  1. Perhaps you missed my post earlier, but these are the very people you’re going to have to change their minds, the coaches. Personally I’d rather be pissing in the ocean, so long as it’s from a nice warm beach.
  2. The level of play across the board in HS sports in Indiana is dropping. I see a lot of HS sports and I don’t believe the level of play is as good today as it was 10 years ago. There are many factors that can contribute to this in each sport, however the one constant across sports is coaches having access to players throughout the year. Football especially I see some real problems on the horizon if we don’t make some changes. Several years back in a meeting at the IHSAA we were told that the student advisory council voted unanimously to stop summer contact. This was when Bobby Cox was still commissioner. I think Bobby had the right idea, but his tenure ended. The demands that HS coaches out on athletes is just stupid at this point. Some sports are obviously worse than others, and I think the IFCA has done an outstanding job of getting out in front of it. But we as a whole “athletic people” need to realize what’s going on and address it. Don’t take my word for it, talk to any multi-sport HS kid and ask their opinion. It’s way past time we start letting kids be kids and having fun playing sports again.
  3. I will admit I’ve been to OV a few times over the years as well as having them in the road. They don’t have a much tradition. Good for OV, always good to see some success after a long drought. I’m quite familiar Pike Central, having spent a lot of time in Petersburg in my yute. We’ve been sent to Pike Central a couple of times in the tournament. Pike County was pretty much decimated when the coal industry petered out. It has been a tough situation. Again, happy to see Pike Central have a little success. If I’m not mistaken I thought I heard on Bob Lovell’s show a couple of weeks ago it was PC’s first tournament win. No interest in arguing merits of PC being there, just happy to see a couple of teams enjoy a little success when they’ve had so little over the years. Congrats to both teams.
  4. You missed the point, your beef is with the football coaches, not the IHSAA. I would start with them, contact your local coach, I’m sure you can get on the agenda at the next regional meeting. OR write up your proposal and take it to the IIAAA, again contact your local AD you should have no problem getting in the agenda at the next regional meeting. As someone who participates in this process, I can tell you you will need to start by polling the coaches. IIAAA will want to see a high participation rate in the polling, at least 75%, and they’ll want to see overwhelming support for your proposal. You will need to have your i’s dotted and t’s crossed by early November next year to get on the agenda at the IIAAA annual meeting. You give your presentation and if they approve your proposal then you need to get in the agenda for the IHSAA’s annual meeting in early May, give your presentation and let the chips fall where they may. I will caution you, in my travels and conversations around the southern two thirds of the state, there is virtually zero interest among coaches and administrators to change the all in format.
  5. You guys need to realize the all in format was always the goal of the IFCA. The current format assures teams play 10 games a season, which seems to be the magic number for regular season HS football games. Your problem isn’t with the IHSAA it’s with the IFCA because ultimately that’s who runs Football in this state.
  6. Serious question for the participants in this thread: Do you believe the all-in/qualifier is the biggest stumbling block holding Indiana HS Football back?
  7. We beat BNL my Junior year with the old “yellow punt”, the very play @Bobrefdescribed. I was a dumbass HS kid and knew it was jank.
  8. HS does not have the same substitution rules as NCAA or NFL. There are no requirements to allow the other team to sub.
  9. On another note, when you flag the play or shut it down, and coach lose his sh….Coach you remember before the game when I asked if you had any unusual plays or anything we needed to be aware of, that would have been a good time to mention this.
  10. I scrolled back on the vid, the series started nose on the 22. The end of the run looked to clearly be to the 12, thus a first down. I understand the PR move, but seriously? Many moons ago when I was on the chains we had a crew chief that didn’t measure one time he should have and got gun shy and all of the sudden he wanted to measure everything within two yards. Until one night I think it was about to be our third measurement and he stops the clock and looks at me…..I just shook my head no and held up three fingers and said third down. After the game in the locker room we came to the agreement if I said take a look he could measure if he liked. As I said I get the PR move but if there’s no reason to measure it if the coach is just looking for another TO.
  11. Both wings throw flags at the snap, home team picks up a first down. I’m told A has five guys in the backfield. I of course give the “do all” five yard penalty signal and we mark off the foul as the PA announcer announces false start on A. We get the ball set and I blow the RFP and in the quiet few seconds I hear that one loud mouth, “if it was a false start why didn’t you blow it dead?” I kind of chuckled. Told the guys in the locker after, that kind of summed up the evening.
  12. He’s outside the FBZ, the ball crossed the LOS, that meets all the criteria to throw the ball away.
  13. Need to be clear before moving forward, was this a PAT or a FG attempt?
  14. I saw BN a few weeks back I thought this would be an interesting matchup. We talked tonight going to our game and the consensus was it would be 50 something 40 something and that BN could get a few stops to win it. BN’s got some dudes, QB was fun to watch. I think it’s an interesting off season coming up. Shout out to the seniors who played their final games the last couple weeks. We talked about it tonight in the locker room before the game, that last game. Contrary to popular belief IO does have a heart, and I feel for the young men this time of year.
  15. Yes I agree 100%, but I wouldn’t be much of a coach if I didn’t take advantage of my knowledge….and others’ lack thereof.
  16. You guys might be amazed at what I was able to talk umpires into when I was coaching.
  17. Very real chance Football season ends for the HHC this week.
  18. No clue wasn’t there, all of everyone’s TO’s are accounted for.
  19. I have been told that SC used their final TO at 0:14.6. It should be noted that officials always write down the time remaining on the clock and the period when we write down TO’s.
