  1. I couldn't figure out if he was forced to do too much by the Snider DL or if he was abondoning the pocket too soon. It was already midnight by the time I watched this one and I was tired. Snider's DL manhandled the Carroll OL all night on pass rushing. All of the scrambling and trying to make a play can't be sustained for 48 minutes. And you absolutely can't throw 2 pick sixes (to the same freaking player!!!) within the final minute of the first half. The fact that Carroll came back from that and nearly won the game shows how good they and their QB are. Regarding the original premise of the post, Carroll had a solid showing against HSE after a very sluggish start to the game and they took care of Warren Central the following week. Didn't we already know they can take on all comers in the 6A North?
  2. I love the DAC. I played in the DAC. Crown Point needs to worry about winning Sectional 1 first. Then they will be playing teams much similiar to them (size on lines, good QB play, talent at skill positions, quality coaching staff) in Regionals. I would like to see Buzea make another un at a Title, but I don't think the DAC and their OOC scheduling will have them prepared for what they would see from Penn or Carroll in Regionals. And then throw in the Hamilton County schools in a potential Semi-State game. Not saying Crown Point can't do it, but it's going to be a big up hill climb in which they won't have the same advantages they have against their DAC counterparts.
  3. Brownsburg vs. Fishers: What can you say? Brownsburg's offense was just too good for Fishers to handle. Hart has speedsters at the skill position and the WR heading to Minnesota is really good. Fishers will go into the playoffs with 2 or maybe 3 losses and still be a team that's capable of representing the North. Good win for Franklin Central. Have to win games like this to continue to move up the food chain in the HCC. Wow, back to back thrillers involving HSE. Great back and forth game with fantastic coaching and play calling. HSE's RB had the highlite of his life by breaking 2 tackles for what appeared to be the game winning TD with about 45 seconds left. Then, on their first play from scrimmage, Westfield runs a perfectly executed hook and ladder to get into the Red Zone. 2 plays later and they have the ball inside the 5 with enough time left to run one play, which turned into a jump ball at the GL that their RB grabbed as he was laying on the ground. Wild finish. Gilbert is one helluva coach. Possibly best in the HCC. I was at this one. I've been to all of Zionsville's games minus Franklin Central. Trying to be PC here, but I think Zionsville's OC and HC need to figure out how they have a 6'1 JR WR with NFL pedigree and offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Ole Miss, Pitt, Purdue, Wisconsin, etc. and you can only score 7 points against a defense that has given up a lot of points to every offense they've played that wasn't extremely inexperienced (Homestead). I've seen enough of Zionsville to see Hilton's involvement in the passing game seems to only be fly routes down the sideline. And as long as the ball is catchable he pretty much always out jumps or maneuvers around a DB to get the ball. He had a nice TD grab in double coverage on an underthrown ball that was called back due to a holding. IIRC Zionsville's only points were a TD catch from Hilton. I watched the way Brownsburg used Corey Smith (Minnesota) and HSE used Donovan Hamilton (multiple MAC offers) in their passing games last night and it leaves a lot to be desired out of Zionsville and the way they use Hilton in the passing game. Great win for Noblesville. They completely dominated this game.
  4. There's also been issues with Izzo's players in the past.
  5. Great point. I just went back and checked 2022 ACC QB stats. He was 15th in passing yards. Very odd choice for Ruhle to make.
  6. Fort Wayne Carroll NorthWood Beech Grove Merrillville Castle Hammond Central East Noble New Prairie Gibson Southern Brownstown Central Carroll (Flora)
  7. One team looked ready to play and the other looked like they screwed around in the pre-season, which is what the Bears did. Did not look prepared at all Coach Flus. And how about some downfield passes for Fields? Either Fields doesn’t have the confidence to throw ‘em, the Bears don’t trust him, or the play calling is inept. It’s one of the 3.
  8. That was a swift kick in the nuts. I’m still feeling positive with the direction the Bears are going with Warren and Poles and was expecting 1 more year of rebuilding. But, I was expecting Green Bay’s offense to take a step back with Love. Wasn’t the case today.
  9. Agreed on the matchups with the Catholic League Blue, DuPage Valley, West Suburan Silver and Southwest Suburban Blue . The problem with the Catholic League Blue though is they're notorious for backing out of home and home deals when it's their turn to travel. Loyola Academy did it to Cincinnati St. Xavier this year. But, the Catholic League Blue and some of the Western/SW Suburban teams are very good for the same reasons Cathedral and HCC teams are good. It's tough to schedule them though as they start a week later and a lot of the teams just schedule OOC against teams from other Chicagoland conferences. I've often wondered how East St. Louis can be so good at HS football when the town itself is a disaster and looks like Gary with neighborhoods completely abandoned. But, I've noticed once their players hit colleget their hometown is typically listed as St. Louis. I think they even got into trouble recently with the amount of "recruits" they were bringing in from St. Louis.
  10. I just hate the transitive property too much to consider it. Moeller just isn't clicking on all cylinders or they're struggling to find something that works. Maybe they found it against Center Grove or just found it for one game. Who knows. I would go: Ben Davis (giving them credit for the way they played against IMG) Center Grove Brownsburg HSE Fishers East Central Fort Wayne Snider Fort Wayne Carroll Biship Chatard Cathedral Notes: Crown Point looks really good. Top notch coaching staff. Good size. Multiple D1 recruits along with a D1 recruit at QB who is very mobile and can throw the ball around the field. I just don't trust them yet. They won't receive a true 6A level test until Regionals if they can get past Lafayette Jeff this year. Jeff shouldn't be much of a problem if the RB is out all year. The Mudscock game was phenomenal. I would love to see a rematch in Sectionals. Obviously it didn't work but I really liked Fishers' going for the 2 point conversion after HSE was clearly offsides on the XP attempt that was blocked. The workhorse Khobie Martin had been killing HSE running the ball and 2 yards seemed like a guarantee. Though there was nothing he could do. The big boy from HSE who smothered Martin in the backfield wasn't even blocked.
  11. I haven't seen Michigan State or Wisconsin this year. I'm going to go back and watch the Wisconsin/Wazzu game. I'm surprised Fickel and co. were dominated by Washington State. I did watch the Nebraska / Colorado game. Jeff Sims either has a massive case of the yips or Rhule made a mistake in pulling him out of the portal. He was awful against Minnesota and even worse yesterday with 1 INT and 2 lost fumbles.
  12. Brownsburg @Avon: Agreed. Potential for running clock in 2nd half HSE @ Fishers: I'm taking Fishers as well in a game that likely won't be decided until late in the 4th quarter The Mill @ Westfield: Agreed. Their D was non existant last week. Could be because Fishers has a dominating Offense, but I'll give Westfield enough credit to think they'll move the ball at ease as well. At least this year the Millers Offense is capable of abondoning the Power T and going spread when needed. But, Noblesville's game is to control the clock with the Power T and mix in the passing game. That doesn't work when the defense can't get stops. I'll take Westfield by 20. Zionsville @ FC: I was at Zionsville last week. Great game. Zionsville had a 3 point HT lead and extended the lead out to 13 until Westfield scored late in the 3rd quarter and then again in the 4th to take over. Zionsville is talented, tough, and will fight for 48 minutes. They were lucky to escape Pike and couldn't finish against Westfield. Franklin Central had Brownsburg on the ropes until Brownsburg delivered the knockout punch. You have to be able to close in the 4th quarter to be above .500 in the ultra competitive HCC. I'll take Jayson West and the home team getting the job done tonight. Another commendable Zionsville performance will end up falling short in a score similiar to your prediction.
  13. Fishers Bedford North Lawrence Bedford North Lawrence Greenfield-Central Brebeuf-Jesuit Fort Wayne Wayne Tri-West Heritage Knox Linton-Stockton Bremen
  14. I vote for the 1987 4A State Title game between Hobart and Jasper. I’d like to see Don Howell on the sidelines and very likely the most dominating defensive performance in a state Championship.
  15. Good call on Tracy. Sometimes it's just the simple things. Go back to what worked as opposed to what got stuffed at the LOS. Tiller lost his first game to Toledo and followed it up with a W against Notre Dame the following week. Let's hope for the same; however, I'm not very positive about this team coming out of Blacksburg with a W.
  16. Good call. I think that really good Safety from New Pal is starting for them. I know nothing about Walters outside of he's young and was considered an up and coming defensive mind while at Illinois. What type of D does he prefer to run?
  17. Urban, won't disagree. Saban though could have been a different script had he gotten what he wanted in Brees to the Dolphins.
  18. My initial observations from Week 1: FSU hit a HR in the transfer portal and looks legit. They have a nice path laid out in front of them to make the playoff Penn State's new QB is pretty damn good USC has a problem with their D which isn't good because.... The Pac 12 is going out on a high note. A lot of good offenses in that league Oregon Bo Nix >>>>>>>>>>>> Auburn Bo Nix LSU did not look like LSU to me on Sunday night. No run game and weak CB play. Drake Maye reminds me of Brees at Purdue in that he can throw a pick or 2 and still have a very solid performance. The 'Heels should be Top 10 by the end of the year I love the Colorado turnaround but I think they're still overhyped TCU is not a Top 25 team. Lost wayyyyy too much from last years team. I think they lost 16 starters. Even the highlites of the Minnesota/Nebraska game were ugly. I'll gladly welcome the addition of USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon to the BIg Ten.
  19. This!!! No way he can keep that pace all year.
  20. Agreed. And they're in a very good spot geography wise as they're right off of I-85 and a close drive away from Charlotte and Atlanta. Not to mention South Carolina has a history of pumping out NFL players that'll go to Clemson. Plus, the campus itself and Death Valley are appealing. As you temp said though, the ceiling isn't as high for Dabo when he doesn't have Elite coordinators or Watson, Higgins and Etienne.
  21. Have to give him credit. That was one of the most impressive performances I've seen. I don't thik recent 2 way players like Woodson or Bailiey or Gamble ever put on a performance like that. His INT near the goal line was even an unbelievable play. Baited the QB to throw a quick route and somehow managed to make up ground and get the INT. Throw in 11 catches for 119 yards on offense.
  22. What are your thoughts on rolling Card out on that play? Trying to run up middle again was atrocious. Pretty lacklaster performance by Harrell and the D, IMO. Agreed about Tedford. I had a feeling he would have a field day on the Purdue D. Credit to their QB for the throws he was making. He put on a great performance. @temptation Can't really disagree with your rankings after Week 1. Thought Illinois might be too high. It took a 4th down miracle play from their QB and WR for them to escape Toledo.
  23. Agreed. Coach Prime would put a D on his jersey. At this rate it appears the NFL is in his future. I'm looking forward to watching him. Sounds like a bigger version of East Chicago's Kawaan Short who ended up having a pretty good NFL career.
  24. Agreed on BD vs. CG. It's just conjecture at this point. I didn't think Penn looked 6A great against Valpo. Valpo's front 7 on D couldn't handle the the RPO and Penn burned them for some long runs. After the game I felt that Penn either looked like a dominate 5A team or just an above average 6A Team.
  25. No shame in getting thumped by DeMatha, but Springfield lost to Trotwood-Madison on Friday night. Weird year so far in Ohio Division 1. Outside of the drives in garbage time, the only time I though Moe's offense looked good against East Central was when the Michigan RB had some running room. He's legit. I think he tore East Central apart last year. Kudos to East Central's streaming crew. Top notch.
