  1. @Bobref I am curious your thoughts - not about this play in general, but the NFL practice of mixing crews for the postseason. This kind of play is difficult to officiate obviously. But I can’t imagine the pressure of conferring with a wing and back judge you might never have worked with to decide the correct call on national TV.
  2. Tell me you don’t know Coach Goebel without telling me. The closed conference and zero effort put into football scheduling are not viewed as problems by those who would have the power to change it. The only way the conference will change will be if one of the non-Vanderburgh schools decides to leave.
  3. If I’m all powerful, I swap GS for VL and use those divisions. I could also be talked into adding GS and MV to the west and moving VL to east with traditional rival Jasper. Boonville frankly doesn’t want any part of the SIAC, of their own admission.
  4. East-West or North-South, I am all for a position crossover night. If you are big/small then I don’t see the point. The division of big-small is made so the #4 and #5 small wouldn’t have to play the big boys unless they want to. Presumably the competitive smalls like Concordia and Luers will already schedule some of those games anyway.
  5. As far as the SIAC, you have identified a football-only issue. And with regards to scheduling, 7 of the schools don’t even view it as a problem. The only way it changes is if Vincennes decides the ‘new’ Big PAC is a better fit or Jasper/Castle decides to move towards Bedford and Bloomington.
  6. I think we all would have enjoyed some GS-EM matchups over the last 3 years. Instead we are stuck with message board arguments and website projections like this: PROJECT A MATCHUP neutral field [2021] Gibson Southern (Fort Branch, IN) 35, [2018] Reitz Memorial (Evansville, IN) 34
  7. I would think a law firm in Raleigh could grab some PR and notoriety by filing a class action suit on behalf of Wolfpack families. Then again, there are plenty of legal experts on here, and I am NOT one of them. I barely passed Intro to Business Law.
  8. Agreed! These kind of lists always makes me wonder what would the GID look like in the mid-90s. Jerry Brewer and Bob Clayton. Will they get bored winning against their competition and step up to coach an Indy school? No way do the up and coming coaches Mike Goebel and Reed May spend their careers at one school. HS football coaches don’t think like fans (that’s a good thing) and always look for the next big thing.
  9. My guess is that is the same league, or made up of many of the same characters (literally and figuratively.) Especially the ex-college and wannabe remark. 😀 We played a team from Fairdale as well as a ‘Kentuckiana’ team at a middle school in New Albany. Our last game was played on an open field somewhere in southwest Louisville. No goal posts, which didn’t matter because you went for 1 or 2 like in a flag league. An opposing player didn’t like the whooping we were putting on him and got ejected mid 4th quarter. He proceeded to get in his truck and drive across the field scattering players.
  10. Yes. Illinois selects the 256 teams (32 x 8 ) for its playoff, then determines classes. (P/P have a multiplier as well.) Seeding is generally 1-16 in the north and 1-16 in south. But 7&8A are so concentrated by Chicago, they usually don’t bother and do all 1-32. Which results in Metro East schools like Edwardsville and O’Fallon going to Chicago suburbs for 1st round games. At least they mandate Saturday games between 1-7pm for all unless BOTH teams agree to switch. I like their playoff format except one major flaw. State championships are NIU. Going to DeKalb isn’t much of a reward for making the finals. 😂
  11. I played one year in an adult 8 man league post-college. We started the year solely 2 TE, I formation but started experimenting with this new-fangled Shotgun formation. Lol I can imagine in today’s RPO world, all that space could cause some high scoring games.
  12. Thanks and thanks to @whiteshoesas well. Just so I’m clear - In 6A, teams don’t know if they are Div 1 or 2 until after the regular season and 4 playoff teams are determined? (Although technically the largest 2 and smallest 2 in a district would know, but the middle teams may not.)
  13. @whiteshoes Can you give me a quick rundown of Texas’ playoffs? For example, I just watched Westlake win the 6A Division 2 championship on TV. So they are the small half of the largest class championship? Is that how it works?
  14. There is absolutely no objective measure that puts WeBo in 2A without also putting Chatard in 3A. Neither should happen, IMO
  15. I think they should reset all classes by enrollment, which would be used for the next 2 years. SCF placements: Cathedral 6A, FW Dwenger, Columbus East & New Pal 5A, Chatard & Ev Memorial 4A, Western Boone 3A. Southridge 2A (assuming enrollment places them there.) I’m hazy about the 1-2A line and I probably forgot a northern team. That to me seems like a logical approach, which is why I am not sure it happens.
  16. I hope this is the case - along with success factor bumps. The IHSAA gets many things right. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how they seem to overcomplicate the classification/sectional assignment process. I would think a computer algorithm to minimize travel distances between schools is a senior level Computer Science project.
  17. I just assumed he would transition into the HC at Mooresville in a few years. But I didn’t remember that he was an Indian Creek alum. Makes sense. Great hire.
  18. I’m sorry. The MIC is much, much than an athletics conference. The Moose out front should have told you.
  19. UIndy is in a great position, IMO. Now that St Joseph is gone, they are the only D2 school in the state. Unlike the FBS and FCS schools, they can give partial scholarships. Big advantage IMO.
  20. I'm gonna pop some popcorn and watch this one unfold. I have very - read VERY - limited knowledge of Indianapolis and the MIC. But I have always been surprised Franklin Central and Perry Meridian weren't already MIC schools. Will the HCC accept the two and close off football scheduling with 10 members?
  21. Congratulations to these very deserving coaches and assistants.
  22. Perhaps the IHSAA should allow schools to petition DOWN a class? At least for a cycle. I think of schools like Crawford County (0 - 12 or 13) and Pike Central (1 for 35?) who have had no postseason success. Crawford has now dropped to 2A but were 3A for awhile and has never won a postseason game in its history. Pike has been solidly 3A but only once in the early 2000's have won a single 3A tournament game. They both field teams in the 20-30 player range. I'm not going to agree to a forced minimum standard to play varsity football. That is a local decision.
