Temp’s Top 25 (Week 4)
FastpacedO replied to temptation's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Can't argue any of them in the Top 20. Avon and Ben Davis will drop out. You never know with the Ben Davis vs Warren Central rivalry, but I think WC's defense is too good to lose this game. Mix in a young BD defense that is struggling and a BD offense that is a work in progress with a new OC I just don't see BD pulling the upset. The most intriguing games for Warren Central left are Lawrence North and Cathedral both WC home games. Brownsburg will get some better tests the next couple weeks with Fishers and Westfield. Big game this week between Westfield and HSE. Good job on your Top 25 the Top 6 could shuffle around any time. Brownsburg looks solid just tough to talk about their dominance because of what they have done in the tournament. Cold this be the year? They sure look solid so far. -
Cathedral at Bishop Chatard
FastpacedO replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
We are heading into week 5, I think Cathedrals QB has done a really good job. Has had excellent composure in the pocket. Distributes the ball very well. He has made a couple throws he would like to take back, but that is all part of the learning process. He does not force a lot and can be very accurate. I think he has done terrific even in some tough games and he is still has a high ceiling. Agreed on the Irish RB. With Bonds getting injured it has really accelerated his learning experience. With Bonds healthy he still gets carries, but with him out he is getting significant work load and will only go up from here. -
I heard you are top of it and ahead of the game! It is just pure speculation! I couldn't pass up the opportunity, on a serious note hope all is well.

Cathedral at Bishop Chatard
FastpacedO replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Well the game will be at Chatard so we don't have to worry about anybody needing to pat down @Lysander for wire snips. Only kidding should be another classic between the Irish and the Trojans. -
Cincinnati St. Xavier 35, Cathedral 31
FastpacedO replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Must have got dinged up in the Ben Davis game. Heard the Irish radio broadcasters say they were told he wasn't going to play against Brownsburg and he ended up starting that Friday night, but on Saturday when they resumed play he was not in pads. Then for the St. X game he was ruled out. I also heard them say their top returning O-lineman got injured before the season started. Here is to hoping they are done with the injury bug. -

Ben Davis has struggled defensively (they lost a lot to graduation) Offensively they will be okay they have a new OC this year and I think they are still figuring things out. They probably need to lean more to the run and set up the pass instead of the other way. Jury is still out on Carmel they played Westfield pretty tight. I don't necessarily call a 30-14 win for Brownsburg over Cathedral a waxing but a solid victory none the less. Brownsburg will beat a lot of teams on their schedule by more than 16 points. Brownsburg in my opinion right now is the top team in 6A because they are very good in all 3 phases (Offense, Defense, and Special Teams). The problem with Brownsburg has been the tournament, they had the perfect opportunity last year and squandered it. We will see how it all shakes out, but in all honesty Warren Central as great as their defense is has not seen a very good balanced offense yet and doesn't have an overwhelming Offense, so I am looking forward to seeing that Defense against a solid offense. Warren Central has some challenges ahead. Both Lawrence North and Lawrence Central can put up points. Lawrence North in my opinion will be the better competition for WC in my opinion. As for Cathedral they will be one of the more disciplined teams WC will play. WC and Cathedral will play in last week of the season so both teams should be well oiled machines by that time. As much as I don't want to (only because of their last couple of years production in the tournament) I right now believe Brownsburg is the best team in 6A. They don't have a lot of weakness, but they have to show in the post season the same as the regular season and they (coaches and players) know it and even talk about it.
-
This is only opinion, Ben Davis will go as their defense goes which has been a struggle. Offensively they probably need to be a lean a little more on the run. Price had 20 carries for 113 yards averaging 5.7 per carry, they threw 2 picks against Avon. They probably should be more run heavy and use the run to set up the pass, having Zachery can definitely be a weapon but it looks to be forced a lot. They need some big improvement up front defensively, they took some major hits defensively to graduation. Not sure how St. X will finish this year. They did lose a close one (17-13) to Lakota West and then beat Centerville. Calpreps has them just outside the Top 10 in the entire State at 13 and at #5 in Division 1 behind St. Ed's, Lakota West, Moeller, and Olentangy Liberty. Their starting QB is a noteworthy name in Kirk Herbstreit's son Chase (Ironically Kirk was a star QB at Centerville during his HS days). Chase had a decent game against Centerville. Cathedral and St. X clash this Friday, a lot of games vs Ohio this Friday.

Week #2 Scores
FastpacedO replied to Gridiron_Junkie's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Not all areas dealt with lightning. Those that did if it wasn’t competitive and there was long travel it was likely called final at half. Others that did finish today. -
Agreed Brownsburg looks well prepared for onside kicks. Brownsburg offensive line looks to be very impressive, their offense looks solid overall (aside from them tending to false start quite often they are fortunate it has not been called more). I figured this game would come down to whose defense played better. So far the more experienced Brownsburg’s defense has held up better, and Cathedral’s special teams hasn’t helped their defense out much giving short field on a couple possessions that lead to points.

USA Today Network media poll Week 2
FastpacedO replied to crimsonace1's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Please do elaborate? Where have I stated anything about a HCC bottom team taking a SAC team to overtime? SAC vs HCC match-ups thus far. Brownsburg 42 FW Dwenger 13, HSE 45 Carroll 21. I guess I don't understand how Avon HCC team that is not good at all and Laff Jeff NCC solid team has to do with HCC vs SAC. Better yet how it has to do with Avon being terrible the last few years. -

I haven't said anything about Lafayette Jeff not being a good team. They have consistently been solid. Not top tier in 6A, but very solid. They have a little ways to go to be in top tier of 6A as evidenced from their losses to Cathedral the last 2 years, but take nothing away from them they have been a solid 6A program. Their win over 41-28 win over Avon is not surprising and other than being a W not something to be boasted about because Avon is no where near being a Indy power the last few years. Avon is a combined 5-26 the last 3 years, in 2020 they were 5-5, they are 0-1 and very likely will be 0-7 before they possibly get the chance at a first win this season (Zionsville). It is extremely possible Avon could be 1-8 or 0-9 in the regular season this year. -

Avon is terrible. You can use Sagarin all you want. I am going by the product on the field. I don't care about 316 teams. I am talking 6A the Class IHSAA has placed Avon in. If you want to look at better rankings look at Calpreps. They have Avon at #23 (just above North Central who has been just as bad for even longer). That is 23 out of 32. That is right where Avon belongs right now. The teams that are behind them: North Central, Elkhart, Perry Meridian, Lake Central, Northrop, Portage, Southport, Jeffersonville, and Arsenal Tech. When you look at all 318 teams in the State of Indiana of course they will be above a bunch of them as they should be. Considering they are the 7th largest school in the State with 3,476 students they absolutely should be above many 1A, 2A, 3A and even 4A schools which adds up to over 2/3rds of the football playing schools. It is what it is. They should be much better than they are as the demographics of Avon is no different than Brownsburg. The towns neighbor each other and it is a 16 minute drive between the 2 schools and Ben Davis is a 18 minute drive from Avon. The fact remains they are not a good football team. Sorry if that burst your bubble and your thoughts on Lafayette Jeff, but Lafayette Jeff will have better competition from Harrison later in the year. -

Where in any of my posts have I mentioned Sagarin? To me Sagarin is flawed because we have teams that play out of state opponents not accounted for in Sagarin. -
That may be totally accurate I had thought since Broad Ripple had them Chatard could and maybe there were other reasons.
-
I don't know that Chatard had any ordinace on lighting to fight. Just across Kessler a few blocks North is the field of Champions of Broad Ripple High School. They had lights up at Broad Ripple. So the lights probably was a non-issue at Chatard. It was likely more of raising funds etc. since they are an Archdiocese High School, probably had a few more hoops to jump through. Neighborhood around Cathedral is a little different and Cathedral is up on the hill
-
Still does not negate the neighborhood surrounding Cathedral that has an ordinance for no lights on the field. Having a field on campus isn't the issue, building stands isn't an issue (though it would take some forward planning). The issue is logistics of parking up on the hill (very limited) and the neighborhood surrounding that does not want the disturbance with the lights etc.

2-8 and 2-9 speaks for itself (Avon's record the last 2 seasons). In 2019 they were 9-1 with their lone loss to Brownsburg in Sectionals 27-24. Astronomical difference in Avon 2019 and Avon 2022 and 2023. -

Yes, Absolutely we can say that Avon is terrible. Noblesville and their run heavy T-Formation offense by Coach Sharpe tends to hold the ball and consume a lot of clock. It is a unique offense that presents it's own challenge. Regardless Brownsburg has curb stomped their rival Avon the last couple of years 53-30 and 60-21. Noblesville losing to Brownsburg by 5 and Avon by 7 doesn't change how bad Avon has been especially with Noblesville and Coach Sharpe's T-Formation. It will not surprise me to see Avon lose their next 3 games by larger margins than to Laff Jeff (Ben Davis, HSE, and Brownsburg). -

No offense, but Avon has been terrible for 2-3 years now. They lost to 3-8 Pike in Sectionals round 1 (who got pummeled by Ben Davis 53-0 the next week). I mean I guess they scored a few points here and there, but they have been pounded into submission by the top HCC teams. They were in the bottom of the barrel of the HCC. I wouldn't exactly boast them as a good win, Avon has been on the struggle bus for a little bit now. -

1.) Absolutely not and they have not proven to be yet. 2.) Except Brownsburg, Cathedral, and Center Grove played Ben Davis on turf fields with no snowstorm or even rain. All 3 matched Ben Davis speed very well. Ben Davis 38 Crown Point 10 Ben Davis 37 Center Grove 34 in OT (speaks for itself) Ben Davis 27 Cathedral 24 (Cathedral drove down the field throwing an Int in the end-zone to end the game) Ben Davis 28 Brownsburg 25 (Brownsburg controlled most of the game) -

Really not much to base Crown Point off of. In 2021 CP lost to Merrillville 29-13 in Sectional Round 1, Merrillville went on to lose to Westfield 48-19 in Semi State. In 2022 CP lost to Lafayette Jeff in Sectionals Championship Laf Jeff lost to State Runner-up Carroll. 2023 CP beat Westfield in 2 OT then was beat soundly by Ben Davis. Having watched the games there is no way Brownsburg should have lost to Ben Davis as they were controlling that game. Both Cathedral and Center Grove gave Ben Davis very tight games. In my opinion had Crown Point played Brownsburg, Center Grove, or Cathedral instead of Ben Davis they would have been beaten soundly. That of course is my opinion. -

I would place Westfield or HSE above FW Snider or Crown Point in 6A North right now.
