If only Rode had a younger sister who played volleyball. Then she could transfer without much notice. Once that was ok, then he could have transferred knowing that it couldn’t be denied. This is all hypothetical by the way.

Ummm. Wood Memorial? Where to begin… I wouldn’t say you ‘missed’ it. But it was a whole thing.

I think Tecumseh is fine, at least based on where the school is located, a few miles west of Lynnville and IN-61. It’s actually straight south of Oakland City when I pulled it up on Google maps. I never would have guessed that.

As Summer comes to a close...

I would agree with this idea. I think that probably is the best way to handle it. I will point out that there have been fights/skirmishes at NFL joint practices. So even at the highest levels, chippyness can get out of hand. -
No love for the Hatchets, eh? Lol

Mt Carmel gets turf

If Reitz Bowl would ever upgrade its lights from their 1970’s, I would put it number one. I don’t mind a track, as long as it’s a legitimate setup, like Central Stadium. Enlow’s old configuration, where the track ran under the visitor stands or whatever Hatchet Hollow is supposed to be- I can do without. I am a fan of SS and VL. Decades ago when I would scout next week’s opponent, I would make note of how many visiting players were more interested in talking to fans than the game. One time at SS, a visiting backup had a full 5 minute conversation with a cheerleader while the game was going on. I really hope it worked out for that young man, because he was trying hard to impress her. Lol -
Not sure about your 9-8. It looks like 9-4 to me, through 2013. Unless PAC wins count double? http://www.almanacsports.com/football/series.php?team1=PIKEC&team2=BOS http://www.almanacsports.com/football/series.php?team1=WAS&team2=BOS (Bosse won, but forfeited in 2012) http://www.almanacsports.com/football/series.php?team1=PRI&team2=BOS

If you include Princeton and Washington, you should also include Boonville to be consistent.

What about a team that goes 9-0 and only returns 2 offensive starters the next year? Is a joke to expect them to take a step back? I would disagree with Mr 812 and think the JCats should be much higher on the rankings. They are a tough bunch and it’s gonna take a solid team to beat them. But in the preseason, every team has ?? that won’t be answered until they get into live action.

The pre-season favorites for the south (alphabetically) 21: Brebeuf, Mooresville, Roncalli 22: Mt Vernon, New Palestine 23: East Central, Silver Creek 24: Jasper, Memorial, Reitz I think the sectional winners will come from that group, and I would guess the eventual state champ as well.

6A Season Outlook--Discuss
oldtimeqb replied to Footballking16's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I can't speak for others, but IMO if you define "failure" in HS football based solely on W-L record, you don't get the point of HS football. -
Transfer or move? Not to argue semantics but that is a world of difference, IMO. The Spegal family moving from Muncie to New Palestine should not be scrutinized as heavily as a player that switches schools without an actual address change.

Any updates from the Bears squad?

This is not directed at HH or Reitz, but both teams have had multiple 11 on 11 scrimmages this summer. Are teams choosing one-off scrimmages now instead of overnight team camps hosted at a college? That seems to be the case IMO, but curious what it’s like around the state.

I like the rule change. Heck, I'm so old I got flagged for a direct from center "spike" to kill the clock in the last two minutes. The kind man in the white hat explained to me that was legal on Sundays, but not on Fridays. But can you clarify the above? I could see going out of bounds a foot short of the LOS, but I'm having trouble picturing a ball that lands (which I interpret as hit the ground) short of the LOS still gaining the exception.

Recruiting $ervices only exist for one reason. They have quickly become the travel ba$eball for football players. I wonder if I can trade in my vacation timeshare for a gold or platinum package of my son’s highlights?

Heritage Hills looked like they would beat Gibson Southern by 3 TD's. (I wasn't there, but that is what you REALLY wanted to ask, wasn't it?) 😄

If you are going to republish TigerFan, he might want to learn the name of Mater Dei’s coach. Just my .02

I thought the proposal was that 8 man would be a spring sport? Since it will offered by non 11 man schools, it wasn’t going to be an issue. I guess that has changed since it does sound like they are planning on this fall.

And I am fully prepared to defend my stance ‘it depends.’ Lol Regarding 5A, I would say yes you need to be able to throw it. But the 1, 2, and 3A levels it is possible to win without throwing the ball. As teams get bigger and the ability to to two platoon gets easier, I say no. At 1A where a team has the same 11 guys who get minimal defense practice, a good rush attack is tough. But at the bigger classes (take Noblesville for example) when an opponent has bigger DL and all 11 can work on a defense game plan all week, the threat of a pass has to be there.

I was a big fan of Bob Lovell’s radio program on Friday nights. I’m not sure if it is still carried in the Evansville/ SW Indiana markets or if he still broadcasts. But I would be willing to listen to a weekly podcast about IN HS football. The ability to listen at my convenience would be great. For those of us on Central time it was tough to hear about some of the EST games that would be well over before my drive home.

Mooresville Pioneers 7on7 tournament
oldtimeqb replied to Joe White's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
My mistake. Triton Central was at Colts 7. What’s next? Someone going to tell me Pike and Pike Central aren’t the same school too? -

Triton must have had a good Saturday. Didn’t they also have a team at the Colts 7-7? -
Mercy rule a few years
oldtimeqb replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I would much rather have a mercy rule than this: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/02/nyregion/football-coach-suspended-sportsmanship.html In this article, it mentions a rule in NY. If a team wins by 42+, the coach must explain to a review panel why a lopsided score could not be avoided. Yikes .
