Hard to tell this early but still fun to consider. I would say Reitz will be top dog with a lot of starters coming back from a Regional team. Unfortunately for them they will most likely have to get past Heritage Hills in the sectional. Mater Dei should also be very solid with some good starters back and the top QB around. Maybe a top 3 team and a contender for that sectional (I think GS and Memorial could be a bit better). Memorial and Castle are always competitive even when they lose a lot. Memorial does return some good players but lose one of the best QBs in their history and the best ILB they’ve had in a long time. Not to mention a very good OL and WR. But you just can’t bet against Hurley and Johnson to have them playing good football regardless. Castle and North will both be question marks. Not sure how much talent they have coming up but both lose crucial starters. Vincennes* loses a lot but if they get that QB to play again they will be competitive. Not sure they will be in the SIAC though. Jasper will also be a question mark. Who will they get as a coach and will they change the scheme? You can usually count on them to be competitive though. Will any of Harrison, Central, and Bosse improve at all? Hard to tell. I think Central is the best bet to improve but would guess those teams will be the bottom three again. I could see the top 3 finishing in any order honestly. Shot in the dark at power rankings: 1. Reitz 2. Memorial 3. Mater Dei 4. Castle 5. North 6. Jasper 7. Vincennes* 8. Central 9. Bosse 10. Losing those two will be tough to replace, but I think Memorial has about 13-14 starters returning. Plus, playing at Enlow for 2/3rds of the regular season is major benefactor for the Tigers. Still too early to say about the Tigers, but the got a nice supporting cast of juniors returning for their final year. However, Reitz/Mater Dei appear to be heavy contenders for the SIAC Crown, Week 9 is going to be exciting! Quote

I was not necessarily surprised by the change, but that breaks up a relatively stable group of "experienced" coaches in the SIAC. 1. Goebel - 28 years 2. Hurt - 19 years 3. Hurley - 17 years 4. Salters - 8 years 5. Paridaen - 7 years 6. Lewis - 6 years (now open) 7. Brunson - 5 years 8. Sutton - 5 years 9. Mullen - 4 years 10. Artis - 2 years I want to say it will be a wide open conference race next year. But I have thought the same the last few years and the winner has been 9-0 every year since 2020. 1 Quote

Memorial and Castle will be up there, but loses some valuable players Offensively/Defensively. I think Jasper returns a good amount defensively, but takes some hits on the offensive side. Should be an interesting season ahead. Edited December 10, 2024 by TigerFan20 Quote
TigerFan20 Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 One question to ask is will the SIAC champion (since expansion) will go past sectionals? Only Central has done it in the 2020 Regional before losing to a game winning field goal to Mooresville. Since then, the undefeated SIAC champ has lost in: 2021- Jasper, First Round 2022- Reitz, Semifinal 2023- Reitz, Sectional Championship 2024- Memorial, Sectional Championship 1 Quote

It was interesting to see how many teams in the state games ran a version of flexbone/wing T. Way more than I would have guessed. Also noticed more teams ran a 3-4 than anything else. 1 Quote

Evansville50 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 If the rumors are true and VL is no longer in conference it's time for SIAC to follow the PAC and have Big and small conference alignment. Let's schedule a couple non conference games and make the season more interesting. Closed conference is not as fun for fans or players. Quote
tango Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Heard Coach Goebel had alluded to this being his last year earlier this season. I bet the current OC is the hire. Quote
Wildcat1992 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Cody Hess will have the tall task of replacing Goebel. Quote
