Castle should be lower, don't think they'll be receiving votes by the end of the season.

Reitz should be at #5 (after Chatard, HH, East Noble, and Mishawaka) and could end up even higher.

Memorial is probably top 5. To emphasize how loaded that sectional is, I think it will be Gibson Southern at 2, Mater Dei at 3, Memorial at 4, and Southridge at 8.

90% of pre-season HS rankings are bunk.  The only ones that mean anything are for teams that were good last year that return a lot of key players.

To your point about Castle…anybody who watched their scrimmage against Memorial would be pretty skeptical of them.  Granted, it’s a very limited sample size, it’s very early in the season, and coaches aren’t calling a game as they would in the season.  But, still, they didn’t look very sharp.

The only think as bunk as preseason rankings are presaon games.  The approach varies vastly program to program.

While I get what you’re saying, understand that we’ve played Castle in the scrimmage for quite a few years.  I’ve been to at least the last 8 or 9.  And Doug’s been their coach for roughly 20.  So I kind of have an idea what to expect.

I think it would be as wrong to say you can learn nothing about a team by watching those as it would to be definitive about how they’re going to be.

And I’m simply saying that Castle didn’t look as sharp as they normally do.  No more and no less.

@AW0352 From the PAC Wk. 1 thread re adding teams and splitting into divisions...

I would love to see a 12 school SIAC conference for several reasons. The biggest being taking away EVSC control of having 5 of the 9 schools.

The best 3 fits would be HH, GS and Boonville IMO. I think most SIAC schools play those 3 in almost every sort except football as is.

And that’s the reason I think it may never happen. Too much control at stake and egos can get involved.

Looks like we are back online! Any thoughts of the last 3 weeks?

The weather is the MVP at this point.

I'm pretty pleased with the Tigers so far. D looks solid (very strong in secondary). Brown has looked good at QB the first few weeks and isn't trying to do too much and has lot of weapons at the skill positions. The Jasper W in Wk. 1 is probably looking better at this point than I thought at the time. Beating Reitz was big for the JCats. North is a good team, but really struggled trying to throw the ball against us when they got down. Not sure what to make of Castle or Vincennes Lincoln yet.

As expected, Bosse, Harrison and Central are just not good. Central may be a little better, but not much. If we can handle business against MD, we'll get a little two week break to ramp up for the finishing stretch of Reitz, VL and Castle - with 2 of the 3 on the road.

This is a big game this week. Should be a fun one at Enlow. Tigers going for 10 in a row against the Wildcats and there should be a big crowd.

I agree about Memorial's victories over both Jasper and North.  I think both of those are pretty good football teams.

I talked to a longtime Reitz football fan (and alum) this weekend.  He went to the game in Jasper -- and said it was the last one he's going to.  He said something about some of the Reitz players getting into it with each other during the game?  I hadn't read anything about that.

Me neither. I tried to find a livestream or replay but didn't. I thought I saw that Reitz lost their RB in Wk. 2? Not entirely sure. They didn't adopt the #Discipline for nothing...

I was following the updates, and it looked like Reitz freshman RB got the start for the game and nearly ran for 200 yards. Sounded like it was slugfest last Friday in terms trying to score.

I don't get why Castle is ranked ahead of North when North won on Castle's homefield by double digits.

I'm guessing (not sure) it's because Castle was much higher ranked heading into the season, and most expected North to have transition pains this season. Official polls historically won't make drastic changes based on one game.

Just guessing because Castle beat ranked MD while North lost to ranked Memorial.  Voters didn’t realize North beat Castle just a week before?  Not saying I agree.  Head to head should always be a tie breaker in anything.

5A North losing to 3A Memorial is much different than 3A Mater Dei losing to 5A Castle. Not that any rankings matter. It gives the media something to talk about.

Was at the game, saw 1 incident of Reitz players pushing and yelling at each other. Looked like it resulted in a botched trick play where they ran into each other.

Now that Vincennes is leaving can we please go back to 7 PM start time for games involving everyone but Jasper?   Then when anyone plays Jasper it’s the 6:30/7:30 start time.

They will probably still leave it at 6:30 after this season.
