  1. Taught in that community for two years. It's going to take more than coaching, IMO. No disrespect to FC. I love the school, and I had a great experience teaching there. Great kids. Things change, though. I am very likely wrong.
  2. That would be good for Center Grove and bad for Franklin Central.
  3. Hey look! It's DT playing Conference Frankenstein again.
  4. It's really no different than probably what brought Stan Benge back to Ben Davis in girls basketball. Stan not only won championships here, but he's a Ben Davis Alumnus. BD is home. Warren is home for Mike.
  5. As for those here questioning his motives. Warren is home. It's his alma mater. I think that broke any tie.
  6. I am very happy for Mike Kirschner and for his wife Terry. They are high school sweethearts, and they now get to be back at the alma mater. Mike is a first-rate and first class individual who is exactly the person you think he is. I have nothing but high regard for him as a man, a father, a coach, and, most importantly, a friend. His heart is as big as his personality, and I'm truly pleased he's going to get a shot to lead the Warriors after a coaching career that has truly brought him full circle. Warren as an assistant to Cascade to Ben Davis to Mount Vernon...now back to Warren again. Nothing but respect and admiration from this Giant. Mike's a True Warrior. We just borrowed him for a few years. He'll always also be a Giant to me.
  7. The IHSAA does gymnastics to make sure that districts never get split.
  8. Are you saying strength coaches do not have teaching responsibilities because I would think that many would dispute that.
  9. At one time, Ben Davis' Giants Stadium was named Dr. Sidney Spencer Field. That name went by the wayside. It's now just Giants Stadium.
  10. Well, you can say that. I'm just telling you that if there's ghost employment going on in schools then that's a crime. It's in Indiana Code.
  11. There are no made up positions. They all have to be listed somewhere in a job description and someone's teaching responsibilities and schedule are set by the district. You're suggesting some sort of "ghost employment" scenario which cannot happen by state law. So, you can hire a teacher and make them whatever you want, but that has to be an on the book position. Not sure what West's duties were at Warren, but he was listed as Assistant Athletic Director. That means he had a teacher's contract plus whatever stipend the AAD got and whatever the Head Football Coach got. I honestly don't know how "lay coaches" work. A fancy name for "Merit pay".
  12. Teacher raises are completely negotiated by unions and admin. There's no formula. Each school also gets a share of the TAG (Teacher Appreciation Grant) to dole out with stipulations. Pay scales are no longer in effect in most districts. Wayne Township, for example, did away with its scale in last contract negotiation. You start at a base rate and then raises are negotiated. So, where ever you were on the scale, that's where you are now. In Wayne Township, new teachers are locked at the bottom until raises (if any) are negotiated. Coaching pay is set by the extracurricular amounts negotiated by the union in Wayne. Teacher salary + coaching amount.
  13. MaxPreps for years referred to Ben Davis as Davis High School. I tried to explain to them that Ben Davis is not named after a person directly but the community of Ben Davis (which barely exists anymore). They never were interested in my many opportunities to correct them. I believe they finally changed the name when the BD girls basketball team had their run to the National Championship in 2009 and they realized no one called Ben Davis just Davis. The community of Ben Davis derives(d) its name from a Vandalia Railroad Executive who got a stop on the railroad for the community. That was the Ben Davis stop and the community became known as Ben Davis.
  14. They might pursue him, but I can't imagine Mike coming back into the MIC. Not at this stage of his career. Been there, done that, has the t-shirt. I would have to root for him though.
  15. HAHAHA. Ask Criss Beyers. He did the same thing in basketball.
  16. Mike Kirschner left with no immediate intention of going anywhere else. Mount Vernon came after him. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/12/07/ihsaa-football-warren-central-coach-jayson-west-leaves-franklin-central-indiana/6481998002/ Kyle Neddenriep's story. I respect Jayson West a lot. He is a good man, and I hope he does well at FC. He's done a good job at Warren Central.
