  1. It doesn’t have the comedic value.
  2. It’s been 8 years, and this is still my 2nd favorite college football play of all time.
  3. Remember that night well. We dressed in the storage room where the band kept its instruments. As we were getting ready, some band kids walked in to pick up their stuff. I’m pretty sure most of them have completed the necessary psychotherapy by now.
  4. If you put money on him in Vegas to win the Heisman, you’re kicking yourself. He went from -110 to +2200 overnight. Might be worth a flier at that price.
  5. Our blood enemies have been vanquished. Always nice to send those punks back to La La Land with their tails tucked between their legs. Now, use this as a springboard to finish the season strong. We’ve got several items on the agenda, and the one I am most looking forward to is wiping that smug expression off Dabo’s face in a few weeks.
  6. I bet most of the people reading this don’t know what you’re talking about. … But I do.
  7. My “oh my” team of the week is 3A Hanover Central. They moved to a new conference this year, clearly stepping up a level in competition. Nevertheless, they blew through an undefeated conference schedule and last Friday completed a perfect 9-0 regular season.
  8. Although most of this post was incoherent, I gather you felt the officiating left something to be desired. Can you be more specific? I likely can get access to the game video, and can look at a play or plays, if you can specifically point to them.
  9. So, what happened here is easily explained, it turns out. After an administrative stoppage, the play clock is set at 0:25 and starts on the R’s ready for play signal. The linesman had not yet gotten to his position on the visiting sideline, so the R had not yet signaled the ball ready. Elkhart ran up to the line in a hurry to try and draw New Prairie into the neutral zone, and it worked. But since the ball had not been made ready for play, there was no foul. The R was yelling to the QB “wait, wait” but they started to run the play anyway. So, no foul. The U should not have moved off the ball until all crew members were in position.
  10. Apparently, someone from the stands was shining a laser on the field. I’ve had it happen before. The more interesting development is the flag that was thrown for defensive encroachment, and then, apparently picked up, once they resumed play. I can’t figure out what happened. There is actually a potential foul on the offense for a false start by the man going in motion. Pretty obvious that the intent of the play was to cause the defense to encroach. But they didn’t enforce a penalty on the offense either. I actually know this Referee. I’ll see if I can find out more. One thing: the Elkhart head coach is lucky he’s not on the phone with the IHSAA explaining why he got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. He might be upset, but he can’t be out at the numbers complaining to the officials. They gave him an awful lot of leeway.
  11. The question is “who is #65 pushing?” From the replay, it looks like he was in contact with the tackler. No foul.
  12. Since we moved to the 40 sec. play clock, on most plays R does not blow the whistle. On such plays, the ball is considered “ready” when the U has placed it and moved away.
  13. I’ll be as unambiguous as possible. The tight end, assuming he’s on the end of the line, may put a hand or hands on or near the ground, and then pick up, without it being a false start.
  14. Warsaw comes back with a drive of their own. Northridge goal line stand stones the Tigers at the 3.
  15. Northridge takes the opening kickoff and goes on a 7:30 drive. 7-0 over Warsaw.
  16. False start restrictions begin when the ball is ready for play.
  17. I’ll be in the house … and I brought my rain gear.
  18. Of course everyone wants to win … the more, the better. But sometimes in our zeal to win, we forget that high school coaches are teachers, first. A teacher’s job is to help turn those kids into productive members of society. At the high school level, W-L record is not the most important thing. At least, it shouldn’t be. Now, when you find a coach who does both well, you’ve got something.

    IU 2023

I don’t follow IU football. But correct me if I’m wrong. The guy who leads the nation in passing was once on scholarship at IU, but couldn’t get the job done? Guess he can play after all.
  20. Correct, only players on the end of the line can pick up, once they’ve placed a hand or hands on or near the ground.
  21. That would be true … if the tournament were seeded.
