There's always a team that pops up that nobody really talks about. I told them I remember our winamac team in 2013. Everyone (on here and around town) talked about it was either gonna be winamac, Eastern Hancock or Linton winning state... I even drove down to watch Linton and Sheridan play...at Sheridan...cause I thought Linton would be the team Winamac faces at state and Sheridan would be the Semi State opponent.. little did I know there was a 3rd team there that night watching both teams play and it was the team I should have been worried about.. the Tri Central Trojans. North Judson is good but Madison Grant is too! Both teams gotta get there first! Quote

Trojan67 Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 South Newton at Judson Nothing to see here. Another shut out. Judson 70 SN 0 South Central at Culver Not much to say about this game. Tossup game with the eventual fate of facing Judson. Culver 24 SC 18 Pioneer at Caston Caston has had a tough run and has done some really good things this season. They should be a really competitive team next year. Unfortunately, Pioneer takes this one. Pioneer 42 Caston 7 Taylor at Winamac Winamac should be happy for the progress they have made this year. I know there was a lot of uncertainty, but they really fought hard all season. Hopefully things will start picking up for them. I'm not sure what Taylor brings, but did see they upset Sheridan a few weeks back. Give me Winamac 28 Taylor 21. Blackhawk at North Miami Blackhawk may need to get some of North Miami's famous ham salad sandwiches for the long road back to Fort Wayne. NM 56 Blackhawk 0 Southwood at Triton Watched a couple of games of Southwood and noticed that they seemed to be a stingy team. Pretty young, just don't have enough athletes. Triton should be mentally prepared this week as it was evident that their minds were still on the situation of the events from earlier in the week. The good part is you can get a better deal on popcorn at Triton over those ham salad sandwiches they were advertising and selling at North Miami. Triton 49 Southwood 0 Quote

South Newton at North Judson: Ooof. 66-0 Jays South Central at Culver: Interesting result last week. Hopefully neither team is ready to turn in equipment quite yet! 27-20 Cavaliers Pioneer at Caston: Good foundation season for the Comets. Hopefully they can build on it next season! Pioneer rolls. 48-8 Panthers Taylor at Winamac: Going with the HNAC and the competition it's provided. Winamac builds off of last week's win. 2 is a streak! 35-18 Warriors Blackhawk Christian at North Miami: Quite the game last week in Denver. NM up 21-0 early 3rd before losing their edge and coming about 20 yards from blowing it completely. The (maybe/hopefully) rematch will be quite the battle! I know nothing about FWBC, but I think they're in trouble. 40-7 Warriors Southwood at Triton: Knights haven't had a year like this in a LONG time. Get the basketballs out on the way home. Side note, I like the HNAC top 5 over the TRC top 5 top to bottom this year. But I do think Southwood will be a little better than the bottom 2-3 of the HNAC. Boys of Bourbon comfortably. 41-6 Trojans 1 Quote

They SHOULD win easily, but they can't just cruise through this week. Quote

I think Pioneer, Triton, NM would all finish with same conference record as Northwestern if they played NW's TRC schedule. Saw them in a scrimmage this summer. They didn't blow me away. FinePrint Posted October 24, 2024 Author Posted October 24, 2024 South Newton at North Judson - The goal here is to execute cleanly out of the gate and stay healthy. This is one of those games the folks lobbying for a tournament qualifier system use to make their point. Blue Jays 63-0 South Central at Culver - A lot of big plays in last week's matchup. I think this week it will be more of a grind-it-out type of game. That suits Culver better and I think they take this one at home. Cavaliers 26-20 Pioneer at Caston - If Pioneer gets some guys back, this one will be decided early. I don't expect the Comets to hang around long. Running clock in the 4th. Panthers 42-7 Taylor at Winamac - This one should be a pretty good game. From their highlights, it appears that Taylor has some pretty good athletes. If Winamac can control the line, they can win this one. But I'm leaning toward the visitors in a pretty tight game. Titans 21-14 Southwood at Triton - Triton has to be pretty disappointed with last week's result. They struggled early and couldn't claw their way back. While I think this is the type of game some teams in Triton's position could take too lightly, I don't think the Trojans will fall into that trap. They'll come out focused and take control from the start. Triton 49-14 Blackhawk at North Miami - See South Newton / Judson game above. Warriors 54-0 Quote
hondo17 Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 (edited) Give Taylor a lot of credit. They played really well tonight. #12 was a stud, seemed he missed majority of the season and came back last week in the 2nd half. Winamac again was plagued by some penalties and turnovers... I remember atleast 3 maybe 4 turnovers. Biggest play of the game was in the 3rd Q down 6-21 near Taylor's end zone and a Taylor screen was dropped behind the line of scrimmage and no warrior jumped on it, a heady play by a Taylor player turned a would be touchdown for winamac to a big play for Taylor for a first down. Winamac finishes 4-5 on the season and returns majority of their squad, hopefully the kids can get a little taller, little heavier and stronger. I certainly enjoyed watching Talen Garner and Addison Allen the last 3 years. Glad Aiden Schooler came out last season and Reed Anderson this season. Triton 49 Southwood 0 What makes that Sheridan win even more impressive was Harris not playing in that game. I stand corrected, Harris played against Tri Central had a catch for 15 yards but didnt have a single carry. He was the big difference tonight in our game. He was involved in all their touchdowns tonight, probably the fastest kid Winamac has seen this year. They got other kids that were decent but he clearly won them the game tonight. Quote

If you ever have some spare time, this game is on the IHSAATV network. You will get a hoot out of watching the game. There was nothing impressive about either team other than maybe Sheridan's first drive. It was like neither team had ever played football in the rain before. I think the entire 3rd quarter was played between Taylor's end zone and their 20 yard line, all Sheridan got out of it was 2 points. Absolutely comical, definitely worth a watch. Quote
FinePrint Posted October 26, 2024 Author Posted October 26, 2024 On to week 2. I was a little surprised by the Pioneer Caston score. I expected the Panthers to run away with that one. Makes me wonder if they'll be able to give Carroll much resistance. Triton was focused and ready to play. Southwood's only score came on an 80 yard run against the JV defense. Granted, the Knights were playing with a freshman backup QB. But this was no contest from the opening kick. Should be much the same next week for the Trojans. All the other HNAC winners won easily. Culver must have played pretty well! Good for them. Quote

I considered it impressive because how many times has Taylor even beat Sheridan? I don't ever find kids playing football good, bad or ugly comical. It's 14-18 year old kids trying their best. That team just confused me completely. Winamac struggled with the speed of Taylor and it seems both teams had struggled w the injury bug and turnovers most of the year. I was just surprised at their North White and Blackhawk scores...maybe as I said previously that the turnover issues were big for them and maybe it kept them from beating those teams worse, I was told they had a bunch of turnovers vs Tri Central which kept that game close and lost them the Eastern game. hondo17 Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 (edited) As the Warriors season finished up last night, I have a lot of thoughts. I honestly came into this season thinking they weren't going to win a single game and I think with as many freshman and sophomores they played winning 4 games is a plus. They beat the teams they should have and lost to the ones they should have. First time since 1996 a freshman QB started game 1 and it's the 2nd time ever a freshman was a day 1 starter. I thought Xavier Adriano did a fine job, you see the potential there. I thought senior Aiden Schooler filled in admirably for couple games despite never playing QB in his life. Up front, oh boy. Talen Garner played his heart out all year. Senior Reed Anderson missed most of it as did Sophomore Lucas Perez and freshman Layne Tetzloff. Sophomore Cody Wheeler missed the last 3 weeks. Freshman Aaron Hardin and Alex Stonebraker started or played most of the year. Freshmen Hunter Haschel and Braxtyn Shidler got into the rotation later in the year. Kale Federer and Josh Crawford both juniors also started. I hope all nine come back, it's a nice mix skilled guys.. I thought Junior Ethan Burgess improved a bunch from last year. I thought senior Addison Allen had some nice games. Sophomore Louis Rugg missed a few games but had some nice catches. Sophomore Tearson Wolford ran hard and physical. Imo. He's definitely gonna crack the top 10 all time in rushing and tackles by the time he graduates barring anything. Sophomore Ivan Cardenas and Senior Aiden Schooler despite limited touches showed some physicality and speed. defensively Hard to replace Garner and Allen. I imagine Tearson Wolford will make another step, I'm hoping Sophomore Michael Shidler can slid into a role. He's got a nose for the ball and busts his butt out there. I liked what I saw the last 3 games from him...will be interesting to see how Hayden Taylor, Kalyn Runk and Josh Crawford do as seniors. I bet sophomore Jager Terry finds a way to get a role and I'm sure Louis Rugg will take a step. Kids have to be more physical and have to get stronger. As a fan, I see a 4-5, 5-4 record next year and are able to compete with Pioneer, North Miami, North Judson and Triton. I'm not sure they'll be able to beat those 4 but hopefully they can COMPETE. TightEndOpenAgain Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 North Judson @ Culver: Close game early only because it starts 0-0. NJSP early, often, around, and through. 62-6 Blue Jays Pioneer @ Carroll: If Pioneer is healthy and mistake free, we'll have ourselves a dogfight. If one or both of those isn't the case, Carroll will be too much. I'll roll with the Cougs 35-17 Southern Wells @ Three Towns: Raiders will reluctantly make the trek north and put up very little resistance. Rough several years for them...6-73 since the start of 2016. Game features schools with 2 of the best small school gyms north of Indy. I'll put the 1st half over/under at 48.5. 63-0 Trojans North Miami @ Fremont: North Miami better come off a 2 hour bus ride ready to play. Fremont's record might be a little deceiving as they've pounded teams the last couple of weeks. Were up 28-7 around halftime last week at Northfield before the Norse staged a late comeback attempt. NM has seen their fair share of seasons end in the far NE corner of the state in the last 30 years. I think the Warriors do enough in the battle of last year's baseball regional to get revenge. 35-20 Warriors Quote
Trojan67 Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 Judson at Culver Jays keep flying by. Judson 60 Cavs 0 Pioneer at Carroll I went back and watched Pioneer's and Carroll's games on IHSAA Network. I know Pioneer is very meticulous on running 3 plays consistently and constantly. At this point, there is no question that offense centers around Rans. Will it be a tough game for both teams? Absolutely! I just think Carroll has more depth and more weapons that it will utilize. Dont sleep on the Panthers though because will be a great game. Carroll 35 Pioneer 28 North Miami at Fremont This is another interesting game that I think people should not sleep on. Fremont has a decently tough schedule that I think is somewhat comparable to the HNAC. Making a 2 hour road trip is tough and stiffness will show. North Miami is tough and is moving on cylinders right now, but I think I am going to go with the upset. Fremont 24 North Miami 23 Southern Wells at Triton Triton should go into this game with the same mentality as last week. Run the ball. There is no question that Triton is looking ahead to next week, but they have to focus on this game first before they can even think about revenge or whoever they play next week. Triton 54 Southern Wells 0 Quote
FinePrint Posted October 31, 2024 Author Posted October 31, 2024 North Judson at Culver - Judson might get a bit of a game next week with LaVille, but this week is another glorified practice. Stay healthy. Blue Jays 62-6 Pioneer at Carroll - This is the most intriguing game of the week. I believe Carroll is as good as advertised, but Pioneer is always going to put up a fight. If the game were at the Pit I'd give the Panthers a bit more of a chance, but I think their 2024 season comes to an end this week. They'll be prepping for the 2025 season next week. And that should be a good one! Cougars 35-20 Southern Wells at Triton - Triton remains focused and won't have any trouble at all with the Raiders. Look for the running game to rack up some good numbers. Running clock in the second half again. Trojans 55-7 North Miami at Fremont - I don't think this will be much of a contest. Fremont is probably the 3rd best team in this sectional, but they're trailing the top two by a good margin. North Miami stays on track with a solid win. Warriors 35-14 Quote
