Questions about the new Elkhart High School
BDGiant93 replied to a topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
"Play as many sports as you can for as long as you can." --Dick Dullaghan -
Let's say that by the competition factor that 6A would have the 32 most successful programs over a given period by some mathematical algorithm. Then 5A would have the next 32 and then so on. I guess the only thing you might fight is the perception that some of the low schools would be seen as "losers" or something. It might also have the unintended consequence of the "rich get even richer."

Calling all High School Historians

They were also the Owls, right? -
Enrollment figures
BDGiant93 replied to TheStatGuy's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Makes for some messy travel in 6A Sectionals. Lafayette Jeff probably has to go up I-65 and Noblesville up I-69 if Crimsonace's great enrollment projections are correct. -
Conference Schedules
BDGiant93 replied to Indiana Fan's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
The MIC shuffled a few years back because it seemed that the teams would often play in the final weeks and then end up playing in the first round of Sectional. They shuffled so that the teams wouldn't have to play back-to-back or close to back-to-back from reg. season to the tourney. Then Pike/LC joined and that necessitated a bit of shuffling of games again. This was particularly bad for NC/Warren/LN/LC who often end up in the same Sectional. -
webcast who had good who was bad

Center Grove does a great job with their webstream. Also, the MIC Network is great. -
I believe BD won quite a few of those. Maybe losing only one. It was definitely BD's highpoint in the rivalry with Warren which has historically been dominated by the Warriors.
-
Yeah, I stopped posting. My point was made. I think many agree with me. Sorry for contributing to the hijacking.
-
Plus, if they dropped them, it would seem to be a two year deal. Home & Away then picking up again after. Just seemed weird.
-
Sorry! It actually solves a mystery for me because it didn't seem reasonable that BD would drop Warren for one year and pick them up again. I mean, they've played EVERY year since 1937.
-
OK, that makes sense. And the all in didn't come until 1985.
-
Not according to our records. That was the 1984 Sectional. In 1983, BD played Warren week 2. 1984-85 8 24 North Central (Indianapolis) L 12 20 North Central (Indianapolis) Dick Dullaghan 0 wins 1 loss Lost 2 (155-266-12) 8 31 Indianapolis Northwest W 8 6 Indianapolis Northwest 1 win 1 loss Won 1 (156-266-12) 9 7 Decatur Central W 28 21 2OT Ben Davis 2 wins 1 loss Won 2 (157-266-12) 9 15 Southport W 26 7 Hoosier Dome 3 wins 1 loss Won 3 (158-266-12) 9 21 Indianapolis Manual W 28 7 Indianapolis Manual 4 wins 1 loss Won 4 (159-266-12) 9 28 Indianapolis Washington L 11 18 Ben Davis 4 wins 2 losses Lost 1 (159-267-12) 10 5 Perry Meridian L 7 13 Ben Davis 4 wins 3 losses Lost 2 (159-268-12) 10 12 Terre Haute South W 27 7 Terre Haute South 5 wins 3 losses Won 1 (160-268-12) 10 19 Carmel L 21 28 Carmel 5 wins 4 losses Lost 1 (160-269-12) 10 24 Warren Central L 8 61 Ben Davis 5 wins 5 losses Lost 2 (160-270-12) 176 188 O.A. 17.6, D.A. 18.8 5 wins 5 losses

Has Indiana Become a Football State?
BDGiant93 replied to JeffO2's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I don't know if football has taken over the top spot from basketball, but Indiana has become MORE of a football state...especially since the Colts have been good. -
I definitely remember seeing that game in the BD/Warren series highlights. That was Coach D's first year at BD. Interestingly, 1984 is the only year Warren and BD did not play in the regular season since 1937.
-
Yes he did.

When Coach D retired, I sat down with him to do a 30 minute interview. After 57 minutes, he had to go. He talked about his career in coaching, and he talked about what brought him to BD. He wanted to get back into high school coaching, and he'd been back from West Point only a few days with Dr. James Mifflin, the principal at BD, contacted him about their coaching opening. Coach D remembered playing BD in 1977 in the Sectional and how they drubbed him. He said he knew that BD was a sleeping Giant. He came, chatted, and secured the job. First two years, he went 8-11. It went much better after that.
