  1. Stroud 6'0 215, Kahre 6-3 310; Burke 5'11 250, Keller 6'0 240 and Haag 6'2 225 across the front all Seniors. Add another Sr, TE Noland at 6'1 190. Defense is heavy Senior dominant, but 2 sophs are big contributors Beau Noland #34 at DE (6'2 205) and Holman Doades #20 at DB (he also is big on the offensive side) 3 seniors LB's in the older Noland, Conrad (5'10 200) and Urbain (6'1 160)... and upfront Haag 6'2 225, Burke again, Wolfe 6'4 320 and younger Noland. They did hold Linton to just 29 points, really 21 up until the last 3 minutes... but Linton also put 436 offense on the Warriors.. 299 on the ground, 137 in the air. They made big stops that kept Linton at bay, and I think that senior leadership kept them focused. They were without Urbain from mid-2nd on, and without their top RB Richter at about the same time...but their passing game kept them in the game (154 passing to 125 rushing). Should be a tremendous environment.. I suspect FP will bring a strong contigent from Ferdinand... and I am sure northern eastern and western Knox county will be out n force!
  2. I am looking back at our sectional game in 2018 with FP, and I see they just had 2 seniors on the Oline, and 2 seniors starting on D. One of those seniors played on both lines.. so essentially 3 seniors at that point contributing. I know they had some injuries coming into that game, but definitely young. 3 freshman starting on O including the QB. Maxpreps just has 1 game for FP in terms of stats...but I see some of the same names.. Day at RB, Uebelhor at QB, Berg on both sides, Knust, Schipp, Verkamp, Mohr.
  3. What an environment Warrior Field will be Friday....If I weren't heading to Evansville...and Linton wasn't playing.. I'd have to be there... just being 15 minutes away! Coach Chambers' 7 wins is the most for NK since the 9-3 2014 season for Coach McDowell... that ended in Linton 41-0 in the sectional championship... NK's last appearance in such a game, and the only time they've played for a sect crown in well over 20 years.. so the Warriors won't have any problem being up for this game. Being old arch rivals of course from way back in the Bicknell Bulldog- Linton Miner games...you'd think maybe I'd pull for the Rangers..but nope... I like seeing teams we play do well...and I almost always pull for the local team. So I'll be following the score all night for sure!!
  4. I feel good for Coach Fuhs at Forest Park. 1-9 last year... and now sitting 6-4 and in the 2nd round of sectonals . Since coming to the Rangers in 2012 this is only the 2nd time they've won an opening round sectional game. and oddly enough, that was against North Knox is 2017. 6 wins is the high win total for Coach... 5-5 in 2015 and 4-7 in 2017. I think most folks genuinely thought Tell City would be the team facing NK at this points but the Rangers beat the Marksmen back to back. Do want to congratulate Coach Clements on the season he had in his 2nd year at Tell City. 5 wins the most since 6-4 in 2013 under coach Ryan George. I would seem both TC and FP are programs on the rise. North Knox did what they were supposed to do at South Spencer, and I'd imagine are heavy favorites again this week with Forest Park. Is this at NK or FP?
  5. Well... the thing I am most concerned about for Linton is the pass defense. I feel we've improved a whole lot in that area...but we've not faced a team that can wing it for several games now... I also think the Miners have to keep in mind that Mater Dei will be faster that I think we might have been seeing. I don't think we can just lob balls along the sideline and count on the athletic abilities of DRob to always make the play. MD will equalize that type of thing. I do think that atmosphere will be something to watch it's affect on how we come out in the opening quarter. It will be different that playing at the Roy. We cant afford to make mistakes.. and we dang sure can't get down early. I think the more the game goes that we are even.. or hopefully up..or at least within a score... the more our chances can grown. Getting down 17-0 (ala against Scecina in 2017) early... and it's hard to climb back on the road. We have to be able to move the ball. Mater Dei is definitely a disciplined team, and they've played some difficult competition... big fast competition. I've said it a lot these past 2 weeks... these last two games have seen the best Linton has looked since the 2016 championship run. They definitely are playing at their most confident level...and are executing solidly in every phase. But Providence and North Posey are not on the level of Mater Dei. But we did take care of business as we were supposed to. Course I am worried about injuries and how that will affect us moving forward. Small school football it's hard to absorb the loss of one of your better players at this point, especially at a key position. I don't have any privy info on any of that, just hope that the player is ok first and foremost and go from there. I remember how I felt going into the games with Ritter....and I can remember how in both cases Linton "didn't stand a chance" against the athleticism, or the speed, or the size, or the history, or the magnitude... because back there I don't think there was the respect for Linton in big games. Both Ritter games we lost, but both we very well should have won... but that's not the point... which is that we played nose to nose with them. Scecina much the same scenario...other than getting down 17-0 in the first meeting. That second meeting was one for the ages, and we couldn't get it in from 1/2 yard away. Lutheran was supposed to come down and tear up one year... I guess my point is that you have to buy in 100% that you can win a game like that.. against the odds. I don't have doubt these kids have that same feeling within them that I've seen in other years.... Nope... no turf. We did play at Southridge last year....
  6. On a casual stroll thru the MD files... Both the QB Happe and RB McGrew I recall from last year. I don't have my files in front of me from last year to campare yet.. None of this info has the Crawford County game info included... #4 Happe Sr QB 6'0 180 had 1056 yards passing going into that game, I know he had some long TD passes. He had 10 going in, along with 10 picks. He was 83 of 137. Looks like his main target is #17 Kassellback, a senior 5'10 175 slot man who plays both sides of the ball. He's caught 14 for 259 and 4 scores. McGrew (#22 Sr 5'9 185) has 11 catches out of the backferld forr 116 and a TD, I guess the big thing is there are a whole lot of different guys with similar numbers... and they run 4 wide a lot. #21 Turner (Jr 5'10) with 5 for 75 1TD, #88 Schurr (Sr 6'0 185) 6 fo 76 and a score, #3 Brandtly (Jr 5'9 170) 8 for 96, and another #13 Money (jr 6'5 210) who I'm betting is a TE has 7 for 80. McGrew has been the running threat, with 964 yards on 140 carries going into last Friday's game. 14 Rushing TDs as well. Happe has a rush TD and 311 yards on 50 keeps. All the receivers I mentioned each have a handful of carries... less that 5. I see #36 Boring (Sr 5'8 190) listed at RB LB, who has 313 yards rushing on 60 carries and 7 TDs... including a 100+ game against North... but evidently he got injured and he hasn't appeared in any stat since the Bosse win in week 7. Since then it's obvious that McGrew has been the go-to guy...as he put up 123 on 10 carries and 4 scores in the Bosse game, then 32-180 against Central, and 34-247 against Reitz. He did open the season with 143 on just 11 touches in the beating of Indian Creek. Happe can certainly pass the ball... 4 TDs against Whiting, 155 yards against Harrison, 275 and 4 TDs against North, 13 f 14 for 139 against Reitz, and 158 against Castle (but..4 picks). Up front it looks like this-- LT #61 Davidson (Sr 6'1 weight?), LT #73 Epley (Sr ^'1 260), C #51 Hile (Jr 5'9 195), RG #54 Bradford (Sr 5'0 210) and RT #63 Boots (Soph 6'1 200). Correct or not? Defensively I see Davidson at a DE, with Money on the other side. Two tackles Soph #50 Ralph (5'10 240) and Sr #72 Adler (6'3 240). Does anyone know Davidson's weight? I see two backers with 42 Jr Knight (6'0 180) and Sr #57 Fulz. Lannert, #12 a Sr 5'11 170 is the leading tackler going into last week with 66 from perhaps a safety position. I also see #17 Kasselback and #5 Merkley (Sr 5'1-0 170) in that DB groun, with #86 Taylor (Jr 5'11 67) and perhaps #3 Brandtley involved. Davidson is 2nd in tackles from DE, with Ralph 3rd from DT. The 2 Backers (Knight and Fulz) are 4th and 5th. Another big weapon I see is #28 Atherton the kicker.... 36 of 36 in PATs, 5 of 6 in field goals..with a long of 32. I am in the process of updating the Linton stats right now...
  7. Are you making the trip to Linton Cappy? If So.. be safe!! The roads are all clear thru Vincennes up 67 to Sandborn, and up 59!!! I'll be in the press booth which is in the middle of the visitor section!! LOL!
  8. I have attached a Word Document with info about all the Sectionals in 2a Week One if interested! But I will add this : Sectional 1.docx
  9. I have attached a Word Document you can check out! Sectional 1.docx
  10. Excellent Coach! Glad to hear from you. Course I know you'll coach it up..as I know you from the Valley days....Obviously a game like this is tough... but I think your kids certainly will benefit in playing MD...and it will make them better down the road. Best of luck to you....
  11. I really appreciate the kind words. Me and Darren work pretty seamless. I had a ton of fun with JP on the air though.. never knew what he was gonna say. he had a lot of field knowledge too having been a dang good player in his day. I needed a delay switch or emergency shut off button sometimes!!!
  12. yeah... he's back in the saddle. It's always hard to have someone come in who really doesn't do football.... He's done some basketball... and sat in last year one week for football. At the beginning I don't think we discussed who was doing what LOL... then I sorta realized I was gonna start doing play by play.. which is hard keeping stats at same time. You realize how good Darren is.. and how good we work together... whenever he isn't there. But I do thank Greg to stepping in there.. I didn't want to do it by myself.. the old voice can't hang LOL! Should have gotten JP in there for old time's sake LOL.. but he does the clock these days in the big boy booth!
  13. the Yellow Jackets as I recall... not that I was there! They tried to bring football back....
  14. Well I obviously haven't talked much about the Mater Dei / Crawford County. Not really a lot of ways to say it other than you just hope nobody comes out of this with an injury. Mater Dei travels to Marengo to face the 1-7 Wolfpack under Jeremy Reynolds in his 2nd year at the helm. The lone CC win came in week 4's 38-36 win over Rock Creek Academy. They've not been competitive in any other contest, giving up nearly 53 points a game, and being held under 10 offensively--- being shutout 3 times. Both of those numbers are in the 300's in terms of team rank in state. Then you draw 7-2 Mater Dei with legendary coach Mike Goebel's 23 year mark of 224-70 in round one. I suppose the one positive is that the game is a home game for Crawford County. I know the term "Any Given Night" is always pressed into service in games like this...but this would truly be ESPN mention worthy of an upset. We all know about who MD plays. We know their 2 defeats came to 5-4 5A Castle 13-0 and 10-3 to 8-1 4A Memorial... those losses by a combined 20 points! Beating 7-2 3A Indian Creek, 7-2 4A Central and a solid 5-4 5A North team... plus last week's 31-28 win over 4A Reitz... that despite a 3-6 record, would surely scoot through the teams in Sectional 40 easily. So it's a huge mountain not to mention the foothills that Mater Dei presents to the Wolfpack tonight...and honestly to everyone in Sectional 40. But...never say never I suppose. I can throw numbers out like Sagarin.... Mater Dei by 85.85. CC's is 317th in the state MD's 65.36 is 5th in 2A. The Wildcats have only played 1 opponent under 3A, that being a normally solid Whiting squad having a down year... I've talked schedule strength already ... enough said there. Prolly enough said all the way around. I've never been a coach.. my Dad was... I wonder how you approach a game like this almost on both sides. Easier of course with MD, just go out and do what you do...and the younger kids will get a lot of playing time, and I'd imagine a running clock to start 2nd half. For Coach Reynolds...of course nothing to lose...but you still gotta go out an play. Good luck to both teams and of course a safe night for all on the field, and on the road coming from and going back to Evansville...
  15. Yeah that is pretty intense for sure.... love that kinda stuff!
  16. As for the Rangers and the Marksmen... We played Forest Park last year first round, in the rain.. and they lost one of their best on the first play of the game to an ACL. They were very young, only 6 seniors.. 2 on Off and 2 on Def. Against us I show they started 3 freshman on offense including the QB. Coach Ross Fuhs had a lot coming back this year, and their current 5-4 record matches their 5 wins back in 2015. You gotta go back to 2010 for their best win season at 8-3, just two years from their first full season in 2008. They've only advanced past round 1 twice in their existence... and having beaten Tell City last week at Tell City 14-0 has to make them feel confident coming into Friday at Ferdinand. I must admit to being a little surprised at the score myself... and I wonder if Coach Aaron Clements left some things in the playbook thinking of this game..ultimately a more important game in the end. I doubt it because I'm sure the Marksmen wanted to win on senior night, and have momentum going into the sectional. It's only Clement's 2nd year at the helm, and his 5-4 mark is the most wins since a 6 win season in 2013. Sectionals haven't brought much success to Tell City of late, exiting after 1 game in each of the last four years, and 8 of the last 10. These two teams obviously play a lot of common foes, as well as the head to head last week. As with N.Posey, anyone in the PAC has to face and usually lose to Heritage Hills, Southridge and Gibson Southern. And that was this case for both teams this year, and by similar margins. Both teams beat the Commores of Perry Central (5-4 1a) with a 30-20 win for Forest Park, and a 12-6 battle for Tell City in that rivalry 1 week game. Both also handled the winless Chargers of Pike Central- 48-14 for TC, and a 42-0 shut out by FP. The one difference being the Vikings of North Posey (4-5) and the Marksmen got a big 41-13 win yet the Rangers took a 24-11 defeat. In terms of Sagarin, Tell City is the favorite by just 2.41. 34.08 for TC, 29.67 for FP. Both have pretty much the same SOS as they played the same schedule! The Markmen put up 21.67 per game offense against a Ranger D that allows 21.89. FP put up 17.44 per game against the Marksmen D allowing 20.67. All these numbers certainly would indicate two teams very very similar and equal in most ways. Both Senior Classes have lost 28 games, with TC winning 11 to FP's 12. Tell City won the 2018 meeting 28-0 which had ended a 3 game win streak by Forest Park (40-34 2017; 20-0 2016; and 40-34 in 2015). THis really should be a good ball game to see in person...
  17. My Dad and I went to a game at Reitz Field a long time ago...or was is Central.. or was in Enlow... dang that was a long time back. He played football at Evansville as a Proud Purple Ace.. he said they played their home games on several different fields... I think I saw the southridge-mater dei game online at the Reitz bowl...
  18. I think the Warriors are chomping at the bit to have a rematch with Linton... And I'd love to see that happen.... but right now we gotta think about North Posey... just a NK's gotta think Rebels. South Spencer has a history of winning football teams, but it's been a while. Their last winning season was 7-3 in 2013, and their last run in sectional was a loss in the championship to Mater Dei... They had a great run in 2003 going 11-3 before falling to Tri-West in the semi state 28-14. However they'd gone just 6 -23 counting this year and back through 2016. They got their one and only win this year in week 6 with a 62-12 win over winless Pike Central. They came close in week 7 losing to 5-4 Forest Park 14-7. As mentioned though, 4 of their 8 losses have come to quality opponents- 7-2 3A Gibson Southern, 7-2 3A Southridge, 9-0 3A Heritage Hills, and 7-1 Owensboro Catholic (Ky.) Add 5-4 Tell City and 5-4 Forest Park to the mix. The Warrior D has certainly be strong, just 12.1 ppg allowed. I'd assume the 22 they gave up to Washington was against JV later in the game. They've also put up 36.2 offensively, but their three losses were held to 13 or less. Those were to 6-3 3A Sullivan 15-12 in week 1, then 5-4 3A Vincennes Lincoln 12-6, and to 8-1 2A Linton 28-13. Quality win wise, their 44-12 win over 6-3 1A North Daviess in week 8, and perhaps the 34-20 win on the road over 4-4 4A Boonville would count. History hasn't been in NK favor in past meeting with the Rebels. Since '94 they've met 4 times, all S Spencer wins.. and all decisively by a collective 192-6 score. All of these were in sectional play: 2005 41-6; 2003 48-0; 2002 76-0; and 2001 27-0. In direct common opponents there is Boonville. NK winning at Boonville 34-20, with the Rebels fell big time 49-13. Certainly SAG ratings favor the Warriors on the road with a 27.7 margin. NK with the 17th highest 2A SAG at 49.03 compared to 19.37 for SS. The Rebels will have the edge in Schedule Strength, which is 15th in Class 2A, NK at 48th. Coach John Edge is in his 2nd year at South Spencer (3-16) and have bowed out in the first round each of his seasons. Josh Chambers is in year 5 with his Warriors, and have hovered around .500 the last three years (5-6, 4-6, 5-5) but are 1-4 in the sectionals his first 4 years. They beat Tell City in OT last year in the opening round. NK got some votes around mid-season in the polls, but the losses to the Alices and Miners back to back pushed them out. They have the 7th best scoring defense in 2A, 32nd in state, and have the 10th highest offensive scoring average in 2A. The Point Differential for NK is +24.1, while the Rebels are in the negative a -21.89. You would certainly consider NK a favorite to win this game, and I would definitely put them in the dark horse role in sectional 40 behind Linton and Mater Dei. Their draw couldn't have been any better. A road game..given that it's a long drive, but to a 1-8 opponent, then not having Linton or Mater Dei in their bracket. Forest Park and Tell City will hack it out in the other bottom bracket game-- which I'd would have given to the Marksmen..but the Rangers won 14-7 last week!
  19. Yeah I wanted to get NK in this discussion. It's a long trip to S Spencer... but they went to Boonville and showed no signs of travel woes... I see Richter has been back full health as well. Course The Rebels.. Like the North Posey Vikings... play in a conference with Heritage Hills, Gibson Southern and Southridge... and you add Tell City much improved as well as Forest Park. The Warriors have done well this year... but their best wins have come over 6-3 NDaviess and 4-4 4A Boonville. The Pioneers just blasted S Spencer.. so logic could be on NK's side for sure.
  20. they best worry about north vermillion. Maybe down the road PH will accept the Miner challenge instead of declining. But that's a discussion for another thread at another time. And I'm worn out from going back through it... but what memories it brought back. keaton cox was a heckuva of a play maker.
  21. I tell ya though.. it was a doozie of a game in 2017. A battle of wills. Miners drove 58 yards to open with a 7-0 lead on a Cash Howard 20 yard run. The VIkings were picked on the first offensive play for them by Dreydan Ward athe Miner 48, but after reaching the NP 24, Keaton's Cox' scramble fell a yard short. N.Posey tied things up with an 11 play 70 yard drive on an 18 yard Alex Stewart run at 1:02 in the 1st. Linton was driving again, 1st and 10 at the Viking 39 when Cox fumbled with Stewart recovering. NP moved as well, mixing the pass and the run effectively to the Miner 10 facing 3rd and 3, but a holding call pushed them back, resulting in Carter Martin missing a 39 yard Field Goal to the left nearly half way thru the 2nd. Linton took that momentum and had big running plays from Lannan (21 and 14) and Dyuer (27) to push into the red zone, with Cox scoring from 4 out at the 3:21 mark. Irish hit the PAT, and it's Miners 14-7. North Posey starts off at their own 45, gets to Miner 32 but after two failed passes to Corey Heath, the Miners wrap up Steward on a 4th and 13 to stop the threat. Halftime would see a pretty even contect.. 215-173 in total offense in Linton favor. THe Miners pretty much all on the ground (201) and the Vikings at 74/99 split. 2nd half would see North Posey go straight down the field. Stewart carrying 5 times for 64 yards including the 24 yard score, knots it up 14 all. But the Miners would answer in a flash, and Lannan busts up the guy for a 42 yard run setting up Cox running in from 10, and a 7:56 of 3rd Linton back on top with another Irish PAT, 21-14. By now both offense were moving the ball at ease. Stewart converted at 3rd and 1 at the Miner 29, then on 4th and 8 at the Linton 21 Stewart completed the half back pass to Jesse Kissel for a 21 yard score. Martin's PAT tied it up again at 21 with 4:28 in the 3rd. Viking D would finally force a Miner punt, but then Linton would force North Posey to do the same. Linton would go for a risky 4th and 1 and their own 42, and Cox barely got it, but they punt from midfield just into the 4th quarter. The set up the best NP drive of the night from their own 23, converting five 3rd downs along with was including 3rd and 9, 3rd and 8, and a 3rd and 13 TD pass from Drake Rogers to Austin Pearison of 22 yards...BUT, the PAT was blocked by Cash Howard...leaving the score 27-21 NO at the 3:58 mark of the game. Then almost incredulously... Linton answers in two plays. First Dyer broke from the Miner 19, 28 yards to the 47. Next Cox broke free for a 53 yard TD run that seemed like the dagger.. especially with Braiden Irish PAT putting Linton up 28-27 with just 3:32 left. The Dagger seemed to stab deeper when Steward fumbled the ball away at the Miner 47 on the first play of the next drive as Braxton Robinson came up with the ball. But the Miners couldn't ice the game away as two procedure calls and a swarming Viking defense force Linton to punt, but burying the Viking at their own 10 with 1:28 left. What happens in this final 1:28 is the things High School football players never forget, nor those lucky to have been at the game. First Stewart drops a pass, the ROgers scrambles nearly being sacked, but gains 11 for the NP21. I can remember plain as day, seeing the set up and knowing it was going to be a screen. You could see Steward leaning. The whole press box seemed to be yelling screen full vocal.. when it happened. Screen. Stewart makes the catch in the flat, a couple Miners lose footing, Steward amps up his speed, and down the screaming North Posey sideline he went Seventy-Nine yards to paydirt... absolutely switch of emotions as the Linton crowd goes silent where they had been in total screams second before...and vice versa the Viking throng now in total ectasy and NP players jump up and down and hug one another. The Vikings then hit the 2 point conversion on a pass, and were up 28-21 with a mere 59 seconds left. From their own 38, Cox was not going to give up, scrambling out of the pocket for 17 to the Viking 45. back to back passes (Robertson for 6, Lannan for 4) and another 1st down, but a huge hit on Lannan was deemed head to head contact... tack on 15 mre, and Linton is at the Viking 20. Cox again, scrambles for 9 diving out at the 11. 3rd and 1 an incomplete pass, the a crushing procedure call pushed miners back to the 16 on a 4th and 6... time for 1 play. Cox rolls to his right, NP has everyone covered, and seem to have Cox blocked in, but as we had seen from Keaton his entire Miner Career, he made people miss, darting in and around, and over to corner, hit about the 4, kept feet moving, downfield blocks from Dyer and Robertson… it actually looks like he’s gonna go down about the 2… but wait, #20 fellow senior Chance Howard comes flying in from nowhere to give a hearty lift and push to Cox, and it’s just enough as he leans the ball over the goal line in front of the official for a Miner Touchdown. 28-27… And no.. that’s not the PAT unit coming out… it’s the offense. People standing, both sides yelling. Going into the famed south endzone… Cox take snap, fakes handoff. Rolls left… everyone and their uncle thinks he’s gonna keep… but alas soph Avery Puckett has gone down 5 and out from tight end. He’s got several steps on the coverage… Can Cox put in on the mark… there she flies… Boom.. The Catch… Puckett hauls it in. Miner fans erupt. Miners only have to kick off .. which they do… and after 4 or 5 laterals, the game is over. Linton advances 29-28. What an effort on both sides for both teams. Miners rushed for 439 on 52 carrues, Cox with 192, 4 TDs on 20 carries, 13-116 for Lannan, 12-91 for Dyer. Cox 4 of 9 passing but just 24 yards, 3 of those to Robertson for 20. Stewart ran 32 times for 155 yards and 2 scores. He had the bulk of their 184 yards on 41 carries. Rogers threw for 230 on 14 of 24 passing, 2 TDs... and Stewart was actually 2 of 2 for 45 and a TD. Both teams had stellar efforts on the defensive side. Rishie Meyer with 12 tackles, Stewart, Wyatt Like and Rogers all with 10. Linton Chance Howard finished with 20 tackles, 2 for loss, Drake Cunningham 12, 9 from Lannan. Irish was 4 of 4 on PATs for Linton, Martin 3 of 4 for North Posey. A game for the ages for sure. Of those players on that field that night, Linton will have Dyer, Howard, Lannan, Mongeau, Robertson, and Puckett back on the field this Friday. I don't see that any the Vikings current players were an active part of this game two years ago.
  22. I haven't seen any of that in any of the footage I have watched.... it was a sight to see though back in 2017!!
  23. I just started doing research on North Posey... they don't do Maxpreps... so no real info to find! I thought Linton played it's best half of football on both sides of the ball in the first half last week against Providence. But Providence certainly wasn't a passing threat... just 0-5, and their QB/LB was in street clothes. Looks like the Vikings toss it around a lot more using like a Pistol set with #13 Jaxon Wiggins at QB, a junior 6'0 165, and #9 Zach Lowe a 5'10 160 senior at WB. Got some big boys..as we have faced all year... #70 Chase Christie, junior 6'4 270, #78 Zach Myers 6'4 275, #58 Caleb Doubler Jr 6'7 290, a big TE in #44 Nate Willman Sr 6'2 210, and another skill player in #21 Tristan Martin, Se 6'0 160.
