You get that.  I get that.  But when teams line up across from the Crimson Tide, it’s a big game.

Never really even saying they should have gotten in.  They had their chances.  Just speaking on behalf of blue blood programs bringing out the best in their opposition.

You have a point, absolutely. Hell, even Vegas would have Bama as the favorite over IU. Still not sure I'm buying it. I trust Cignetti at this point much more than I do DeBoer. 

I'm almost thinking to scale back to eight teams. Don't give a three loss team an opportunity to cry about not making it in. Every game counts just a little more.

Yep. Gillis took multiple shots......Saban was clearly pissed. 

I also heard Saban go on a soapbox about the future of the game. He mentioned that contracts need to replace scholarships.

Put non-compete clauses in those contracts requiring the player to sit out a season if he breaches the contract by going to another school. Transfer portal? There, fixed that for you.

It's still only one aspect to fix. They need to reign in the agent side of this. The NFL has very strict controls on agents, including limiting the percentage of a player's salary capping it at 3%. Stories are out about agents taking 20% of NIL money a player is getting. There are some where it is even more than that.

It will be 16 before it ever goes to 8.

Free market is great.  The athlete needs a better agent or go the Lamar Jackson route and represent yourself.

Just came to mind that Saban also said this is something out of the hands of the NCAA. It will take an act of congress to fix it, because every time the NCAA tries to do something, they get smacked in court. 

And after the lost income settlement the NCAA is dealing with, they cannot afford to keep going to court. It likely leads to a league setup like other pro sports leagues.

I guess I’m just more hopeful that people don’t need their hands held their entire life and have personal responsibility.

I think we’d all agree there can be a significant amount of variability in the manner of how young adults grow up and their current environments, which undoubtedly impact decision making. Not saying there shouldn’t be personal accountability, but I can understand how the short term gain may be felt as the best call at the time such decisions need to be made.

No experience to fall back on, but doesn’t it seem unlikely that a court would enforce an agreement that prevents a player from working—functionally—for anyone for a year, especially when there have to be a lot of underrepresented athletes out there.

Non-compete agreements are required to be reasonable in scope and length, but are generally enforceable otherwise. I would think a clause which prevents a player from competing for another P4 school for a year would pass muster.

Yeah, I just wasn’t sure if all of the P4 would be reasonable in scope. Might be an unexpected boon to the G5.

I am watching the hilarious Paul Finebaum Show now.  He and his minions are still whining about 'Bama being left out, but they don't have a lot to say ab out the inclusion of Tennessee and it's absolute sad showing.  I watch Finebaum when I want a laugh.  He provides hours of empty SEC babble.  I don't understand his lofty standing in the SEC world.  Oh and he has a true hatred, yes hatred for Notre Dame, along with almost any school north of the Mason/Dixon line.
