  1. I just realized Memorial’s senior class has played their entire career in 4A due to things that happened when they were in 6th and 7th grade. Lucky for them the IHSAA thinks winning sectional is enough success and they don’t need to go any deeper in the playoffs.
  2. I feel like I have heard an opposite story from other officials. The head coach ASKED for a flag post-halftime so he justify his complaint to the AD about the band. Presumably there was a personal beef between the HC and Band Director. Which wouldn't be the first time.
  3. Reminds me of the mid-90's when North Posey played at North Montgomery or 2018 when Marion played at Evansville Central for the "South" semi-states.
  4. I wish that picture was in 3D so we could see if the field will still have an 18 inch crown on it for drainage purposes. 🙂
  5. Congratulations. And just my .02, but trying to conceive during football season isn't the worst thing. Because win or lose... you still win. 😎 Edit: and please forgive me for straying off topic. lol
  6. Mater Dei has improved over the first 3 weeks, IMO. They always figure things out as the season progresses. Look at 2020 for example. Started the year 1-4 and still made it to semi-state.
  7. Completely agree about the rarity of the perfect situation. Does the clock start when touched by a member of the receiving team? Touchback if it reaches the endzone, correct? Otherwise it's treated like a Kickoff?
  8. I think there are a few HS who have started "officiating" as PE class for upper grade students. The goal being to teach them a little about officiating and even get them licensed as patched officials. No offense to avid bowlers and pickleball players out there, but I would rather see students enrolled in that than a Lifetime Sports PE class. I attended a MS volleyball game last week (read: torture lol) and someone remarked that the HS girl working as a line judge was doing so as a requirement for her officiating class. This is all secondhand info but I'm fairly certain it is happening, and a positive change IMO.
  9. These two matchups really intrigue me. It will be interesting to see how they stack up.
  10. @AW0352 @JustRules FYI - the same individual was on the home sideline for the Bosse @ Central WK 2 game last Friday. Don't know if it was the same crew and they just have a 6th man?
  11. Kind of a strange non-sequitur, but I can assure you it's NOT Mason Wunderlich. I believe Tate Mallory played QB last Friday.
  12. I am still curious about this. Have you seen an official (read: IHSAA) statement about FW Dwenger dropping to 4A for Fall 2023? Barring a 5A regional win, they will drop for fall 2024, but the only thing I can find is this: https://www.ihsaa.org/sites/default/files/documents/Football TSF 2022-23 2023-24.pdf Dwenger is listed on the last page Schools Competing in Larger Enrollment Classification in 2022-23 and 2023-24 Due to Rule 2-5 I just ask, because 4A north is currently 'full' with 4 sectionals of 8. The only bye is down in Sectional 24. There would need to be at least 3 sectionals affected/redrawn and moving someone south. Or the alternative would be to move Kokomo up to 5A as the largest school, but that would still mean reshuffling 19 & 20, and maybe even 18.
  13. Curious which model (and cost if you don't mind) you use? I've seen the Dartmouth robot tackling drills on YouTube but I've always wondered if it was feasible at the HS level from a budget standpoint.
  14. I am curious to see if HH really goes to a spread or if they go back to the bone once things get tight.
  15. That would make too much sense. But anything to make EVSC AD’s lives easier. Plus now they can pay 1/2 hour less of Bud the janitor’s triple OT wages to clean up the locker rooms.
  16. Are fans allowed to watch? 😀
  17. Fair points, but I don't know that I could say the bold part is true of ALL schools. And a 'thud' 11 v 11 is a different animal than a live play, tackled to the ground. The maximum is 48 plays per athlete in the scrimmage, which amounts to about 1.5 quarters to a half of a game. Professional athletes in the NFL have pre-season games where they play less than a half, so I think HS athletes could use the same. I would rather see a jamboree style event with offense/defense and turnovers on downs.
  18. I would like to hear your reasoning for this. I don't like this idea, because I don't think 10 practices is enough to prepare a player for a full 48 minute game. At least one that "counts" in a W/L sense. There are 387 basketball shootouts and 127 baseball tournaments over the summer, so some teams really don't have a full roster until Practice day 1. Several Evansville schools give the last week of July off to hit the ground running on the first practice day. But I still saw plenty of football players take that week to play one last AAU tournament or baseball showcase. If the season were extended an additional game, it should come in October, not August.
  19. I can see why a fully seeded state tournament would be popular, especially amongst the Indy donut coaches. I agree 6A would be the perfect place to do it. It only works if there is some sort of geographic restrictions. Just looking at Illinois last year, their playoffs resulted in several St. Louis suburb schools (East St. Louis, Belleville, Collinsville) playing Chicago suburb schools - a 5 hour drive by car - for first round playoff games. East St Louis drove to Oak Lawn, IL to win 71-0. At least the win made the 10 hour round trip worth it, I guess. .
  20. The crazy thing is they redrew 2A south a few years ago, meaning EMD would potentially face Triton Central in the regional, if both teams advance. So after all the success the last 4 years, the MD Wildcats may never be bumped to to 3A.
  21. I wouldn’t be upset to be proven wrong. As they absolutely would be 4A once the rolling SF model takes effect.
  22. My guess tells me the 4A comment was made by a newscaster who misread the new rolling points factor. Starts next year. I would go with the IHSAA document that states their 5A until I hear otherwise.
  23. Honestly, that isn’t bad form. She should keep running her feet post contact, especially with the higher impact point. But the eye tracking and footwork to get into proper position are superb!
  24. Let’s not forget what is really important: making game day scheduling and operations easier for these ADs.
