  1. Under no circumstances, could their actions be considered to be that of a "Bro Coach." (Wasn't that a issue on here many moons ago?) I don't have any names to add, but as someone who has followed the state of education and athletics in Indiana, I am a little worried about the future of the coaching profession. Not trying to derail the conversation, as I recognize some of the names already mentioned and they are deserving. Just making a general observation.
  2. @HHF Question from a fellow businessman. Why did you title this thread DT’s Dandy Dozen? If you want to promote your brand, shouldn’t you re-title it HHF’s dandy dozen? It seems akin to GM running Pontiac ads or Ford promoting Mercury. Just a thought.
  3. I think the PAC is where VL ultimately ends up. But I could see a nice little football-only conference with VL, Linton, and some of the WIC schools. It would make for some good matchups on the gridiron but wouldn't require other sports to travel. I think that is where VL is stuck right now. I just can't imagine sending a girls volleyball team from VL to Brown County (WIC) or Tell City (PAC) on a school night seems like a good idea. But they could make for some good football as an independent.
  4. Any success factor adjustment that puts Chatard in 3A and WeBo in 2A is a sham. As @jets pointed out, Southridge was 3A for 3 years after winning ONE title. To make WeBo 3A for one year after winning THREE 2A titles would be absurd.
  5. Great topic for a thread. Horrible title though… but I digress Mid 2000’s the IHSAA tried a 4 year cycle for enrollment. Circa 2003-07 I think? It turned out poorly. I agree that 4 year enrollment counts are way too long. Two years works for enrollment. Four years would be the right length of time to measure program success factor and not just one outstanding class. My perfect world: 2 year enrollment cycles. 4 year rolling SF points. If that means sectionals have to be redrawn in ‘off’ years so be it. They seemed to be able to handle that when Carmel was involved last time around.
  6. It was always going to be tough sledding as the smallest public school in the SIAC. I think the football program was better prepared for the increased competition but not all sports were, which is why the withdrawal is happening IMO. I hope the Alices are able to keep a few SIAC teams on their football schedule.
  7. Is Roncalli allowed to determine the head coach's pay? Is it the same for Chatard, Scecina, and Ritter? The Evansville Diocese sets the stipend for head coaches and number of assistant coaches to be the same at Memorial and Mater Dei. This is true in all sports, not just football.
  8. I think he was referring to trading out Washington for another of the PAC juggernauts like Pike Central, Tell City, Forest Park, or Tecumseh to form the new Big 8. Personally, I think Jasper leaves the SIAC right after Michigan leaves the Big Ten to join the MAC.
  9. I saw that as well. Big news in Indianapolis and 4A football. He is returning to Cincinnati area.
  10. All four things can be true at the same time, and it’s ok to admit. 1. NP and MTV had their best teams in a decade, which jumped their Sagarin ratings for 2021. 2. Over the last decade, Seven (inc. Jasper) of the best 10 teams in SW Indiana are in the SIAC. 3. GS won the 2021 3A state championship 4. Those blue rings will shine just as bright, no matter who the competition was in the regular season and tournament
  11. Punishing players for mistakes is a huge part of coaching but not all. Occasionally you would need to try to correct the behavior. So I am not sure 3 series would be the proper punishment. I would go straight to permanent benching for bad tackling form until the player can do it right. Daily ‘Bull in the Ring’ sessions and 1v1 live tackling drills should do it. Once the player proves he’s tough enough, then about 15-20 rounds of Oklahoma drill and he should be ready to go.
  12. Chicago has 31 football teams that play in a "Chicago Public League" and do not participate in the state tournament. I'm not sure exactly why. I would assume it's heavily based in socioeconomics and politics - just a guess on my part. But would IPS ever move in that direction? Create an IPS only conference to include Tech, Attucks, Shortridge, Washington? (There may be more, I just can't seem to keep up with all their changes.)
  13. Why are you going to disrespect Barry Duff like that?
  14. If NASCAR drivers would just embrace and use the techniques taught in defensive driving courses, there would be no crashes.
  15. That puts them solidly as a 4A school. Any question as to which sectional they will be put in @Lysander?
  16. By my count, that puts FW Northrop as #31, assuming Cathedral is SF to 6A as #32, making WL Harrison the team that benefits and its the largest of 5A.
  17. Yes. All the coaches are Heads-up certified. I was going to post that it's Heads Up/ Hawk tackle technique but didn't want to open up a can of worms about the nuanced differences between the two. LOL Tackles are like snowflakes. They are all unique and never happen the same way twice. So teaching just "one way" to do it is short-sighted IMO. Dang it, I'm getting all philosophical again.
  18. I agree with Foxbat and @Grover. The opinion piece seems a bit dated. My sons youth league has been teaching these mechanics for at least 4-5 years.
  19. I agree with your thought process. I can't imagine a school just deciding to go independent. Linton did this a few years ago, but it wasn't until several years of discussion and they had outgrown their conference in terms of competitiveness. I would think a school would put out feelers and have talks with where they want to end up before they would jump ship. Thus far, it's all just rumor and speculation. Vincennes did just change principals the first of the year. Any administration change I have witnessed always came with rumors of proposed changes - whether there was any truth to them or not.
  20. @Bobref I am curious your thoughts - not about this play in general, but the NFL practice of mixing crews for the postseason. This kind of play is difficult to officiate obviously. But I can’t imagine the pressure of conferring with a wing and back judge you might never have worked with to decide the correct call on national TV.
  21. Tell me you don’t know Coach Goebel without telling me. The closed conference and zero effort put into football scheduling are not viewed as problems by those who would have the power to change it. The only way the conference will change will be if one of the non-Vanderburgh schools decides to leave.
  22. If I’m all powerful, I swap GS for VL and use those divisions. I could also be talked into adding GS and MV to the west and moving VL to east with traditional rival Jasper. Boonville frankly doesn’t want any part of the SIAC, of their own admission.
  23. East-West or North-South, I am all for a position crossover night. If you are big/small then I don’t see the point. The division of big-small is made so the #4 and #5 small wouldn’t have to play the big boys unless they want to. Presumably the competitive smalls like Concordia and Luers will already schedule some of those games anyway.
  24. As far as the SIAC, you have identified a football-only issue. And with regards to scheduling, 7 of the schools don’t even view it as a problem. The only way it changes is if Vincennes decides the ‘new’ Big PAC is a better fit or Jasper/Castle decides to move towards Bedford and Bloomington.
  25. I think we all would have enjoyed some GS-EM matchups over the last 3 years. Instead we are stuck with message board arguments and website projections like this: PROJECT A MATCHUP neutral field [2021] Gibson Southern (Fort Branch, IN) 35, [2018] Reitz Memorial (Evansville, IN) 34
