Back in the day...our parents & west siders, in general, were allegedly fans of viewing the moonlight and the submarine races from atop Reitz Hill but that is probably a topic for a different forum and audience. Notice, I said "allegedly"... not pointing fingers here! 😳

Wow! LCC was down 21-0 and came back to win 22-21. I never thought they would beat Guerin. This is the first time in history that Lafayette Jeff and LCC have finished the regular season unbeaten in the same year. This is the 10th time that LCC has finished the regular season unbeaten. 1969...10-0 (No playoffs until 1973 1999... 9-0 (won state) 2006...9-0 (lost in the 2nd round of sectionals to Seeger 30-22) 2007...9-0 (lost to Clinton Central 28-27 in 1st round of sectionals) 2009...9-0 (won State) 2010...9-0 (won State) 2011...9-0 (won State) 2015...9-0 (won State) 2016...9-0 (lost to Pioneer 28-27 in Regional) 2024...9-0 (I don't know if they will win state) I don't think anybody thought LCC would finish 9-0 this year. This is the biggest surprise since LCC beat Sheridan in 1989. Lafayette Jeff is also 9-0 and could win state this year. They can play with anybody in 5A. Many think Merrillville or Plainfield will win state. I don't know what this means, but here are some games that might be of interest. Merrillville 14 Michigan City 12 Lafayette Jeff 17 Michigan City 13 Plainfield 24 Harrison 9 Lafayette Jeff 45 Harrison 21. Lafayette should enjoy this because Jeff and LCC might not finish the regular season unbeaten in the same year ever again.

Well, the Dolphins had to depend on their 3rd string QB today, and the Colts found a way to get past them. It was not a highlight game, but a much needed win. It'll probably be that way the rest of the season, 'til Richardson gets some needed experience.

Ok, it's there but the sort is terrible. I tried Start Date and Updated date and neither one seems to be in order. I stopped trying to process that forum and it looked like the most recent posts were from 2022. But that perception was just based on the sorting just not making any sense to me.

IU has better starting QB's, that's for sure. Jackson will not be a big drop off for the Hoosiers.

According to the IHSAA rules, it looks like Jeff, being in a four-team section, will play both of its games on the road. It looks like Concord would play its sectional championship at home. Jeff, being non-host in the sectional championship and in an even-numbered sectional should get home field if they end up facing Concord. Of course, that depends on whether or not there's a white buffalo born between now and Halloween and, the more important sign from the gods, Purdue is able to score a TD in the first half of its game with Northwestern.

This interesting story from the Fighting Irish Daily Facebook page: "PLAY LIKE A CHAMPION TODAY." Notre Dame doesn't make a dime off it. All the rights money goes in the pocket of the little sign painter who made it -- Laurie Wenger. "I have MS," says Wenger, who retired from Notre Dame in 2009 but still lives in South Bend. "So it really helps pay my medical bills." How a simple sign painter has made all that money off Notre Dame starts with Lou Holtz. He was the new football coach at Notre Dame in 1986 when he was leafing through an old football picture book and saw a black-and-white picture of a sign that said, "Play Like a Champion Today." He had to have one. He dispatched one of his assistant coaches, George Stewart, to the campus sign shop. "Coach wants something like this painted up ASAP," Stewart said, handing Wenger a piece of paper. It took about three days. When she finished, she closed her eyes, said a quick prayer and rushed it over to the football office. Prayer answered. Holtz loved it and had it hung on the wall of a narrow staircase leading to the field. "I told my players, 'Every time you hit this sign, I want you to remember all the great people that played here before you, all the sacrifices that your teammates have made for you, all the people, your coaches, your parents, who are responsible for you being here.'" Since that day, some of the greatest players in Notre Dame history have touched it -- from Tim Brown to Rocket Ismail to Manti Te'o, Holtz believed in the sign so much that he had Laurie make another one and took it with him to road games. It became so screwed into Notre Dame lore that you'd think George Gipp had slapped it, too. "People think that sign has been up there since Christ was in diapers," Wenger says. "But, really, it's only been about 25 years." Right away, somebody wanted a copy -- Rudy Ruettiger. Yes, that Rudy, from the movie of the same name, although that came seven years later. "I thought, 'Wow, this guy is into it," she says. "And then my husband thought, 'If he wants it, maybe other people would want it." So her husband set out to get it trademarked. "We checked to see if we could have the rights, and the school said 'Well, it doesn't say "Notre Dame" on it, so go ahead.'" It's nearly as famous as the Golden Dome, and, as it has turned out, worth almost as much. #GoIrish

They’re terrible lol

Wasn't that many years ago when a soph QB Tayven Jackson led a CG team with a 4-5 regular season record (back in the MIC days) all the way to the state finals and nearly won it all...came down to the wire against Carmel. As we all know, a team can turn it around and get hot when it matters most.

The Irish played very conservatively last night. It was as if they just wanted it to be over. Three turnovers lead to Warren Central "drives" of 5, 12 and 2 yards. Very uncharacteristic for this year's team. They had excellent field position for most of the game, except before the fumble near the end of the half. Cameron Koers didn't play his best, some credit to the WC defense for that, as did the OL have a tough night. I received some information after the game that makes me hopeful that the injury situation will be better in the next week or two. Things are not as bad as it seems, but the Irish must play better than they have the las two games. After the Center Grove game, the offense has been quite spotty, to say the least. The good news is the defense has played a bit better in the last two games. Two weeks off with benefit the team both with preparation and healing. GO IRISH!!!!!

Me too. I'm bummed. I was already planning a Bloody Mary Mother of God bar, hashbrowns, sausage links from Old Fashioned and pancakes. Now I guess it'll just be Busch Lights and hotdogs on Friday...

Unfortunately, this happens far too frequently. Under NF rules, on a kick try (extra point) the ball is dead as soon as it is apparent that the kick has failed. Not so on a field goal attempt. But a field goal from that distance looks like a kick try, and muscle memory kicks in so you blow the whistle when the kick fails. That’s why the proper mechanic is for the crew members to all communicate with one another before the play that “it’s a field goal, the ball remains alive.” Not an excuse. Just an explanation.

Ball then gets spotted at the ORIGINAL spot of the 4th down play, NOT at the 4 yard line. It was a "loose ball" inadvertent whistle". Clearly CC would have elected to re-do the down. But they would not get to advance it. If so, then they are saying the down counted and would be giving them a "5th down" for the re-do. They got the re-try at the wrong spot.
