Coach Nowlin Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 really looking forward to taking in the Purdue Oregon game when the Ducks come to West Lafayette, so pumped, finally a real good west coast team, coming to Ross Ade, oh wait, its ALSO on a Friday Night, freaking b10 conference game.......😡 Quote
IndianaWrestlingGuy1 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 One could argue that IU played a high school team last Friday night. I'm not convinced one of Indiana high school's finest couldn't compete with Western Illinois. They were awful. Quote

Here are you and others throwing shade on individuals who choose to spend their Friday night entertainment dollars and time on something other then a high school football game, yet you claim to be a supporter of individual choice? Go to the high school games, and we all walk around with TVs in our pockets. Genuine question, I assumed you knew, and are aware of the hit local teams take when Big State U plays on Fridays so they can cash a national audience check. HS may only have four nights a season to make their nut, and greed is compromising that. Quote

If these schools are so desperate, I find it interesting that they allow online video streaming. Especially since I've been assured by my AD that I am absolutely NOT hurting them by streaming the games. 1 Quote

This, plus those mostly awful Thursday night games, which are now on Prime TV, you'd think the NFL would be losing a lot of it's audience. Which I find ironic that the NFL would make a viewing choice that they know excludes many from having access to their product. Doesn't seem to fit with their message I see on so many of their fields pertaining to inclusion.....perhaps its something else that is more important to the NFL?????? cloudofdust Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I would bet there were more in attendance after halftime for the Bloomington North and South home games than IU vs Western IL. Quote

Well, you seem to be concerned about attendance(money) to these games, so I naturally assumed that you would also follow that chain of thought and apply it to something else that "drives down attendance". Now the NFL is getting in the act. I suggest you join my merry band of pirates, screw the Big10, screw IU, screw TV, dare I say it screw….the man….there I said it. Go to a local school of your choosing tonight, plop down your 6-7 bucks, spend a 20 at the concession stand and enjoy the hell out of kids who just love a game! Who’s with me? …..que patriotic music I've *long* been opposed to Friday night NFL/NCAA games, because Fridays are for high schools, period. As an IU alum and longtime diehard, I almost never miss watching a game ... except when they play on Fridays, and I've spent too many Fridays listening to Don Fischer on my drive home from a HS game to count in the last few years (and I love listening to Don, but I prefer to do so on Saturday afternoons). But the reality of the world is, between ESPN's 37 channels and FS1 and especially the conference networks (BTN, SECN, ACCN), they need inventory and football is really the only major sport left that drives ratings. While ESPN and FS1 don't *really* need the inventory (they can show baseball or something else), the conference networks basically exist to televise football (and to a much lesser degree, men's basketball) and they have a LOT of filler programming. They want to maximize their football viewing windows, and Fridays are a good way to do that - add in an extra night to keep the sponsors happy and bring in viewers in a way televising field hockey or soccer or the 367,196th rerun of Campus Eats won't do. And HSFB gets screwed. One thing I really appreciated was the last time Purdue had a Friday night home game, realizing its impact on the local high schools, they offered the high schools the use of Ross-Ade and had a double/tripleheader there the next day, thus not forcing locals to make a choice and giving the players a pretty cool experience of playing in a college stadium on Saturday afternoon. I see Edgewood, BHSN & BHSS were all home last week. It would've been a cool gesture for IU to do the same. 1 Quote
