This Central team might be the most unsportsmanlike team in a long time. I had heard from coaches and fans in prior weeks but thought "oh it's Central, that's just how they're known to be". But when you've heard it or seen it 5 weeks in a row, it starts to be substantiated. And as bad as it is, unfortunately it's difficult for referee crews to officiate games like that and maintain control.

The score of that game did surprise me when I saw it last Friday. Did Reitz have an off night or was it a slugfest of a game?

Seems like it was a mixture of penalties, injuries, and the elements. Central attacked their weaknesses. Spread them out, pressed their buttons, baited penalities, etc. The 2nd half after the delay went really quick. I think after their RB exited with an injury on a cheap shot, they played it very conservative and just tried to get out of there. Even heard when they tried to get out of there Central tried starting a fight after the handshakes which caused a big conglomerate. That rivalry still burns like a fire but it's just not pretty to sit by and watch anymore 🫣

Individual stats too if possible!

Unfortunately (time wise), I will not be able to do that since MaxPreps already does it. Plus some teams haven’t been making individual stats available.

Memorial has clinched the outright City Title and still leads the Conference. A win next week will clinch a share of the SIAC championship.

Memorial is going to have a difficult time in the tournament if they don’t figure out their offensive woes.

Excluding the “bye week” games against Harrison, Bosse, and Central, the offense has struggled in their past 2 competitive games (Mater Dei and Reitz).  It looked good to start the season in the first 2 games against Jasper and North.

I’m not sure they’d beat Jasper if they played again - maybe both of them.

Ben Johnson’s defense still looks excellent.  Grayson Carter has emerged as one of the best players in the conference.  And Brady Combs is starting to look like a Combs.

But they have to figure out a way to sustain more drives.  They can’t just count on occasional big plays and defensive TDs.

I thought Reitz did a pretty good job defensively last night. Since they have been tough against all the teams they have played so far. I was expecting a defensive slugfest last night, so I wasn’t too surprised about the score. It’s been trendy that teams have struggled against the Reitz defense even with their offensive struggles.

But I did think there was a couple of drives that should have ended with some points for Memorial.

Too many guys getting in the backfield and plugging gaps up the gut.

How does Castle and Evansville North compare to last season? Better, same, or worse?

IMO...

North is better than in 2024, mainly because of the new coach.

Castle lost some pretty good talent and is not as good as in 2024.

Who's the new coach?

Zach Mercer, he was previously their DC for the last couple of years. North currently has biggest trenches in the conference and got some speed in the backfield. They don’t throw much, but they love to run the ball. They also have one of the better defenses too.
