I can agree with the students/parents/economic situation making a difference and possibly making it easier on the teacher to produce different results.  A parent can still point to those results and site a difference in educational opportunity.  I totally believe there are good teachers in both areas.  The education is different in results and possibly application, whether that is the environment or the program or a little of both.  It's very much the rich get richer.  I don't think anyone will perfectly solve that problem.  It's something that we will always have.  But Indiana has opened the door to open enrollment so they have created their own problem.  You know what's funny? When students that don't play sports transfer you don't hear anything.  I wonder if a school loses their best soloist in band if they deny their transfer?

On another note, will there be a HHC pick 'ems?  If so, who are the week 1 opponents?

We are. I wanted to post the schedule yesterday and tag everyone but I’m waiting for the media rankings to come out first. Should happen sometime today. I like to make sure I include both sets of rankings before posting the week’s schedule.

Floyd Central is playing Louisville St X. I'm expecting another blowout loss to them. However we did beat their Freshman team last year so hopefully it'll be competitive soon.

Hello folks. Another season of high school football is upon us and I’m excited to get it underway. As I’ve done the last four years, I will be running the 2024 HHC pick ‘em. If you are tagged, let me know if you hope to compete again this year. Others are welcome to join as well. Please note that you have to submit picks every single week before kickoff time if you want to be a part of the main competition. If you don’t, I will still allow you to submit picks and will display your totals in relation to others who failed to pick every game. However, you’ll be tabulated based on percentage and won’t be eligible to win the main competition.

This weak will be brutal for the HHC.

Not that the HHC has ever been great but the vibe I’m getting is that every team is down this year. Floyd Central will just be less down than everyone else.

I mean we aren't bad. But I don't think FC will win the Regional, or even the Sectional this year. I hope so. I'm praying.

In comparison with the HHC, they won’t be bad. In comparison with 5A, I don’t know if they’re in the top 20. Maybe I’m wrong and you can let me know down the road but that’s the sense I’m getting based on what I’ve read and what I’ve been told.

Umm, im not sure? If they can beat Terre Haute South on the road, I will give them the nod. I see a lot of 2023 Seymour in this team. Coach Bragg is big on defense though so hopefully he will get that lined out.

Here are some scrimmage notes from assistant coaches about HHC teams last Friday night. Some of this is second-hand information so correct any of this if it’s wrong.

-BNL was awful against Brownstown Central.

-Jeffersonville got crushed by Madison.

-Can’t get a good read on Seymour at the moment. Silver Creek was so bad against them that they literally apologized to Seymour afterwards.

-Jennings County competed well with Shelbyville given what they ran. Apparently they held back a lot so as not to tip their hand against South Dearborn.

-Columbus East is very young and inexperienced along the lines but their secondary was surprisingly superb.

-Haven’t heard a thing about New Albany’s scrimmage with Scottsburg.

-For Floyd Central, see @Fkfootball’s post on the previous page in this thread.

It sounds like Floyd will be the team to beat in the HHC.  However, Floyd has been known to blow it when they looked to be on top before, right?

Columbus East secondary is good.  Lawson is tall, lanky and fast.  Can win 50/50 balls.  Herron is tall and athletic as well.  I foresee their lines being a big problem.  Will have to see if they can figure it out.  Coach Vogel alludes that the team is still trying to find their identity.

Seymour has arguably, or not, the best WR in the conference.  Maybe one of the best in the state in Johnson. But he doesn't have the other WR help that he had last year. I know they graduated a bunch of linemen.  Their QB spot seemed up in the air and big shoes to fill with Perry missing.

I think the top three are Floyd, East, and Seymour.  East and Seymour could be interchangeable.  If Floyd manages to get upset, it could make the race for the top interesting.  I like that Floyd has a tough schedule.  East's schedule isn't a walk in the park either.  As always, teams staying healthy matters.

Did Floyd Central blow it last year? I'm not sure how these comments continue to be made? When have they choked? They've either been good or not good. It's as simple as that.

It’s a scrimmage.  Crew at Seymour asked what I thought of them and I just said, I’m sorry I wasn’t paying attention.

Johnson is really good. But you have to give credit to Isaac Kaiser too. He was AP All State last season. He single handily won us several games last season.

Couldn't agree with this more. I never pay attention to Pre-Season, Exhibition, or Scrimmage games. They mean very little in any sport. Some NFL teams go 3-0 in Pre Season and then go 6-10 during the regular season.
