    Welp...since no-one is talking....

The bAd boYz from the EiaC are headed west and looking to bury the water-boys on friday night.  There isn't enough "high quality H2O" and the Fonz isn't gonna draw up enough special plays to change the outcome.

I doubt it happens but here’s to hoping Jennings County advances to play East Central for the sectional championship. The Panthers have only played for a sectional championship one time and it was the fourth and final time they played East Central, a 35-0 shutout loss in 2000. The Trojans are 4-0 against the Panthers.

  2. This week’s games (week 11 - sectional semifinals):

Jeffersonville (0-9) at Columbus North (4-5)

Seymour (5-4) at Columbus East (3-6)

    Evansville North (6-3) at 5A #8/#9 Floyd Central (8-1)

    5A #10/NR Castle (6-3) at New Albany (2-7)

Jennings County (5-5) at Greenwood (5-5)

    4A #1 Evansville Reitz (10-0) at BNL (7-3)

    Notes:

-Jeffersonville leads the all-time series against Columbus North 9-6 but the Bull Dogs have won the last 3. Of the postseason meetings, North leads the series 4-2.

-This will be the seventh postseason meeting between Seymour and Columbus East. The Olympians have the advantage 4-2 and have won the last 3.

-Floyd Central leads the all-time series with Evansville North 3-2. Every game in this series has come in the postseason. The Huskies will be looking for back-to-back wins.

-Castle (who is ranked #10 in the media poll and not ranked in the coaches poll) leads the all-time series with New Albany 19-5 and will be looking to win their third straight against the Bulldogs. The Knights lead the postseason series 5-2 and have won the last 5.

-This is the first ever meeting between Jennings County and Greenwood.

-This will be the fifth meeting between Evansville Reitz and BNL and all of the games have come in the postseason. The Panthers lead the series 4-0 and have won every game by 14 points or more.

Washington would only bump up from 3A to 4A even if they got all of Clay’s students.

Whoops. Washington is a 4A school and would bump up to 5A if they got all of Clay’s students. However, that’s obviously highly unlikely.

Riley would likely need 500 or more of Clay’s students to bump up from 4A to 5A.

If Riley were to somehow get that many students, they would likely replace Fort Wayne North who has been shrinking lately. Of course, this is all contingent on whether the most recent trends hold or if some schools take on bigger growth/losses than expected.

It will be interesting to see where they send EC in 5A. EC seems to be moving to the next level under Meiners. EC would no doubt win 5A this year, not sure what next year holds for them.

With 5A being at 31 teams thanks to the last second move by the IHSAA of Fort Wayne Dwenger from 5A to 4A, it seems like East Central could be a simple addition. Just move McCutcheon and Harrison (WL) back to the north half and bring Anderson down to the south half to make it 16 and 16.

However, South Bend Clay getting closed down after this year makes things interesting. Back in April, the school corporation up there was planning on letting the families decide whether they wanted to send their approximately 778 kids to Adams, Riley, or Washington. Not sure if that’s still the case. Whatever the case, Adams taking on 150-200 students bumps them up from 5A to 6A and likely brings down Fort Wayne Northrop, Warsaw, or Jeffersonville. Riley would likely need 500 or more of Clay’s students to bump up from 4A to 5A. Washington would only bump up from 3A to 4A even if they got all of Clay’s students.

In other words, as easy as it seems it’ll be to predict how 5A is going to look, we still won’t have a good picture until the new enrollments come out in the spring.

I don't see FC winning a regional this year. But I like them to win their first one ever in the next 4 years. If these 7th to 9th grade teams are as good as the people around here are saying.

A regional title means they’re gonna have to go through East Central (who likely gets bumped up to 5A after this year) and the Bloomington schools or East Central and Whiteland/Franklin.

    Jennings County 46

    Edgewood 21

    Final

Branden Braun played only one half for Jennings County. He had 21 carries for 281 yards and 6 TDs. Edgewood couldn’t stop the run to save their life.

First postseason win for Jennings County in seven years.

Interesting history - the only sectional championship that JC has ever played in was 2000, finishing with a 6-6 record. Their head coach was Jerry Bland. Bland would go on to lead Edgewood from 2006-2016.

Loved Coach Bland. He was an assistant football coach, P.E. teacher, and a weightlifting teacher during my first three years at East. He was also my sprint coach at East on the track team. Absolutely hated when he left. Senior year of track wasn’t the same. The whole tone changed.

The IHSAA Spring bulletin has 4 pages describing the seeding process for track.  Pages 80-84 under the headline XVII. Seeding

You may have never heard it used in that manner before but technically it is correct.

Just out of curiosity, how long has this term been in use? It’ll be 17 years next May since I’ve been in high school. Not saying you are wrong or anything. If it was in use by the IHSAA at the time, I’m just surprised that the term wasn’t used by my team and coaches and that it was never used in any conversations I had with opponents or overheard when I participated.

True but aren’t there minimum times to qualify?

I'm pretty sure that track seeds individual events--giving preferential lane and heat assignments to the best times and field event marks. I'm pretty sure swimming does this, too. I don't think there's any way to seed teams, just individuals.

For sectionals, there used to be qualifying marks way back in the old days, but for the last 30 years or so, I believe schools have been allotted 2 individuals per event and 1 relay team, unless they had 3 or more individuals meet the state meet qualifying standard.

@Bullhorn99 is correct although I never heard the term “seeding” used to assign lanes. I guess it’s technically not incorrect because it is indeed a seeding of sorts. Just wasn’t a term that was used.
