PHJIrish Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 The Irish get #1 for the sectional final. They are getting some injured players back, which may help. But it's a tall order to play the 6A #1 team in the sectional. It should be a dandy! Quote

PHJIrish Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 It's game day! The weather is really good for this time of the year. This game is the Game Of The Week on WNDY, Channel 23, for those who can't make it to LN . I hope to see a lot of Irish fans in the stands! Quote
BDGiant93 Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 I know you'll be at Brownsburg next week if the Bulldogs beat BD and you beat LN, but any intel on where the game might be held if somehow the Giants beat Brownsburg and the Irish beat LN as you should be hosting. Quote
Footballking16 Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Weird game. Sloppy game, one I’m sure both coaches will lose sleep over when they see the tape. LN won 24-7, surviving three first half INT’s. Cathedral threw a pick 6 near the end of the 2H and lost their QB shortly after to injury and that effectively ended the game. LN scored on a short field to start the 2H and then returned a fumble for a TD on the ensuing drive. Pretty darn impressive to win convincingly as they did given the amount of turnovers and penalties. They clean that up, they are the favorites going forward. Future is bright for Cathedral. Young team that returns a ton next year to go along with a freshman class that might be one of the best to come through when all said and done. 2 Quote
PHJIrish Posted November 9, 2024 Author Posted November 9, 2024 The Irish offense gave LN 14 points and only scored 7, a nice run by senior RB Jalen Bonds with about 20 seconds left in the game. The Irish defense only allowed 10 points but the game was basically over at halftime, even though LN was only up 7-0. Irish QB Cameron Koers left the game shortly before the end of the first half after throwing a pick six. I'm not so sure he wasn't injured earlier in the game because his throws were erratic much of the first half, which is unusual for him. The Irish had a very good season considering the youth on the team. They were beaten badly only twice this season, against Brownsburg and Lawrence North. They had two other last minute loses to Cincinnati St. Xavier and Warren Central. They finished 6-4 and at last Sagarin they had the 9th toughest schedule in the states, and that doesn't include the loss to St. X. I'm 81 years old but I sure hope I'm still able to get to the games next season to watch this team grow. The Irish freshman team was undefeated, and a lot of young players got a lot of experience this season at the varsity level. Hats off to the Wildcats! They can win it all! Their game next week will be a doozy against Brownsburg. 1 Quote

Great season for the Irish, though it didn't end as you expected. Now you have a "Wildcat team" to root for as they move forward. IHSAA FB has given us tonight a heck of a rest of the season to look forward to, IMO. Edited November 9, 2024 by Yuccaguy 1 Quote

Young team that returns a ton next year to go along with a freshman class that might be one of the best to come through when all said and done. Definitely not the way I had expected the game to go. If you were to tell me that Cathedral would have 3 Int's and held Lawrence North to 87 total yards in the first half I would think they would have a couple score lead. Instead it went into the half LN 7 Cathedral 0. Both defenses were playing very well and Offenses no so much, I would have expected the opposite. Lawrence North game plan defensively looked to utilize their speed and leave their DB's in man to man coverage while they brought the kitchen sink on every down. They decided to bring 9 and overwhelm the O-line if it was run or pass. I am baffled by 2 decisions in the game. On a 4th and short Cathedral lined up to go for a QB sneak, LN had 9 guys at the LOS but had 1 d-lineman in both A gaps. Would have been a good time to call a time out. The second was to open the second half they squib kicked it giving the plethora of LN athletes an opportunity to return a kick, The return man picked it up at the 13 and ran it across the 50 to about the 45 giving LN excellent field position. I know the Irish kicker can hit the endzone for Touchbacks. I would have thought they would force LN to go from the 20 with the way the Irish defense was playing (had 3 Int's at that point). For the most part the Irish bottled up Zay Moore they just could not get anything sustainable going offensively. Run game was inconsistent they would rip off 5-8 yard runs or lose 2-3 yards. LN is a beast with speed everywhere so they will be a tough out for anyone. You have to take advantage if you get 3 turnovers. Coach Mallory's son had quite a game with 1 Int for a TD and a Fumble Return for a TD. 6 hours ago, PHJIrish said: The Irish offense gave LN 14 points and only scored 7, a nice run by senior RB Jalen Bonds with about 20 seconds left in the game. Koers played extremely well in his first season at starting QB. He has a bright future at QB1 and so do the Irish with a ton of young players. I 100% hope you will be able to make every game next year too PHJIrish take good care of yourself! Quote
PHJIrish Posted November 9, 2024 Author Posted November 9, 2024 I'll try my best to hang around for another season. But things happen when you get my age. I'd really like to give a shout out to Jalon Bonds! He had such a great junior season, I was looking forward to having him in the lineup for his senior year. Unfortunately injuries cut most of his season short, but he gave us a glimpse of could have been last night. I hope his recruitment goes well as he's a special talent. Quote

The Irish basketball team should be very good this season too. I hope to see a lot of their games too. Cathedral earned 1 point last year and 0 points this season. That is not enough to stay in 6A so they drop down to 5A. 1 Quote

The rest of the indystar article As a reminder, the IHSAA made a couple of tweaks to the tournament success factor. A team must accumulate six points over a two-year period to move up a class (four points for state championship, three for semistate, two for regional and one for sectional). The threshold to stay “up” a class is now three points (it started out as three, then moved to two before going back). The biggest change is that points accumulated in a two-year window are now applied annually instead of in a specific two-year window, as it had been previously. But once that program is moved (as Cathedral football will be), it must stay in that class for two years. Quote

PHJIrish Posted November 12, 2024 Author Posted November 12, 2024 As I've stated many times around here, the Irish play wherever they're put. The Irish will have a much more experienced team next season. A lot of underclassmen had a chance to start and play a lot. And the freshman team was undefeated! I want to add that it was a chore just getting home last Friday night. The Binford Blvd./I465 entrance ramp has been closed for years now. I made the mistake of going in that direction to get onto I465 west and had to go north to get back in the right direction. I tried to get off at 96th St. but I was boxed in by many trucks trying to maneuver their way through the traffic. I was finally able to get off at 106th St. and get turned around into the right direction. I feel bad for those that have to use I69 at rush hour. It was a mess at 9:30, and I can imagine what it's like at 4 or 5 in the evening going north. Quote
