  1. I will be at Corydon wearing stripes.
  2. I recall one of my most embarrassing losses of my coaching career. Only time I ever lost to this conference team and we had no business losing to them. We were better at every position on the field. Lost 8-6 at their place. It was a LONG ride home. Rather than have the bus drop us off at the school as normal I had the driver drop us off at the diamond where we proceeded to practice for about two hours. I didn’t get on the internet and make excuses, I didn’t whine and cry about the umpires or whoever may or may not have been hurt, WE (our team (coaches and players) got our ass kicked by a better team that night. We went back to their place and run ruled them a week later in the conference tournament. They best part about the whole deal, my kids didn’t see it as punishment, they were as embarrassed as I was and were eager to get back to work. We had a great practice that night!
  3. Wasn’t my pick last week enough to prove I have no business making prognostications.
  4. It’s a lot like porn, I have a hard time defining it, but I know it when I see it. Bob’s sliding scale is a great analogy, show me you’re not trying to make the “big hit highlight reel”.
  5. Dude I’ve offered to buy the first round multiple times.
  6. Who I am is the worst kept secret on this board! Brian Personett.
  7. Geez dude, you just can’t help yourself can you? I had a nice conversation with JC’s AD earlier in the season at a JV game. He told me of several injuries they were fighting at the time. Injuries happen in sports, how many kids was JC playing without? Sometimes you just get beat. At which time you congratulate the winners and move on to next week and get back to work. First it was the multiple coaching staffs at FC, then it was the players, now it’s injuries. If you are this famous person that everyone knows and respects in Floyd Knobs, giving pep talks to the team, I would hope you’d just support the school and quit making excuses and degrading every other school.
  8. Most likely one of the only schools that responded to his questionnaires he sent to coaches. He had a thread last year mentioning hottest junior linemen and failed to mention any of the high profile lineman at a certain south side Catholic school. When I called him out on it, he blamed the coach for not supporting his players and replying to a questionnaire that he emailed. That’s not “reporting”, that’s writing PR pieces for schools.
  9. Interesting take on “green” tech.
  10. Politicians love inflation another tax they don’t have to take the hit for. All they had to do was turn the printing press on.
  11. As I have stated multiple times, the tech is not there for the masses. I’m a guy who does truck things with a truck, from what I’ve seen with EV trucks, I’ll leave them to the soccer dads for the time being. That being said the Ford F-150 Lightning is pretty cool for tooling around town or taking your kids to the lake for the weekend. Just doesn’t check the truck stuff boxes I need out of a truck. The tech is there now, embrace hybrid tech. Also of note Cummins is still headed down the Hydrogen rabbit hole.
  12. My guess is Shortridge’s gate for a home game would be less than their slice of the sectional pie which could include some very high profile games. Reasonable chance their slice of a Brebeuf/Roncalli match up could be bigger than a home gate.
  13. Heard an interesting argument on the radio the other day. The guy was saying the move to EV’s is a game changer in that it will be the end of the hoopty. HS kids won’t be able to keep EV’s on the road, due to costs of replacement batteries, shade tree mechanicing will be difficult with Uber tech and high voltage DC. My guess is we’ll see a whole new breed of hot rodders born, but the high school hoopty may well be a thing of the past.
  14. Don’t disagree but I’m the dude who said take NA and the points last week.
  15. I’m not sure how Seymour got screwed? Not a terrible trip, they’re not playing south two weeks in a row. Not sure they wanted East again, or maybe they did.
  16. They have to like that draw. Seymour @BHSN East vs BHHS.
  17. I watched them swap them out one night waiting on the rest of the guys. They rotate and they used a forklift. Coach Radtke even treated us to Spaghetti Factory afterwards.
  18. I believe at The RCA Dome and LOS, they use standard NFHS goalposts and hash marks.
  19. Possibly, running clock? How long overall? Did the 12th guy actually do anything? How hungry are you?
  20. It’s an issue at all schools that play on college fields. Scecina used to play some games at UIndy, Ritter plays at Marian, and there used to be a southern Indiana Classic that was played at Cardinal Stadium in Louisville. I always confirm via email with both coaches and AD’s what the situation is. It was only an issue one time, thus the emails confirming everything prior. And it wasn’t an issue until the visiting coach was getting his ass kicked by a much better team.
  21. If you figure out the answer, bottle it and sell it. I supervise travel SB tournaments in the summer. This has been an ongoing issue for some time. I feel like I’m beating my head against the wall. I see guys/gals come into officiating and in the world of travel sports it’s usually to supplement their income, as you can make decent side hustle cash. At any rate they come into it with their eye on the $300-$1200 paycheck for a weekend’s work. You can usually tell pretty quick, the guys/gals you’re talking about will be expert officials in a couple of weeks once they figure out if anyone disagrees with them, they can just “toss them”. Then as the supervisor/UIC I have to deal with it. Here’s my thing I will do absolutely anything within my power to help a young official. What I’m trying to say is there are people officiating, who like every other walk of life are only interested in the paycheck. They have no pride in what they do, their appearance (proper uniform and looking professional), their performance, or any of the things you aspire to as a normal functioning member of society. They look at the weekend as an “quick and easy” side hustle and it just shouldn’t be that easy if you’re doing a good job. I spend a great deal of time watching hand and helping young umpires. But the uncoachable ones I don’t waste any of my time on. If they do a decent job no worries, if they’re a pain in the ass, I tell my boss don’t send them to my site. And I do hold the trump card, because as hard as officials are to find, decent site directors are even harder! Bottom line what you are seeing is largely a societal issue. How’s your experience in fast food restaurants today vs what it was 10 years ago? What about just your everyday dealings with people in general? I’m nearing the end of my officiating career. I feel like I’m working harder than I ever have. Basically at 57 it requires more than it did when I was younger. I’ve worked more games this fall than I’ve worked in years. I’ve traveled a little to do JV/Frosh/MS games. Driving an hour for a JV game and a $65 paycheck isn’t exactly adding to my IRA. Spending eight Sunday evenings driving two hours round trip plus the hourish long required association meetings doesn’t exactly add 0’s to the bank account either. All the time spent studying film, studying rules, casebook, yea just time you don’t get back. Or just Friday night at a large CI school, five guys get crammed into a little room with five chairs, two folding, one pisser, one shower, five bottles of water and five little Powerade towels. This is inside a gym with countless locker rooms in it. Left home about 3:30 got home about 11:30 for 80 bucks. I’m not whining about what we get paid or how we’re treated, honestly we probably get treated better today than we ever have. But there is this growing stigma out here there officials are all of the sudden getting rich, and it’s just simply not the case. But I will tell you this, the older I get the more schools I drive by to get to schools that take care of the officials, and it’s never been about the money.
  22. Ehhh, three completely different situations.
  23. Congrats to Coach Moore and Seymour locking up a share of the conference title. Congrats to JC getting a big W! Congrats to Madison in a big W! I guess this answers the question of why is BNL still on the schedule.
