  1. This is the shortest retirement in history. DT tells us he's leaving and "passing a baton" he only held in his own mind, and now is back trying to appoint himself the content curator of the GID.

  3. @Coach_K I think there are a myriad of reasons why we are seeing shortages of officials in all sports across the country. I think behavior issues mostly occur at the youth level. Youth is the worst case scenario, the most unskilled players, the youngest most inexperienced coaches and parents, and in many cases this is where young officials also cut their teeth. In the last few years I've cut my youth stuff WAY back, and I'm not going to lie, parents are part of that decision. I will do a few games in a pinch, but only at locations where the games happen in a stadium and the parents are in the stands. The two leagues I work also have policies in place where they don't allow idiots. Call me an old coger, but there is a softness in people today. When you put that striped shirt on, you're going to have to deal with some animosity, coaches are going to question your decisions, fans are going to boo, jeer, whatever. It goes along with the territory. If you can't deal with a certain amount of that, you have no business in this avocation. Last stats I saw from the IHSAA the average age of a new official was like 42 and they would keep their license three years. Pay, and I hesitate to mention this, but it is a factor. Not unusual for me to leave my house on a Friday night at 3:30 and not be home until after midnight. Drive 1 1/2 hours for a 65-70 buck paycheck. I'm good with that, I knew what it was when I signed up, but when we're trying to attract new blood, a young family man, trying to make ends meet, he can't afford to go into the hole doing this. At the high school level, I just don't see the behavior issues that are painted in these articles. I try to be professional and courteous in administering the game. For the most part, I think coaches act the same. This legislation in my opinion is a waste of time and money. It doesn't address any of the problems we have in attracting and maintaining officials.

  5. Use the copy link in YouTube. When you paste the link in the GID thread, tell it to post the link as plain text. It will take out the underlining at first and then all of a sudden you will see the link text replaced with the video show up in the post. Add any other text that you want at that point ... if any ... and then click on the Submit Reply button.

  8. Not the typical article to find here, but definitely worth posting here. So many puns to go with it. How great it would be to keep the fire burning at 96, right? 😄 https://worldnewsdailyreport.com/elderly-couple-accidentally-burns-house-down-during-sex-game-involving-ww2-flamethrower/?fbclid=IwAR1T_MZg-yek_aqUHNAddfDPLvRIZjI85O_avwd6piAzwdjsh40urI39sFk

  9. What was the original intent of forming 6A? To keep the 32 largest schools in an elite meat-grinder class where almost every game would be a tough out. Look at 6A regular season margins of victory. Look at offensive and defensive averages. Not a lot of extremism, huh? Look among your 6A coaches. Most of them love being told they can’t do something (beat Penn, Carmel, the MIC). This alignment you propose is nice for the North but there will be even more grousing from the South and the MIC. The latter(s) are the biggest proponents of seeding. They were especially vocal after the ‘17 Penn-BD title game. There are only ten “true North” teams so all solutions are imperfect. Keep Carmel in NE Indy in S4 and strive to beat them, move two HSE schools to S3 and strive to beat them as well. All the folks looking outside-in with excuses have to wipe away their tears and manage their expectations.

  10. I gotta start getting out more. And out of the cinematic masterpiece that is The Big Lebowski, that's the scene they came up with?

  12. The National Assoc. of Sports Officials has conducted several surveys to find what is driving officials away from officiating prematurely. You see, it’s a mistake to characterize this situation as only a failure in recruiting. Retention is just as big an issue. And the surveys all show that the #3 reason officials give up their avocation early - behind family and job obligations - is lack of sportsmanship/respect shown to officials by fans, parents, coaches, players, and media.

  14. Last night on Sports Beat they had an interview with the Mishawaka AD Penn is off the football schedule in 2020 - Mishawaka will open with Marian and then play East Noble followed by 7 conference games Marian is the opening game for now - he did not mention how many years. When they joined the NLC they had week 1-2 open to play Penn - Penn and MHS have been talking. Penn wants to keep opening with Valpo In 2020 Penn has a contract with Laporte MHS is open to play Penn in week 2 and Dean said he would sign a 10 year contract to make it happen. He is hoping that in 2021 they might play again in football but Penn has to have the same feeling Talks have been ongoing In certain other sports they will continue to play Penn if it can be worked in

  17. Garrity who will be a Jr. should see some action at TE, I could see Blake Culley & Mitch Miller as a slot/receiver. Casey Baird & Elliot Young also. Wethington, Cortez, Hole, Josh Benson, Luke Marsh, Freeman are back defensively. There are pieces in the current Freshman/Sophomore class that got a lot of playing time last year that will step up... And the incoming Freshman class is REALLY good.

  19. You listed Logansport, Twin Lakes, and North Judson. None of these teams had a player selected over yours at his position. So what is the point of mentioning them? I think in the fact All-State teams are selected by class, and the Region has No Class. It is all encompassing. So I do understand what your saying, I do not think that argument holds much water. I have been going to this meeting for longer than these kids we are voting on have been alive. I have had some very deserving kids and managers who did not make this team. It does not take away from their success and accomplishments. He is a heck of a football player I am sure. You do not get those type of accolades if you are not.
