Crown Point at Westfield

Crown Point wears a beautiful red helmet, white jersey with great shoulder stripes, and red pants matching white stripes down the leg. They also have the ability to go red/white/white. Love the classic feel of their uniforms. My only complaint is that the triple stripe on the helmet doesn't match the double stripe on the shoulders and pants, but its still a great uniform set.

Westfield's gold helmets are some of the best in the state, and when it comes to home unis they have been wearing a couple different looks. They have gone gold/black/green a couple of times this year, but that's not really my favorite look for them.

My favorite home look for the Rocks is their gold/green/white combo.

I hope the Rocks go with this combo to provide a full Christmas in November vibe to the game.

Brownsburg at Center Grove

The Bulldogs have two main road looks, either going with a clean all white look, or white helmet, white jersey, black pants. The white out look is pretty nice but lacking in any sort of stripes or pops of color. The white/white/black look is a bit unbalanced imo, and would probably look better with purple pants, so I'm hoping they go with the all white.

Center Grove has two main home sets. The classic white helmet, red jersey, white pants looks maybe like an unintentional throwback to me, especially considering the black drop shadow on the numbers that is totally a 90's thing. The other set they roll with is white/black/black which looks okay, it just doesn't scream Center Grove to me.

Merrillville at Warsaw

On the road, the Merrillville Pirates wear either purple helmets with white jerseys, and then either white or purple pants. Personally I'm a fan of the purple/white/purple look as it has great balance, but the all whites are pretty clean. The purple shoulder caps add a nice splash of color as well.

On the other sideline, the boys of Bart Ball mostly roll out an all black home uni, but I think the Tigers look their best in orange pants. Nice shoulder stripes and black/orange has always been a hard combo to mess up.

Decatur Central at Bloomington South

The Decatur Central Hawks have an especially clean looking all white road set with gold numbers and a subtle gold stripe down the leg. Their helmet decals are no original but they are still really cool.

Bloomington South has a couple of combos they can reach for at home, but my personal favorite is the silver helmet, purple jersey, silver pants with purple stripes. They can also go silver lids with all purple uni.

Lots of purple in 6A and 5A this year.

Two of my observations so far:

*  For Westfield having "Rocks" on the helmet and "Shamrocks" on the jersey is bit redundant.  Pick one or the other.

* Why oh why do schools continue to add black or gray to their uniforms when neither is an official school color?  They think it makes them look "tougher"?  It's stupid.

East Noble at Mishawaka

The visiting Knights have a great road combo of blue helmets with yellow face masks, white jerseys and bright royal blue pants. Just a good color palate with kinda a basic execution. Hopefully they will add some sort of graphic to the lids at some point.

The Cavemen of Mishawaka have FOUR different home options. They gone white/maroon/maroon, white/maroon/white, white/grey/grey and white/grey/white. My favorite combo personally is the white/maroon/white, its the most balance imo.

Martinsville at New Pal

The Artesians have an interesting color combo, but so far the brownish-goldish-tanish pants have not found their way to the away kits, as it seems like they have been going red helmets/white jerseys/white pants on the road this year. Good look, good colors, nice stripes.

The New Pal Dragons have been going with their long-time white/red/red combo with the shiny red dragon decals on their helmets. A good look with good stripes as well. This match-up may end up looking like an intrasquad scrimmage.

Black for black sake isn't one of my favorite things, but I especially dislike it when they pair it with another dark color like Westfield's green. Not enough contrast in my opinion.

Batesville at Heritage Hills

The Bulldogs do their best Duke impression on the road, and that's not a bad thing. All white with royal blue stripes is a classic look.

The Heritage Hills Patriots have always reminded me of the late 90s early 2000s Buffalo Bills. They go red helmet, navy jersey, navy paints most of the time, but I've also seen them in red pants with the navy jersey and I really like the pop of color that it gives.

Garrett at Fort Wayne Luers

The road Railroaders go navy helmet, with all white everything else. I love Garrett's navy and maroon combo, and it makes for great striping. Pretty straightforward combo. You will notice a few of Garrett's players wearing guardian caps.

The Luers Knights have worn at least three different combos at home this year. All black everything with red trim, black helmets with all red uniform, and black helmets, with black jerseys over red pants. All three combos are great and work well with Luers' color scheme.

Sorry thanks for the clarification.

I'm in favor of anyone who has DARK NUMBERS on a WHITE JERSEY or WHITE/LIGHT numbers on a DARK jersey.

This should not be hard, but some teams make it very difficult.

So, the Westfield black/green sets, Center Grove's red-on-black, Mishawaka's maroon-on-gray and Decatur Central's gold-on-white uniforms need to be taken out back and used as bonfire kindling.

The NFHS requires "clearly contrasting numbers," but some teams still try to skirt the rule.

New Pal occasionally wears white pants with red jerseys, but it's usually for one early regular-season game. Other than that, it's usually all red or all white.

New Pal wore red pants with white jerseys in the 2015 State Finals, lost a crazy game and, to my recollection, has never worn that combo since (they *definitely* have not worn that combo in a tournament game since).

Chalk that up to superstition, I bet Coach Ralph has a few of them.

They're really two different worlds.

I think the only local team that has multiples is North - black, white & green.

Spoken like a true play by play guy, been there done that and the dark numbers on dark jerseys and light numbers on white jerseys will drive you nuts especially in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Adams Central at Andrean

The Flying Jets are another team that goes all white uniforms on the road, with red helmets on top. I know they have a pair of greyish/silverish pants in the closet somewhere, and they've worn those with both the home red top and the road white top in the past. The all whites look especially good this year.

Andrean's bright red and soft gold are one of my favorite color combos in the state, and their jerseys are among the best in the state imo. They've gone gone gold/red/gold this year, an upgrade of the gold/red/red of the past. I believe they could also go gold/red/white, which might be nice.

Linton at Indianapolis Lutheran

The Miners go red helmet, white jersey, red pants and it's a really good combo. They especially do a great job using that royal blue as a highlight color. Love the skinny block L logo as well.

The Saints have a very rich wine color jersey sandwiched between old gold helmets and pants. They have had maroon trousers in the past but I'm not sure if they have broken them out this year. Nice combo but would be better if they had a way of differentiating themselves from Brebeuf.

South Adams at North Judson

The Starfires have a great set of uniforms. Black helmets with jerseys and pants in white, yellow, and black. We could see black/white/white, black/white/yellow or black/white/black. So much for only 6A and 5A having a million uniform combos.

The North Judson Bluejays have a full set of beautiful champagne uniforms, they also have a set of all blues I believe, which fits their mascot name much better lol. Gold/blue/gold is probably an option as well.

South Putnam at Providence

The Eagles go white helmet with blue decal, white jersey and blue pants. Really a great look imo. I'm sure they could go white/white/white but they seem like one of the few teams to keep some color on the bottom in their aways.

The Providence Pioneers similarly only seemingly have one home set, that being white helmets with navy decals, blue jerseys with white and gold stripes, and white pants.

to respond to your second observation, I love traditional colors, but given their freedom of choice, I see no problem with black and/or gray. Its not about looking "tougher" its about choice of uniforms.  When I played in college we had multiple color variations and its just a fun way to mix it up before games.  to each their own.

I really love the red/blue/red. Any reason in particular that they'll wear the all blue? Are they honoring a particular team or moment by wearing all navy in big games?

Had that reversed. It was red over white in 2015. Snider wore white jerseys that night. Whatever the case, they've never worn that combo in a tournament game since.

Black is OK as long as the numbers are white or a *very* light color (not purple, green, et al).

Gray is bad, because almost no number is legible on it.

Use your school colors. If black and gray aren't your school colors, don't use them for a uniform.

Actually there was a team that did grey jersey a few years back and they had a florescent yellow number bordered with navy blue. They were very easy to make out. Generally though I agree with you. Not many colors that are easy to see on grey.
